@nemofsh That means there is no longer a program (or canidate) by that name available to install. I suggest updating to Ubuntu 10.10 for this is no longer a problem in 10.10. In 10.10 just use the "Software Center" ;-))
@Jugaxp My Grandmother did not understand, she was trying to click the buttons in the video...lol I ended up talking her through this process over the phone.
@TheDarkcloud2020, I assume amd"64" means you have a 64 bit computer & need a 64 bit version of Java. I don't think sun makes a driver for 64 bit if I am not mistaken. Most computers are only 32 bit, you have a computer with more processing power. With most drivers there is a 32 bit version & a 64 bit one.
@ineedtolvlup12 I don't think you are an Idiot, but I don't understand what is happening with your problem. What steps do you take before the computer shuts down?
@s1mdog, I am sorry I know nothing about RSPS, looks like a cool game. It appears you can make a lot of changes to the program, maybe it still has a lot of bugs....I found this...(Fatality 562 RSPS Client-Best ONE OUT THERE!!!! ) on youtube.
I am sure you saw it, sorry I could not have been more help to you..good luck with finding a solution
I got the same error when installing this in 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. The easy fix is goto Applications>*Ubuntu Software Center then type "Sun Java 6" & install the Sun Java 6.0 Plugin. Hope it works so you can see my other cool videos ;-)
*The "Ubuntu Software Center" is the old "Add & Remove Programs" place. (fancy!!)
If the video work, you are all set. The fact it did not come up just means you probably are reinstalling it & there is no need to agree on the terms again. So you are probably not missing anything. :)
Dude, You're my flippin savior. Seriously, I've been trying to get pogo up for my dad for two days. We are both relatively new to Ubuntu and this helped a lot. Thank you so much.
why make this difficult to new linux usrs, i mean its simple just follow direction but there so much of it, a simpler why is just type "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk" and it auto installs it for u, then all u need to do is get the plugin..... very simple and quick
Because if your system has some other things installed Java will not work. Some of these commands make sure you remove them if you might have them installed. :)
What it is telling you is that you were installing something before & it got stopped somehow (dpkg was interrupted) & you will not be able to install anything else until it finishes. What you need to do is open up your terminal & copy & paste (must manually run):
sudo dpkg --configure -a
then wait for it to finish even if you don't think it is doing anything, take a walk. Come back it should be done. Now you can install Sun Java 6. No problem :)
ugh im kinda new at this.. i typed it in and it installed.. but im not sure what to do next.... for example im tryin to install java so i can run programs like frostwire i was able to do it on my other computer but i have been messing around with the java on my playstation and i must have messed it up so now i cant install frostwire cuz of java settings and i cant set it to defaults
Is this Ubuntu (Linux) on a playstation 3? If so sun-java6-plugin will not work for you. They have made a open source java for PS3, so try icedtea6-plugin instead.
Code:
sudo aptitude install icedtea6-plugin
I have never installed Linux on a Playstation so let me know if this works.
well actually I have xubuntu 9.04 on my ps3. So I dont know if it is 64 bit or not. I just need to get java working. I tried downloading java from their website but when in the terminal after i do chmod a+x and the filename the ./ and filename it shows the user agreement and it shows this Do you agree to the above license terms? [yes or no]
Ubuntu on a playstation 3, wow I did not know you could do that. After a little research I found out that the Playstation needs an open source Java made for PS3, so try icedtea6-plug-in instead.
Code:
sudo aptitude install icedtea6-plugin
I have never installed Linux on a Playstation so let me know if this works.
If you are using Ubuntu 64-bit the flashplugin-nonfree is not in the repositories for you, because Adobe doesn't make a 64-bit version of the plugin. Gnash is available in a 64-bit version as well as a 32-bit version. It is the open source replacement for Adobe Flashplayer.
When i type in sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree it says Package flashplugin-nonfree is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package flashplugin-nonfree has no installation candidate
Was I supposed to install something before writing those commands in the terminal? Please help me ive been trying to get java working for a while now. Thank you!
I wrote the document for my grandmother with information found on the Internet (tried to make it as quick & easy as possible). The information from that document in "(more info)" under the description on this page.
I understand. Before you can install anything you must run this code in the terminal box:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
FYI: Why did this happen? You must have been installing something & the install was unable to finish. Like, say the computer was shut off before the install finished. The code above will finish the process, be patient (take a walk). When the terminal is done this should work for you, good luck.
Good point however, there is no real need for the video; the video simply walks you through the instructions located in "(more info)". So read info & follow the instructions :)
