  • cool hell but get a real camera man next time.

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of @kimiure_e at twitter)

  • Weller's End

  • nothing changes. we still have to be in the back.

  • Paul Weller is just a legend...<3

  • @MrJanesaddiction

I hope kids get into the mod scene a third time around, rather than nothing.

  • @ChrisHenniker I can see it happening already, me and the lads are bang into the kinks, the jam, the who, everything! Give it a couple years everyone will be into it!

  • No one could ever come close to Curtis, Paul is a good musician in his own right, but Respect for a Tribute to the Great man & his music.

  • horrible cover all loud, crass and washhy. curtis is teh only guy who should be playing this!!!!

  • MrHandsinpocketgroover...Not much credibility coming from a whinny sounding, hooded, baby faced wanker. You wouldn't recognize balls if they were dangling in your face. (Or maybe you do).... ;-D

  • Ace video Thanks. KTF

  • Awesome cover!!!

  • As a Yank it's cool to see a great UK band like The Jam cover a great song by an American soul legend Curtis Mayfield!!!! I like The Jam's songs but Curtis Mayfiled's version is the best of course!!!!

  • Paul Weller owns! This English man has real soul! Long live the The Jam!

  • why we always stand in the back?

  • @pbrick6301 haha

  • very cool

  • very interesting to see weller at the very beginning of his "soul period."

  • It's a great version of a most wonderful song and they did it in the style that fits The Jam. That's ultimately more interesting than a straight up 'tracing paper' copy.

  • Never knew this song could jam so hard, terrific rock interpretation.

  • nice cover but in the end just a cover, curtis' greatness cant be reached!

  • The original is perfect, but why not, it sounded SHIT HOT!! Obviously not Weller fans do yourselves a favour, listen to his back catalogue and then comment!!!

  • @wellerp66 Can you tell me something about this band. I like this cover, but I don't think I remember this group. Thank goodness for the Internet--I'm getting a real Music Appreciation class.

  • @scribe56 get all mod cons and sound affects by the jam- both great albums- paul weller the singer/guitarist has become one of the most charted uk artists in history in the uk even to this day in his 50s his albums chart well into the top ten

  • whyuyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!??? the original is already perfect and they ruin it.

  • @mjjcng8958 you should look for the tube live version of this cover where wellers vocals are lot more soulful. It still may not be Curtis Mayfield, but I doubt this cover would exist if he didnt love the orignal.

  • Comment removed

  • fuck yeah.

  • the only blackness-soul in this cover is the two trumpets player in the back and the rest is white interpretation.....

no thats a joke u stupidos....i really love your playing. you well know how to rock it!!

  • Curtis got the spirituality and mournfulness out of this song and Weller got the anger and energy. It doesn't hurt the song any to have two great and very different versions-- that's part of how you know that they're great songs.

  • look how some imbecile idiot attempted to type out the lyrics of this song while the singer was singing. message to the idiot: you arent a very good typer.

    what a jerk.

go ruin some other video imbecile.

  • @pbrick6301 they're subtitles !

  • they nailed this...really did

  • fuck curtiss it's the jam...man!

  • It's amazing how lifelike those Robots playing the brass are! Give 'em their fucking money and let' em leave. Bored, soulless Wankers.

  • Holy shit....they totally tear it up in the best possible way.....am so glad i found this......it's not the Curtis Mayfield sound because it's The Jam and they totally play it with all the conviction and heart that Mayfield gave to his version. Very hard to pull off and they totally do. AWESoME!!

  • this was one hell of a cover- it's pretty fuckin hard to own a Curtis Mayfield song and they did it

  • Kick Ass Jam!!!

  • yes it s not the curtis mayfield sound......;-( but nice....

  • There was a better version of this on a Uk tv programme, maybe The Tube. Where it gone?

  • Excellent cover!

  • To the anal-retentive "purist" haters here: Get an enema and LIGHTEN UP! You guys must have some seriously tight sphincters. This fu**in' rocks! I like Curtis a lot, too, but this is a perfectly good way to perform the song. Curtis had a limited voice, or he might've sung it with more volume and authority, too. This takes a great song and picks up the pace, with great horns and the bass is superior to the original. And to say no one else can/should cover Mayfield or JB is mindless idol worship.

  • Der Held meiner Jugend....

  • Class song, nice cover.Glasgow Rangers Champions don't none of ya'll for get it.

  • They are good...but certain bands just cant be covered...and Curtis is one of them. You cant do this song justice without those laid back funk rootes planted in 70s black america....and in people like Curtis or for another example James Brown.....they way they did the songs was far more important than if the music was played to perfection and a singer hit everynote perfectly...u cant fake soul. On the other hand..respect to this band and if their fans like the song..KEEP PLAYIN IT.

  • @bboyillscience Just "Good" ? .... An amazingly great tribute and cover to one of Paul Weller's influences. Can you honestly say you weren't impressed by their energy and wowed by this version performed by a "white British " band. Funk, Smunk......This band's soul and "funk" may be another color but just as relevant.

  • @viewmore100 uhhhh..I said they are good. Funk..smunk....lol. Everycover I ever heard of move on up has never moved me like the original. This is my OPINION of course heavily influenced because I'm a dancer. I respect your opinion...but your coming at me like I said they suck or something. Their color has nothing to do with it...I'm just saying that sound influenced by 60s-70s "black" america just made u move. I said I respect this band...I just like the percussion of the original better-peace

  • @bboyillscience Cool.... Peace out :-)

  • An original and righteous cover that did Curtis proud. Perfect blend of punk with funk. Those two horn-players barely move--love it.

  • now thats how you cover a song.............

  • fucking excellent!!! Bass in this is perfect!!!!

  • they don't call 'em The Jam for nothin'!

  • GIMMIE ME MORE. X

  • Mr. Bruce Foxton ....tearing his fuckin' fingers off! Too cool ...

  • this is sweet! :)

  • WOOO !

  • Very great!!!

    Thanks a lot!

  • Pretty nimble bass from Foxton on this one for sure. With only one guitarist playing chords the whole way, it surely opens it up for a bassist to go free like that.

  • yeah, Bruce is going for it here

  • Now I finaly get the style council

  • @nudgola74 naah, i guess that well never understand the style council... hahaha weird weller

  • FANTASTICCCCCCCCC!!!

  • telika pano einai polu kalo!

  • Take that Curtis!!!!

  • Love this cover! One of the best ever.

  • @McGinger58 The best version is imho the live one found on the 4 track 45 that came with the double album greatest hits in about 85/86

  • he moves like kermit the frog 48 secs lol

  • Always loved Curtis Mayfield (RIP), but never heard Paul Weller do this cover version. Fab. Ta muchly for posting.

  • it's the jam

  • you should listen to the jams studio recording of this it is quite amazing

  • Thanks for the heads-up, shall def have a looksee. jax.

  • Y'all need a percussionist...

  • the bassline is dope

  • Is that Franck Ribery?

  • yes, yes it is...not only is he a good football player but an excellent guitarist

  • It doesn't even like like Eddie Vedder, this most have been when he was younger.

  • i cant stop watching this

  • not just anyone can cover the great Curtis Mayfield and IMO the Jam did a great job here. Choice cover here.

  • Class!.....The best cover Paul Weller EVER did.

  • shit eh.. dont know bout this. not a fan

  • how to make a soul classic ur own.

  • This Is A Real Solid Cover!!! One Of The Best I've Heard In A Long Time!!!

  • Awesome, love hearing it again and again.

Great cover, it stands out. themusicdr makes the mistake to compare to original (see below). They are far too different to be compared and obviouslt Weller and Jam do honour Mayfield by creating a different version and not a cheesy rip off. Fucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Amazing. Thanks for posting this, it gives me shivers listening to it.

  • kanye raped this

  • yes he did :(

  • Great Song, Great Cover.

  • nice but not near curtis!

  • @themusicdr

differnt than curtis as it should be ...he made it own...and it works really well

  • @numberwang2020 yes i agrre i dont dislike this just prefer the original verrsion

  • the bass is crisp, f**kin great band.

  • thank you aceface ... very good post ! ;O)

one of my beloved of JAM

    greetings from rome@italy

  • I wasn't expecting the vocals to be so original and well fitting. This is inspiring and cool...

  • o shit i had no idea the jam did this. SWEET

  • Never thought to hear a cover of this Mayfield song that could hold it's own. respect to Weller and the Jam (great band)

  • Never thought that cover versions are half as good as the originals, but this one comes very close to beating the curtis mayfield version!

  • Fucking Love it!

  • awesome

  • I would love to have heard The Jam do this with Curtis. That would have rocked! :-)

  • uber cool in '82!

  • wow, i never thought id find a good cover of move on up, but here it is

  • 'skal nak forsta dig'.. dont you just love the subtitles

    Great vid

  • Really the shit!!

  • GREAT song, GREAT cover-performance, GREAT band.

  • Saw them play this live at the Micheal Sobell centre nr Finsbury Park in the early eighties. The horn section had a french horn which added a beautiful 3rd voice to the arrangement. Pure gold.

  • Your the Daddy...... Respect big time!

  • Remember your dreams are only schemes, so keep on pushing....

I've always prefered Weller's version but then I would :)

  • Love this! thanks!

  • he puts the horn in horny!

  • W/a name like The Jam it's got be good jam... This is THIS is the modern world's got so much soul it can't help but keep on wishing, pushing, to keep on keepin on... Take a tip: take a trip. Look out world, we're getting over under sideways down & we shall overcome, w/horns belting & hearts melting & dancing in the street to the beat surrender...

  • ...the dogs knackers...many thanks indeed!!!

  • YES!! The Curtis Mayfield classic, covered fantastically by the Jam, and with a proper horn section. Great Job AceFace!!

  • My sentiments - precisely!
