You are entitled to good customer service no matter what. I can't tell you how many selfish employees I run into who don't understand that it's their job to engage the customer first (smile, thank, etc.), and not the other way around. In fact, I often times purposely act neutral just to see if I will receive unconditional good customer service. There are lots of people out there who will only give really good service to people who already look happy and outgoing, and that's all wrong.
i dont agree the customer is always right cuz at times ppl are just crazy and i reserve the right to refuse service to anyone they didnt make that sign for no reason just off the way you talk though you have a rude tone maybe cuz your mad of the situation but if i would have said hello and you woulld have taalked to me with a tone like that i would just have a heads up on your attitude

In NC most of the japanese restuarants aren't even ran by japanese theirselves. Most are ran by Chinese people who are just in the business for money. (I work in establishments with chinese because my husband is chinese). The one thing about the businesses that the chinese run here is that SOME not all, don't care about customer service and the japanese resturant i worked in, all the chinese people never asked about customers days or sai hi, they just worked and talked to their chinese coworkers

When i cross the bridge i gotta pay $4 when i come to toll gate those people don't even speak or say thank you because in reality if i wanna cross i gotta pay. People have good and bad days you probally catched that person on a bad day. You don't care about that person day why should they care about yours.

I deal with ppl on a daily basis that think they dont have to speak english. I also deal with people on a daily basis that think that they are superior to us. I am in customer service and if I ever run across someone who has that same attitude as you, TRUST ME, I don't treat them any different than the people who come into my store that refuse to speak english to me. I feel that if you are going to a quick service store (fast foods,etc). You don't necessary need the people working there to be asking you how your day was or nothing of the sort; because like you said you don't care about how that person day went so why should they?

I think the point Jia was making is that when you're dealing with the public, it's rude not to speak AT ALL. 'hello can I help you' is not getting all in anyone's business.
'Thank you' is expected common courtesy. That's how it works when you deal with the public. If you're going to have an attitude with the people you deal and interact with, perhaps you don't need to be working in that establishment/store/etc.

Its sad actually. It seems like the vast majority of people in the service industry or service base positions lack the personality and temperament to work in that industry. To me thats the most important ingredient. I've run acoss so many workers that act as if they are doing you a favor. You've got to pull teeth for help. I was about 1 second away from telling off someone working the front desk at my college's admissions desk. His condescending tone and snarky look pissed me off.
Tipping is a good thing and I always tell my friends that you should leave a good tip especially when it's 5 or more at a table they tired asses start pulling out a dollar or two some pull out nothing which I find so crazy!! So what I did was I downloaded a tipping application to my Iphone so every time we go out and get good service I enforce the tip and pull out my trusty 3G and get to adding it up so that there is an even divide. Good cstmr srvc is hard to come by so when you get it tip well
Made a valid comment that you cannot stereotype a group of ppl/race based on one individuals behaviour which is very true. However as a black person in the UK I have experienced prejudice from indian and chinese ppl and received poor customer service and attitude simply because i'm black. I have had indian ppl in the past and present treating a white customer with more respect and when I was young some indian shop owners would serve a white customer first even when they came after me.

I feel you. I recently received some bad customer service at a Wendy's- the lady hands me some dead cold chicken go wraps and does not like the fact that I returned them for some hot wraps. I know there are veggies on the wrap but my chicken should be hot! I filed a complaint on her behind. I'm a laid back person but my Baby has made me a firm believer in filing a complaint if I receive bad service. Peace.

I have to agree with you. I always expected excellent customer service. When I dont, I make sure I let managers and supervisors know and I also let that person know. If it is your job to make me feel welcome and that you appreciate my business, that is what I expect to feel when I am at your business. It is just to much bullshit with people. LOL There's so much bad customer service it's ridiculous so when you get some that's good you really do want to tip the heck out of them! I went to Steak and Shake with a friend of mine and our waiter was fantastic and he did get almost 50% of the whole meal as a tip. He was worth it and more.

This is a common occurance in some of their establishments. Many Black People have complained about the lack of quality customer service in Korean, Japanese, or Chinese restaurants. I dont think they like black people as a whole. They see us as something to mooch off of. You know what we put up with some unnecessary stuff when we spend our money. My homegirl now has a habit of clocking her watch as soon as she sits down and places her order. If her food is late or not right she goes into mode. Last time I went to lunch with her we were at the Olive Garden near Cumberland Mall and before it was over we left with a free meal and $50 in gift cards.

Jia what you have realize people are unpredictable why did you let that situation bother you. Customer service people are there to do a job when another customer pisses them chances are they are not going to be nice to you, whenever i get rude service i realize i'm not the only person in the world.
In the future avoid that establishment. Remember personal or professional people are not give you respect that you deserve all the time.

I deal with ppl on a daily basis that think they dont have to speak english. I also deal with people on a daily basis that think that they are superior to us. I am in customer service and if I ever run across someone who has that same attitude as you, TRUST ME, I don't treat them any different than the people who come into my store that refuse to speak english to me. I don't owe you or them anything. If they respect me, then I will respect them right back. or vice versa.

I feel that if you are going to a quick service store (fast foods,etc). You don't necessary need the people working there to be asking you how your day was or nothing of the sort; because like you said you don't care about how that person day went so why should they?
All they need to do is ask how they can help you and say thank you at the end.

I think the point Jia was making is that when you're dealing with the public, it's rude not to speak AT ALL. 'hello can I help you' is not getting all in anyone's business.
'Thank you' is expected common courtesy. That's how it works when you deal with the public. If you're going to have an attitude with the people you deal and interact with, perhaps you don't need to be working in that establishment/store/etc.

Its sad actually. It seems like the vast majority of people in the service industry or service base positions lack the personality and temperament to work in that industry. To me thats the most important ingredient. I've run acoss so many workers that act as if they are doing you a favor. You've got to pull teeth for help. I was about 1 second away from telling off someone working the front desk at my college's admissions desk. His condescending tone and snarky look pissed me off.

Tipping is a good thing and I always tell my friends that you should leave a good tip especially when it's 5 or more at a table they tired asses start pulling out a dollar or two some pull out nothing which I find so crazy!! So what I did was I downloaded a tipping application to my Iphone so every time we go out and get good service I enforce the tip and pull out my trusty 3G and get to adding it up so that there is an even divide. However as a black person in the UK I have experienced prejudice from indian and chinese ppl and received poor customer service and attitude simply because i'm black. I most definately agree with this video Jia. Im not even a demanding person. All I want you 2 do is refill my drink in a timely manner & get my order correct. Ive been 2 resturants where I didnt get any refills. But its all good cause Imma use that tip and stop @ a convience store & buy myself a drink on the way home. And dont let me be really thirsty... I feel you. I recently received some bad customer service at a Wendy's- the lady hands me some dead cold chicken go wraps and does not like the fact that I returned them for some hot wraps. I know there are veggies on the wrap but my chicken should be hot! I filed a complaint on her behind. I have to agree with you. I always expected excellent customer service. When I dont, I make sure I let managers and supervisors know and I also let that person know. If it is your job to make me feel welcome and that you appreciate my business, that is what I expect to feel when I am at your business. It is just to much bullshit with people. LOL There's so much bad customer service it's ridiculous so when you get some that's good you really do want to tip the heck out of them! I went to Steak and Shake with a friend of mine and our waiter was fantastic and he did get almost 50% of the whole meal as a tip. He was worth it and more.

This is a common occurance in some of their establishments. Many Black People have complained about the lack of quality customer service in Korean, Japanese, or Chinese restaurants. I dont think they like black people as a whole. They see us as something to mooch off of. I have seen personally how they treat us coming in to their stores verses other ethnic groups patronizing their business.

You know what we put up with some unnecessary stuff when we spend our money. My homegirl now has a habit of clocking her watch as soon as she sits down and places her order. If her food is late or not right she goes into mode. Last time I went to lunch with her we were at the Olive Garden near Cumberland Mall and before it was over we left with a free meal and $50 in gift cards.

Here in Japan, there is a saying that pretty much translates to "The Customer is equivalent to a god". Customer service is PARAMOUNT here-even if the personnel act like they have issues! That same thing happened to me today when I went to a restaurant with my boyfriend. The waitress never said hello or anything, she never even smiled. I didn't even tip that bitch - and walked out right in front of her. She was so RUDE. I hope she watches this video.

I know one thing I can't stand is when you order food from the drive thru and they don't give you any napkins! I can see if I were inside,I'd get my own napkins! But what you want me to do wipe it on myself!That makes me so mad I could pull back around and wipe my hands on the person who prepared the bag!

I understand what you are talking about because I am the same way BUT my husband always reminds me that even when people are rude to you there is always something you should remember these people are handling your food they can put any and everything in your food and then you will not only leave the establishment unhappy you may leave with something extra in your food you have every right to be upset but sometimes you have to pick your battles. NOW after you have your food act a DAMN FOOL!!!
