Ollie Fretter! No way! Back in high school, 16 years old we use to clean his yard and pool that backed up to lake forgot the name in Bloomfield Hills.
He had a really choice mansion on going to say Pine Lake? This is before hiring large landscape companies, just find some local kids to do the work.
Bill and the 1oclock movie ollie fredder, anyone remeber weekday mornings while gettin ready for school and Dr.Don who's voice I just heard at the end of this vid would play the casper, droopy, and popeye cartoons and how bout the afternoon munsters and 3 stooges lol come folks lets show our age
I was 11 when this aired and I am from Bay City so this wasn't a local channel for me. I remember watching it on Gerity Cable channel 6 way back then. I completely forgot about Ollie Fretter probably because only Highland Appliance made it this far North. Highland had the best low budget commercials, didn't they?! Thanks for posting this and bringing back happy things from waaaaaay back!
Remember the Midnight Madness sale for Highland Appliance? Only at Midnight!
I was 12 when this clip in the 7th grade, and was a true die hard TV kid. Loved Bill Kennedy at the Movies. Channel 50 ruled! Love watching the stooges, never got tired of it. Bugs was great after school (better than the 3 hour Saturday ones).
Iran still had our guys hostage then.. Dearborn had arabs then too, but now...it went from little Lebanon, to just Lebanon. It sux here..unless your middle eastern. *sigh*
Although only two years old when this originally aired I can remember a lot of things that happened in that time frame, and I'll just say this it was a hell of a lot better tie to be a kid/adult back then verses now. Of course Freder and Highland Apliance Stores are both out of business now. FYI, Bill Kennedy lived in Grosse Pointe not too far from my grand parents.
captian lightfoot, hey that's my last name for real lol. and i remember this all to well. i was a preteen during the time. channel 50 was my afternoon line-up
yep bill kenedy at 1 til 3 then bugs bunny the banana splits, i think yogi bear & the 3 stooges. in detroit on florence between 12th & log cabin after school i remember it well.
It's funny. I grew up in Detroit and watched her virtually every day and night for years, and I never knew until not so long ago that she was black. lol Also this was obviously from, like, March, because that's the only way the Tigers faced an NL team, as interleague play hadn't started yet.
Man, those news stories...I'd forgotten how much the world changed since my pre-teens, 30 long years ago. Thank God the Israelis and Palestinians finally worked out all their problems, and that pot was finally legalized!
Wow.. Born and bred in Detroit. Kennedy at the movies was my favorite. Amyre reading the news, the commercials, man, what a time. Chevy, you are right. In those days, things were different back in those days. we played out in streets, riding bikes and just did so much more than kids do today. Glad to see a young person appreciate what we had in those days..
I am 18 years old and I feel that I have been fucked. This part of time was a part that will never be duplicated. I love all the technology and all the things of today, but look at this.Stuff was so cheap the world was not as corrupt, and some of the greatest bands of all time where in there prime. It is not even comparable to the shithole of today. God I would do anything to go back to these times and live one year in this time period.
@ChevyManSS350 I was in college then (in Ann Arbor) and remember those Channel 50 programs very well. By the way I was driving a sharp '72 Skylark in '79. But don't feel bad--today is also "the good old days", we just don't know it yet ;)
I used to skip school to watch Bill Kennedy and Rita Bell back then. I was a big movie buff. I loved to here him tell stories of the people he met.
He once told a story about actor Jack Cassidy and Shirley Jones and less than a month later, I met Jack Cassidy, shook his hand at the Detroit Hotel Pontchartrain. He bring back great memories, I miss that time. (Extending my left arm out)
Someone needs a history lesson the country was all ready in a severe recession Regans tax cut crried us through the Clinton years when we started into another recession which was intern staved off by W and his tax cuts until out of control spending and the fanny mae mortgage mess got us where we are now
It might be an odd subreference, but Olly Fretter's uniform and schtick remind me of Howard Stern's Fartman.
