  • @residentevilfan1223 ...I am sorry. What are you trying to say?

  • wat does it mean when it says no istallation canidate?

  • @nemofsh That means there is no longer a program (or canidate) by that name available to install. I suggest updating to Ubuntu 10.10 for this is no longer a problem in 10.10. In 10.10 just use the "Software Center" ;-))

  • This is not to be used in Ubuntu 10.10. In 10.10 just use the "Software Center" ;-))

  • is this a joke to make fun of us

  • thx u man ,,was useful

  • My grandma wouldn't understand a shit, but thanks because it helped me =)

  • @Jugaxp My Grandmother did not understand, she was trying to click the buttons in the video...lol I ended up talking her through this process over the phone.

  • Thanks for this, you've helped me quite a lot :)

  • i think i have a problem:michael@michael-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall -y sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

    Reading package lists... Done

    Building dependency tree

    Reading state information... Done

Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

is only available from another source

E: Package sun-java6-jre has no installation candidate

  • @TheDarkcloud2020, I assume amd"64" means you have a 64 bit computer & need a 64 bit version of Java. I don't think sun makes a driver for 64 bit if I am not mistaken. Most computers are only 32 bit, you have a computer with more processing power. With most drivers there is a 32 bit version & a 64 bit one.

  • @WoolyWarrior ok i need help i'm using a laptop mini and it won't let me download java i think it's the laptop. what do you think?

  • @ineedtolvlup12 i think your an idiot

  • @scribbles8675309 well i know im an idiot but the laptop can't download anything without the laptop shutting down and go hey wire

  • @ineedtolvlup12 I don't think you are an Idiot, but I don't understand what is happening with your problem. What steps do you take before the computer shuts down?

  • @WoolyWarrior well its to late the laptop got fried from the charger T^T

  • well i need help getting my RSPS client working look up rss and youll see if you can help that would be really helpful thanks.

  • @s1mdog, I am sorry I know nothing about RSPS, looks like a cool game. It appears you can make a lot of changes to the program, maybe it still has a lot of bugs....I found this...(Fatality 562 RSPS Client-Best ONE OUT THERE!!!! ) on youtube.

I am sure you saw it, sorry I could not have been more help to you..good luck with finding a solution

  • @s1mdog, look up "Java and Flash on Ubuntu Heron 64 bit Linux" here on youtube who says it can be done....again good luck!!!

  • @s1mdog ya i tried that before to a runescape private serveR? I couldn't portforward and the server run wouldn't work

  • I keep getting this...

    "

    Reading package lists... Done

    Building dependency tree

    Reading state information... Done

Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

  • I got the same error when installing this in 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx. The easy fix is goto Applications>*Ubuntu Software Center then type "Sun Java 6" & install the Sun Java 6.0 Plugin. Hope it works so you can see my other cool videos ;-)

*The "Ubuntu Software Center" is the old "Add & Remove Programs" place. (fancy!!)

  • =[ i never got the prompt page. am i missing something? i did all of what you did in the video!!!

  • If the video work, you are all set. The fact it did not come up just means you probably are reinstalling it & there is no need to agree on the terms again. So you are probably not missing anything. :)

  • Your grandma is using a fine operating system! :D

  • @ShodexTube ... XD Hell yes!!!

  • thanks so much dude this got mine working great. thumbs up dude

  • Dude, You're my flippin savior. Seriously, I've been trying to get pogo up for my dad for two days. We are both relatively new to Ubuntu and this helped a lot. Thank you so much.

  • This helped me a lot but I cant help wondering...

    Whats a Pogo???!!!

  • Pogo is just a on-line Java game ;)

  • @WoolyWarrior Hows your grandma by the way? :-)

  • She is doing great thax!!!

  • Thanks man, I was new to ubuntu and when i was looking at Javas instructions, they kept on giving me weird errors. But this worked. Thank you

  • @Ardefoc I knew it would need a sudo code... :D

  • wen i type in my password it says im not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.

  • hey its not working on ubuntu 9.10

  • Are you trying to install it on a Playstation? If you are you need a different version of Java for Ubuntu 9.10 on a Playstation.

  • why make this difficult to new linux usrs, i mean its simple just follow direction but there so much of it, a simpler why is just type "sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk" and it auto installs it for u, then all u need to do is get the plugin..... very simple and quick

  • Because if your system has some other things installed Java will not work. Some of these commands make sure you remove them if you might have them installed. :)

  • @WoolyWarrior oh ok

  • @WoolyWarrior why do u have 2 bars? make it one.

  • JDK FUCKING ERROR!!!!!!!!!!

  • @aiswat see my vid i have an easy way to install

  • finally done it :D thanks

  • will Java work on xubuntu?

  • It should with no problem ;-)

  • very good and easy guide thank you very much :D

  • You are very welcome!!!!

  • do u know how to install java 6 update 6

  • no sorry

  • WTF? it says removing then a load of programs !! is this meant to happen?

  • I am not sure what you are talking about

  • wen u do that auto remove thing it removed a hell load of programs!

  • i am completly new to unbuntu thank you for posting this vid p.s. this will also work on 9.10

  • as soon as i type the first code this appears

    sudo apt-get autoremove

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

  • What it is telling you is that you were installing something before & it got stopped somehow (dpkg was interrupted) & you will not be able to install anything else until it finishes. What you need to do is open up your terminal & copy & paste (must manually run):

    sudo dpkg --configure -a

then wait for it to finish even if you don't think it is doing anything, take a walk. Come back it should be done. Now you can install Sun Java 6. No problem :)

  • Hey wooly, thanks man, but i actually figured it out already a long time ago :) thanks anyways, appriciate it brother

  • Package sun-java6-jre is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

is only available from another source

E: Package sun-java6-jre has no installation candidate

  • ugh im kinda new at this.. i typed it in and it installed.. but im not sure what to do next.... for example im tryin to install java so i can run programs like frostwire i was able to do it on my other computer but i have been messing around with the java on my playstation and i must have messed it up so now i cant install frostwire cuz of java settings and i cant set it to defaults

  • THIS IS WHAT I GET, NOT WORKING 4 ME

    joshua@Playstation3:~$ sudo apt-get install --reinstall -y sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

    Reading package lists... Done

    Building dependency tree

    Reading state information... Done

    SOMEONE HELP!

  • Is this Ubuntu (Linux) on a playstation 3? If so sun-java6-plugin will not work for you. They have made a open source java for PS3, so try icedtea6-plugin instead.

    Code:

    sudo aptitude install icedtea6-plugin

I have never installed Linux on a Playstation so let me know if this works.

  • well actually I have xubuntu 9.04 on my ps3. So I dont know if it is 64 bit or not. I just need to get java working. I tried downloading java from their website but when in the terminal after i do chmod a+x and the filename the ./ and filename it shows the user agreement and it shows this Do you agree to the above license terms? [yes or no]

    yes

    Unpacking...

    Checksumming...

    Extracting...

    ./install.sfx.24007: 1: Syntax error: "(" unexpected

  • Ubuntu on a playstation 3, wow I did not know you could do that. After a little research I found out that the Playstation needs an open source Java made for PS3, so try icedtea6-plug-in instead.

    Code:

    sudo aptitude install icedtea6-plugin

I have never installed Linux on a Playstation so let me know if this works.

  • If you are using Ubuntu 64-bit the flashplugin-nonfree is not in the repositories for you, because Adobe doesn't make a 64-bit version of the plugin. Gnash is available in a 64-bit version as well as a 32-bit version. It is the open source replacement for Adobe Flashplayer.

  • When i type in sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree it says Package flashplugin-nonfree is not available, but is referred to by another package.

This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or

is only available from another source

E: Package flashplugin-nonfree has no installation candidate

Was I supposed to install something before writing those commands in the terminal? Please help me ive been trying to get java working for a while now. Thank you!

  • how did you get that document with all the stuff you need to run????

  • I wrote the document for my grandmother with information found on the Internet (tried to make it as quick & easy as possible). The information from that document in "(more info)" under the description on this page.

  • i did everything you said...when i put the code in and password this came up.

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

    what did i do wrong?

  • I understand. Before you can install anything you must run this code in the terminal box:

    sudo dpkg --configure -a

FYI: Why did this happen? You must have been installing something & the install was unable to finish. Like, say the computer was shut off before the install finished. The code above will finish the process, be patient (take a walk). When the terminal is done this should work for you, good luck.

  • nice howto tho it didnt work with me

  • Thank you. I wonder why this did not work? What happened with your install?

  • Thanks for the guide! It worked great! :)

  • Awesome!! Thax for the feed back!!!

  • you need java to view this video. GRRRREAAAT!!! i came here to check it out and i cant view this video.

  • Good point however, there is no real need for the video; the video simply walks you through the instructions located in "(more info)". So read info & follow the instructions :)

  • i dont have java and i am able to watch this video

  • cause flash player can run utube too

  • LOL grandma
