Yes Steve is gorgeous, but I love Suzie understands she will get over him, she is a child and she needs to grow, thats why she went away. I also Love Annie she reminds me a lot of my mom, there is nothing she wouldn't do for her kids, but my moms a little more ambitious, like Lana's character....However My Aunt who has very ungrateful children is exactly like Annie, she's so sweet, so smart, and she struggles so much for her family.Im doing well I plan on takin care of her when successful enough
omg i love this scene its amazing.. both mom's created the imitation of life by playing roles that werent real annie wasnt her made and she wasnt rich and famous... but they say fake it to you make it but sometimes it comes around to bite you in the ass... these two young girls suffered so much pain how can annie ask her daughter to be black when shes sitting there rubbing this womens feet showing her inferiority everday its such a battle.. i love suzie
this movie brings tears to my eyes...i know sarah jane meant no harm and she just wanted to be accepted and poor annie all she ever did was love her daughter and wanted best for her and she died of a broken heart...how sad! this movie makes me appreciate my mother a whole lot better! black, white mexican, or whatever there's no love like a mother's love!
That was so sad. Annie still felt she was to blame when in nothing was truly her fault. I nearly cried when she said to tell Sarah Jane that she was sorry for being selfish and loving her too much. :'( If I had never known what true motherly love was, I'd have known it now from this tear-jerking scene.
this is so dad....her mother is dying and still making sure her daughter is taking care of after the way she's been treated. unconditional love ...a mother'a love!
Does anyone know if there every remade this movie or had it every became a Broadway play? I used this song for my audition song for America's Got Talent and wanted to use it for other auditions because it is a power song. Just asking! What is the reason you are watching this movie?
@taffyday123 This movie is actually a remake of the 1930's version. It's quite different. In the '30s version, her and Annie were partners. They made and sold a successful pancake mix or something.
Correction: Sarah Jane was the selfish one NOT Annie. She deliberately broke her own mother's heart in a pathetic desperate attempt to escape her black heritage!!!!
Annie was so bright, cheery, and beautiful in the beginning. Now look... All sick and stressed out because of her ungrateful, evil, HUSSIE of a daughter!!!!!!!! I always get so pissed at that damn child. So ignorant and selfish. As an African American female I get so pissed and so sad at the same time with this film. I sit with my arms crossed, angry, with tears coming down my face. I would NEVER treat my mother, or any other family members the way she did. One of my favorites.
@disneyismyheart247 it was only natural for sarah jane to act that way. she had to live with something that cause internal strife. It's easy for u to say all those things, but i doubt you've ever been any where near her place. and if u have u should know that it isn't easy at all.
@alguzman5 That's no excuse, whatsoever. Fredi Washington, who played Peola in the 1934 version of Imitation of life had pale white skin and she was a full blooded African American actress. She was a civil rights advocate and she never once try to pass as a white actress, even though she was encouraged to by her agent. She was hated by both whites and some African Americans but she didn't let that get in her way. She kept going. Unlike Sarah Jane's character, who is an ungrateful woman.
Ms. Juanita Moore gives a brilliant performance and was certainly robbed of an Oscar. If she was performing nowadays she would be a huge star. She has the most dramatic "death scene" of any movie I can think of. The only other movie with a death almost this sad would be when Melanie dies in "Gone With the Wind". By comparison, Ms. Moore comes across as very natural, whereas, Lana Turner's acting seems cheesy and kind of over-the-top.
This movie is fuc*** crazy...you got a black girl who thinks she's white, and hates her black mother. And a white girl who is in love with her mothers boyfriend!! THAT'S FUC*** UP!!
Thank you so very much for putting this up. My mother always told me about it and I never got the chance to watch it until now. And to top it all off my favorite gospel singer mahalia jackson she is truly a child of God.
did Anna ever go to the hospital or was this hospice?

Steve was my favorite character. Everyone else was disturbingly odd. That's the nicest way I can word that.

@alguzman5 I don't care. Yes, I understand people are different. I don't see why you're getting so worked up over this, this is a fictional story.
