  • awesome breed!

Love ours, actually have a vid ill link as a response to this one!

Nothing stops them, in my vid Bonus the cairn terrier plays with a BIG wooden stick triple his size!

Running around in circles with ease!

  • I love cairn terriers :D easily my favourite breed of dog!

  • I do not know why, but the people at the shelter said that Yoda is a Cairn/westie mix. There is not a single trait of a westie in him whatsoever. Don't know why they said that

  • @theAlvinTran my dog's name is Yoda too! gotta love those ears

  • I adopted my cairn from a pound and they said she was spayed but 9 weeks later 6 puppies !!! (true story)

  • If Cairn Terriers and West Highland White Terriers are considered as two different breeds, than why can’t certain bloodlines of Dobermanns, who are less similar to one another than Cairns and Westies, be known as different breeds as well? Cairns and Westies only differ in color and tail structure, while different Dobie lines differ in coat, color, temperament, build, and more. Also, the only breed ever used for developing the Westie is the Cairn Terrier.

  • @DiamondRavenChannel

Kennel Club rules. They don't always make sense :D

  • @AlchemicalDavid Yeah, I'd also say that if Cairn Terriers and West Highland White Terriers are considered as two different breeds, than the many bloodlines of Dobermanns should also be split.

  • @DiamondRavenChannel

I don't know enough about Dobermans to make a sensible comment...not that that's ever stopped me :)

You make a good point. To be honest I can't stand KC stuff. They've managed to make some wonderful dogs into in-bred genetic monsters :( When I was a kid we had Westies...the skin problems were awful. That's why I went for this little monster (the little guy I use as an avatar on here) he's got a pedigree as long as my arm but he's still as natural as you can get :)

  • @AlchemicalDavid Yeah, I've got to agree with you about irresponsible show breeding. I stand for dogs as healthy working dogs with the best working temperaments.

  • Ive had two cairns. Both rescue dogs and both absolute sweethearts! Please consider adopting!

  • @hiknski

Well said. They can be hard work but they're worth it. Mine's going apeshit because someone's decided to set some fireworks off. He really doesn't like fireworks :(

  • I have a cairn terrier. They definitly are stubborn!

  • 1:06 That looks like a less scruffy version of my dog!!! <3

  • @RAVENakaR meaning that they still breed the original mix of all 3?? no i don't they haven't done that since they split them up, i'm sure there are people who still do but i breed Cairn's i don't know much about breeders for Westie's and Scotty's

  • @RAVENakaR the Westie, The Cairn and the Scotty use to be one dog, they were separated by color and size to differentiate certain traits they have, and yea Westie's can be born with colors, just like a Cairn can be born white or with white stripes, my dog Jovi is the first Cairn i've ever owned, given to me by a family friend he was born with a white stipe down his chest, thats why we named him "Blaze of Glory" and then Jovi for Bon Jovi :)

  • I have a Cairn x Staffy (?), his bigger then a normal Terrier but his awesome. Its the dark grey/black version and has all the love and cheekiness of the Cairn.

  • Walker 4 President!

  • My little fellow (little - he's 14 kg) is a wheaten Cairn - he's the most adorable little murderer I've ever met. He's too big to show but his bloodline is real....he has big bones LOL

  • usa

  • im moving and mymom wants me to give away my cairn terrier i need help finding a good home for him

  • @dominiricanmami2010 where do you live, UK or USA?

  • I rescued my guy and he changed my life. Never known a more loving animal... I have plenty of vids on my page if you are interested.

  • IF YOU WANT ONE

Cairns come in colours ranging from blond-red-brown-nearly black. If you don't mind a stubborn dog, they are extremely loyal and lovable, and great with kids. If you want them trained out of their disobedience, do it from puppy age, and KEEP DOING IT. They believe they are big dogs in small bodies!

THEIR FUR IS PARTICULARLY GOOD IF YOU ARE SOMEWHAT ALLERGIC. Their rough fur type doesn't moult much, but needs professional care - it's plucked, not cut - which is very important!!!

  • My Carin started going blind at the age of 6. At 9, he's pretty much completely blind, but hasn't slowed down. He still runs around, bumping into things and people... and even my other dog. He loves playing with my and my family, and when we aren't playing with him, he's growling at and rolling over all his toys. He's such a great dog; I am in love with Carin's thanks to him. I got a video of him on my page. He's a cutie.

  • actually, cairn terriers are far from obedient by nature, ofc you can train it to become obedient.

  • i have a cairn terrier called Sadie.

type in MY LITTLE DOGGIE SADIE.

and its the one with the boxers face on it.

if u look at it thanx so much! :D

  • That's a ugly ass dog lol

  • @aRandomTutorial IS NOT I have one and i think it's the best pet you can ever buy!!!

  • @101gabed cairn's are cuter

  • @aRandomTutorial i know, that's the kind of dog I have. Her name is cosmo. She's adorable!

  • My cairn terrier has jumped out of a moving vehicle 3 times, once at 70 mph. He attacked a pack of wild dogs (husky size) once and of course ended up in the hospital. He jumped out of a fishing boat once and almost drowned under the boat. He tries to bully dogs that pee in his territory, even if they are 10 times his size. I've never had a dog like him. He's fallen down the stairs a few times because he has arthritis now. Doesn't yelp, just gets up and keeps going. You can't stop a cairn.

  • @fatsomamacheese Mine hasn't gone through that much, but she's definitely a fighter! She's almost ten and I still roughhouse with her all the time.

  • @fatsomamacheese my carin dog got out of the house the other day and fought a pack of coyotes.we couldnt get to her in time, but i know she died fighting to her last breath.i really loved that dog.she just wanted to protect her family.

  • @gilleyandbrianshow Yeah, I was extremely fortunate that when my cairn went after the pack of wild dogs it was right in front of my house. I heard them barking excitedly and looked outside. That really sucks about your dog, but yeah, you know she went down swinging on her own terms. I read somewhere that cairns were bred to go into a badger hole and chase it out. Badgers, some of the most vicious little animals on the planet, and these dogs were bred to just be fearless like that.

  • @fatsomamacheese I have a cairn, and some coyotes behind the house, well, one less. Im a great shot.

  • Carin Rescue Groups get pure breed cairns-Col Potter Cairn Rescue and Cairn Rescue USA (CRUSA) are two national groups.

Pet stores DO get their dogs from puppy mills, as for a list of their breeders and you will be sad to see they are puppy mills from the MIDWEST. BJ

  • my carin is sooo good we can leave the door wide open and she wont move a inch she can walk without a leash there the best breed

  • anyone know a reason why my cairn terrier, is well uh.. stupid... he barks at everything, you cant have him off a leash when outside, or he will just run away, he chases cars, and barks at them, barks at reflections, barks at tin foil.. barks at a lawn mower weed wacker, motorcycle, bikes, and tall people.. basically anything that moves or is somewhat loud..

  • @redrider123463 Sounds like lack of training on your part - sorry.

  • @ mywings.... FYI Petland got busted for selling puppy mill dogs..you should seriously watch the undercover story that animal planet did...

  • We have two cairns in our home. We built a little "den" in the backyard for them to dig in. X3

  • It's Toto from the "Wizard of Oz" movie! ^__^

  • We have a cairn terrier, she's great! I love their shaggy coats.

  • Our Family just got a new Cairn Terrier, He is a wired black Hair Terrier, he's super loveable and very independent and fun, though at night he gets upset when he tries to sleep and growls and getting close to him at night he hates, we've only had him for a week now he's about 3 years old his name is toby. Any insight on disicpline? and training would be great! thanks

  • I have a cairn terrier mixed with a poodle...best.dog.ever.

  • My aunt had a Cairn. His name was Winston; we loved that little guy.

  • @TimGXR750

Let me guess your friends cairn didn't come from a show breed or professional breed. Cairns are wonderful dogs and I wouldn't have any other breed.

  • proud owner of a cairn terrier girl named jinx and also proud owner of a rescued cairn from Col. Potter Cairn Rescue named Fluke.

  • i have a carin terrier!!!!!!!! his name is Kirby Hamiliton! :D

  • I LOVE Cairn Terriers!! I Have two!! A five year old boy named Riggs, and a two year old girl named Zoey......there still my little babies!!! And I love then ever soooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • look for private breeders. people who show their dogs, because they are trying to do whats best for the breed and will have done all the appropriate testing that needs to be done.

google blair hill cairns, jp cairns, wolfpit cairs, all well known cairn breeders

  • should i get a girl one or boy cairn terrier

  • boys are more affectionate then girls

  • male tend to display greater intelligence and affection then females but females are a bit more "cay like" and independent then males they often rule other dogs in the household...but both males and females are loving, affectionate, outing and friendly..

  • A boy.

  • i love cairn terriers !!! i have a 3 year old called herbie ! shes the best xx

  • I love Cairn Terriers!! They are so cute!!

  • Loved the video and the comments. We have a Westie and a Cairn. The Cairn is only 9 months, but a real little "holy terrier". We have a lot of fun with them and would recommend terriers any day over the more placid (boring !) breeds ! Thanks.

  • My aunt used to have a Cairn; he was a really great dog.

  • Walker is too cute!!

  • i have a 4 year old carn taier his name is ace

  • my cairn archie is full of himself he can be very dominent, but the one thing he does give is pleasure to the family very protective and loveing, does not like birds, rabbits or mice will run after them all day long, will take your socks and burry them ,he is an expert digger so if you have a garden god help you but love him to bits

  • They are so smart. My cairn learns new trick very fast. He's a tough little guy, and he has a lot of personality. I love this breed.

  • me too!

  • cairn terriers are amazing pets i just love my 2 year old cairn terrier:)

  • This was Dorothy's dog, who accompanied her to Oz!

    You go, Toto!

  • My cairn missy-moo passed away at the age of 15 1year ago...she is missed

  • @ayieshastewart I bet she is, our fergus passed away at 14 and he was a little fighter. I'm sure Missy Moo was gorgeous! Cairns are the best. Would you ever get a new cairn? Or would that be heartbreaking?

  • i got a 8 year old carin hes my moms but she listens to me more then he does my mom i wish they would live to abour 25 years

  • i bet you do kathy he looks a very good dog

  • these are lovely dogs if trained, but beware they will dominate if allowed to.also they suffer with eye, skin and ear problems also diabetes,i lost my two cairns to diabetes so insurance is a must.

  • i have a 1 year old cairn terrier his name is scruffy love him to peaces

  • where can i buy 1 i live in arizona plz respond...

  • check all the sdtores in your city. (: pet stores*? or search for one in your nearby pet store. =D.

  • these dogs are very expensive it cost me 300 bucks so i would check online thats were i bought mine.

  • pet store?

don't support pet stores, they abuse animals.

  • @ jewish vegan

YAH, i dont. ]; so it's illegal to sell dogs in stores right?! poor dogs. then how am i supposed to get one? D: i mean like. how does the shelter thing work lol

  • @JewishVegan don't support leftist vegan jews - they abuse carrots!

  • @JewishVegan Not all pet stores "abuse" animals. Many pet stores, like petland, refuse to buy from puppy farms and buy from legit breeders and let their dogs out multiple times every day and feed them, water them, and clean their cages multiple times a day. Stores like Petsmart and Petco don't even have their own dogs and cats, they only have shelter animals. And if pet stores don't sell their animals, what do you think will happen to all those animals? They will almost certainly be put down.

  • @mywingsareyours There was a Petland near my old house and it was the absolute worst pet store I'd seen in my life. They let their dogs sleep in their own feces. Pet stores are bad.

  • @JewishVegan do you think they don't deserve to live because they come from a pet store? Don't just drop pet stores, because you're really punishing the animals more than the people. Pet stores still get money from their small animal livestock and their animal merchandise. The animals don't get shit. They just live the rest of their lives in cages because you don't want to buy them and "support a pet store". If you want to see change, be more pro-active. None of this passive-aggressive bs.

  • @JewishVegan if they abuse animals why would u want to keep the animals in them. wouldn't u want to get them out of them. the human society is a great place and take great care of there animals i would rather get the abused animals out first

  • @p4tryck95 I would rather put pet stores out of business and those involved in the trade of animals either in jail or at the end of my baseball bat.

  • @JewishVegan Not all but most do. Better to adopt or rescue :D They are jsut as loving

  • @JewishVegan Where would you suggest one gets their animals? Breeders? Although, my local pet store has a very inclusive anti-abuse policy: they NEVER accept puppies from puppy mills, preferring to get their dogs from breeders, they provide regular vet care to all dogs, they screen all potential owners for competency, and they are careful to regulate the number of animals they take in to reduce the risk of over crowding.

  • @th1nkman

you do realize all puppy mills call themselves "breeders"

no pet store would tell you they get their dogs from puppy mills XD

the fact is, a good breeder will only sell directly to a customer, not to a pet store where the dog could end up in anybody's hands

  • @JewishVegan you cant judge not all do i just went one today lookin and they had like five differant litters sooooooooo cute and kittens guinea pigs, rabbit mice birds and more they look after ther animals so wel

  • my mom got won two years before i was born

    his name was rasta

  • If you are thinking of getting a Cairn Terrier be prepared to be dilligent in training in the first year. I got one 8 months ago never having owned a terrier and found he was perfectly willing to take over the house unless I established myself as the top dog.(Good Training does this natuarally as they learn to respond to my commands) Now that I am top dog he is a joy but consitent mental stimulous is a must to keep these guys in check. This breed needs major exercise!

  • i have a 9 year old

    and i absolutely love her♥

  • woof!...xxx

  • Walker was my dog! He passed away last year at age 15. I miss him so much.

  • i love my cairn terr. Coco shes a 6 month old munchkin

  • My mother has one and he's 2 now. She had it since he was like 6 weeks old and he is spoiled rotten and lives a better life than most people. He is very ill tempered and can be very nasty. He has a very mean personality and somtimes growls at people he know's very well for no reason, as well as snaping at people. I love dogs but he can't keep acting this way or he will have to go. He does seem to be very intellegent.

  • ok..................................

  • Awesome little dog!

I hope to one in the near future.

  • i have a 3 year old one

  • i have one her name is pika looks like the one at 0:01 - 0:20 they are one of my fav dogs
