1. A lot of listening existing tracks and understanding the beat patterns
and for the software, vsts and midi controller , it needs a lot of experimenting - If you're going to self learn.
2. At this stage, the controllers, software and soundcard were around 600-700 euros
3. I could stay all day doing crappy sounds. but at the end of the day it was all madness ( I enjoy dirty sounds) so... a 10 for sure. I don't know how making any kinds of music should be under
I like it! I don't think it's boring. When your making music live, you tend to get sucked into it, and time becomes somewhat irrelevant. Or at least that's what happens to me. So taking that into account I think it varies a lot.
so if i plugged it into my computer and downloaded software(need recomendation for software i am new to all this) would the sound play through my pc speakers, which are connected to my sound card?
It's a controller, so it needs a software and it doesn't output any audio if used "standalone". and this applies to the pcr300 and the akai mpd24 (cause i don't know which one you were talking about. So everthing here comes out of the computer's soundcard. people, please understand midi controllers are just basically really advanced user interfaces. left alone, they don't do shit. it's just a tool. contact me for more info dude. thx
I like the sound! Not boring not a perverse conglomeration of sounds that make my head hurt! I use ableton as well and I am yet to really figure it out. If you have any advice let me know.
It IS boring (the only reason i leave this video here is to show off when i tell my friends... eheh ....)
but yeah, i'd rather see some comment like yours than a "sucks ballz" kind of comment.
If you start surfing on youtube and see one comment like that, it's fine, but then amongst hundreds you read only 2 comments written by intelligent people and those other crappy ones tend to become irritating and i can't help to react. But thanks Alanmntz, happy new year a bit late.
Very good work. If you don't mind a little friendly advise. more bass and a little shorter beginning . But other than that very good work. Maybe some vocals too.
Dude. that was awesome. Great jam! I'm only just getting into all this MIDI DJing stuff and it really inspires me seeing others playing. Gotta get me an Akai MPD. Cheers mate
thanks for the replies so far man, went out today and bought my pcr300, now...how the hell did u map it out to work with ableton? did you find an automap? or do u do everything manually? bahhh so lost
I never had any use for the automap thingy. The best thing with Live is you can put it in midi mode, turn a knob and it maps itself easily without changing a thing on the pcr. i personnaly started with the "control map" 0. I think it's the deafault pcr map when you turn it on. so you should now learn how to use Live correctly by watching tutorials or browsing the web for info. I don't think you really need to do any changes to the pcr for starters.
Then when you get familiar with how Live and the pcr work together, and if you get for example another midi controller or software you would have to make your own control map with the pcr editor to change the way pads work etc... but as i understand you're new to this, you should first play around with the onboard control map. you can still send me a message for a bigger problem because comments are quite limited for a good explaination :D have fun !!!
since this video i bought myself a laptop, and it's the one my bro is using. I've never seen a Sony Vaio in action, and anyway most recent sound card can give you quite decent latency with any software, as long as you use the proper driver.
The one i use, is Asio4All. google it and download it. Because some soundcards are not always Asio 2 "compatible". they often use directsound or drivers than can suck with software synthetisers. So buy it, use Asio4All. And play around with buffer sizes. 0ms latency is difficult to get i tell you. But you might be around 30ms and be fine.
If that doesn't do, don't blame it on the bcr nor on your laptop, blame it on the internal soundcard and get an external USB 2 soundcard (or firewire maybe).
hey man sounds great, im planning on buying the edirol, just one question, will it work with my Sony Vaio laptop? its the fw170D to be exact. I ask because ppl say you need a better sound card? n i got no clue what they mean, wondering if you can point me in the right direction cuz i see you use a laptop as well :)
The Effects comes from Ableton. With the Akai you control them. Your Akai MPK49 is an Master Keyboard and then you would be able to control Ableton Effects or some other Software like Reason :) Have fun.
and i cant get any knobs to work, or program them in...
and...
i dig the "play the drum line live thing", so i was wondering if you know how to or if you can program in the sounds into the pads that you want,. since any raw drumming starts in c#, or watever, thats like half of bank b and half bank c.
can you have all drumming pads on one bank? to jamm out
when you said C# i thought you wanted to program some software stuff.. wow. well i don't really know what you're trying to say. I just know you can get whatever sound on whichever pad you want as long as you use the correct software because the akai mpd by definition is a "controller" so it doesn't do anything by itself.
This is some good shit! Though you use only two elements it's great to have this running in the background, and even more fun to watch you play. Thanks for uploading! :)
Ya.. the pad gets boring.. but wow man I can imagine the fun you had.. I always have a lot of fun with I do live stuff.. but I'm using renoise.. so it's never serious and variated live stuff.. I gotta start Ableton.
Hey man, i understand you can fall asleep with that now :D
I don't know when i'm going to go back on YT, i've got plenty of stuff to do in my life, but i promess a more trashy video next time, i did some already, but probably not what you are looking for anyway.
Hardcore DNB? HAHAHA, WTF, U Mean Jump Up Or Tech Step? Hardcores For DJ fukin SLIPMAT. Fuk HardCore. Drum And Bass All Day Every Day. Nice Vid Man, Like The Drums, Automated Filters Are Don.
Its Called TECH! U Fukin Noob. I Bin Mixin For 10 years Boi, Played In Minitry, Brixton Mass, The Academy Etc. So U Shut The Fuk Up, Theres No Such Sub Genre As Hardcore DNB!
its obvious what he ment m8, Dont be so up your self like that. For all we know you could have rented those places out and played to yourself, it means nothing.
whatever its called, breakbeat, liquid, drum n bass, its sick as fuckkkk. i really like your still, and your repetitive riff that never seems to get old.
with two minutes you could have the intro, but then we need the explosion of the song, some fat bass, harder beats and you would have an awesome song.
ok thanks, you showed your ignorance in dnb, i know what the amen o a break beat is, you didn't understand that dnb is now in a period of no creativity, don't get me wrong, i'm not sayin that people who make dnb is not creative, i'm saying that these people is not showing nothing new!
I also have edirol 300 - bought used and quite up there - use it in conjuction with a KP3 and some circuit bent crap filtered thru the usual softwares (sonar, etc) - now, for the big question: how did you add the fan, in the background? Its happening, its happening...
careful with the Glitch VST, so easy to recognize... it's sooo good though. :)
yeah, it's a bit too long, you coulda added a big bass and keep it interesting all the way... you had enough material to keep me captivated for maybe three minutes... then, it gets boring, in my opinion.
sounds like late night DnB, maybe some jazzy rhodes chords/vocals could add a bit.
dont yah just love ableton live makes everything so easy than copy and pastin samples in cubase i only use cubase sx3 now for vocals nice tune though by the way peace
im happy for ur humor as well -- its all about sympathy! ur beat is cool. if you make random versions of it that are not so homogeneous, u can switch between them, then it would sound perfect! right now its shows u kno wat ur doin but ur lazy, kidda like me ahahahah
Quick 3 questions: 1. how long did it take you to learn the basics? 2. how much is the kit and software you use? 3. on a scale 1-10 how fun is it?

plutonium87 2 years ago
Hard to tell like that, you have to tell me what you tried already ...
- driver installed?
- have you done a custom map with the edirol map editor (i don't remember the exact name)... you don't need to but i'm just asking
- Do you plug it in BEFORE opening Live?
- check in the midi settings of live if Edirol PCR 1 or Edirol PCR 2 is listed (must be three of them anyway, 1 2 and midi in i think)...
strrrangemen 2 years ago
- if it is, turn on every switch next to the name except for Sync. so you have something like Edirol PCR 1 on off on .
- then try mapping your controls and stuff...
- if your problem involves clip triggering or something else you'll have to help me help you by telling me more :D

careful with the Glitch VST, so easy to recognize... it's sooo good though. :)
yeah, it's a bit too long, you coulda added a big bass and keep it interesting all the way... you had enough material to keep me captivated for maybe three minutes... then, it gets boring, in my opinion.
sounds like late night DnB, maybe some jazzy rhodes chords/vocals could add a bit.
good job.

o it's a mpd24... as far as i know the big diff is that this one is not a sampler by itself, it's only a midi controller

Pretty nice.
I'm doing something similar with a(n?) RM1X. Although, those glitchy effects are not part of the arsenal.
Booyah!

i apologize for wasting your time on this
strrrangemen 4 years ago
shit, apologizing on youtube is pathetic dude =P
im happy for ur humor as well -- its all about sympathy! ur beat is cool. if you make random versions of it that are not so homogeneous, u can switch between them, then it would sound perfect! right now its shows u kno wat ur doin but ur lazy, kidda like me ahahahah

i guess i went too fast. i didn't prepare any breaks or cool bass line, or effects. i was just too much excited about this new hardware!
in fact here i probably have only3 or 4 clips on Live... you should watch my second impro.
Thank you for the comment ^^
