I have to wonder if this was in part influenced by a lot of theater chains and their policy trailers. I've seen some on here that also included the upbeat music. It's meant to get you pumped before a movie. :D
I remember HBO using the outer space intro all the way up to 2000 i think.. They should have kept it going.. I like this intro with the different ending sound.. That didn't last long.. HBO did also use different ending sounds for games, shows etc..
Wow! I have not seen this logo in over 2 decades. I am 27 yrs old and when I was younger if my parents wanted me to watch tv with them all they had to do was play this logo and I would run in to the living room and watch this. I don't know what it is but it is something about this HBO logo that still interests me. I guess it is one of the things that reminds me of the good old times.....
By the way check-out w w w, 80TOONS ,com for tons of oldschool cartoon videos online. Thanks....
I hear where you're commin from man. I'm 26, and I still remember seeing this logo like it wasn't too long ago. The 80s is a decade that will never be forgotten for it has marked the age of so many wonderful and innovative things that continue to influence many of us to this day.
Luckily, we had HBO when I was a kid, and I always remember that "R Rated" movies started after 8pm. Most of the time, mom and dad were either not home or oblivious to what I was watching. The stuff you had to sneak to see was mild by today's standards.
@stcml OMG Totally! When the guy's voice came on saying "the following movie is rated R" I'd turn the sound down so my parents couldn't hear it through the floor downstairs .. gawd!
There was an amazing amount of work that went into making this short intro. The results show it - the music sticks in your head for days. Bring it back HBO!!! The original score and video, not the retreads.
Wow, never heard that sting before the "Feature Presentation" part before. That was neat.

This is NOT SCARY. It's a little intimidating but it's far from scary.
