I have voluntarily been chemically castrated for 2months so far. My next injection is coming shortly. It does nothing to my brain function so if an offender wanted to be deviant, the thought process is still there. However, if the offender is soley motivated by sex drive (very uncommon) then there would be a reduced risk. I say reduced because the mind is trained to look at things sexual. A functioning organ is not necessary to sexually offend.

Not all sex offenders are male. In America, we have tons of instances of female teachers having sex with young males, as young as even in their pre-teen years. And these women don't have testicles to be removed. Would they have to have clitorectimy done on them like they do in Africa? Unless there isn't a comparable punishment for women, the punishment would be extremely unbalanced.
I don't think any of it would be effective anyway. The removal of the tool one uses to hurt others doesn't stop the impulse that caused them to be violent in the first place, they will just find another tool.

I think you have missed the point. Rape effects a huge number of women, my memory of the statistic is something like 1 in 12 women have been raped as adults. Then if you look at the child molestation rate its 1 in 3 little girls have been molested in some way. These crimes are generally committed by males against females and can have a DEVISTATING effect on peoples lives...

Yes, the point you raised about behaviour causing a variation in testosterone is VERY interesting. For instance, following a win men's testosterone rises making them more agressive and competitive, and after a loss it becomes lower. It's funny seeing as men in the past have joked about women being unreliable in powerful positions due to their cycle but at least we can predict the effect of hormones on our behaviour and act to combat negative effects, mens hormones swing all over the place daily.

I have heard similar things about menopausal symptoms. I saw a documentary about the menopause and they interviewed tribal women to ask them what symptoms they experienced during menopause. If cutting off the balls (or ovaries) of sex offenders will solve the problem I am all for it. I have voluntarily been chemically castrated for 2months so far. My next injection is coming shortly. It does nothing to my brain function so if an offender wanted to be deviant, the thought process is still there. However, if the offender is soley motivated by sex drive (very uncommon) then there would be a reduced risk. I say reduced because the mind is trained to look at things sexual. A functioning organ is not necessary to sexually offend.

Not all sex offenders are male. In America, we have tons of instances of female teachers having sex with young males, as young as even in their pre-teen years. And these women don't have testicles to be removed. Would they have to have clitorectimy done on them like they do in Africa? Unless there isn't a comparable punishment for women, the punishment would be extremely unbalanced.

I think you have missed the point. Rape effects a huge number of women, my memory of the statistic is something like 1 in 12 women have been raped as adults. Then if you look at the child molestation rate its 1 in 3 little girls have been molested in some way. I just woke up and its been ages since I studied the stats in uni so forgive me if they are a little off or out of date. These crimes are generally committed by males against females and can have a DEVISTATING effect on peoples lives...

Very interesting thing I heard in psychology and crime today, looking at biological links and predictors to crime.
Testosterone and sex offenders... 99 castrated - 35 not castrated. 11 years later, 2% of the castrated had reoffended, compared with 46% of the non-castrated. Not sure if castration was chemical or surgical.

Apparently that's one of the very few studies done on castration and sex offenders, though the findings are pretty interesting

I'm busy at the moment looking up arguments for and against legalizing marijuana, I need to discuss both sides in essay, then debate against legalising it a few weeks later. Thinking I might post a video about it and get everyone's opinion, and hopefully some good references as well (ie. cheat a little)

I have heard similar things about menopausal symptoms. I saw a documentary about the menopause and they interviewed tribal women to ask them what symptoms they experienced during menopause. They laughed and thought it was rediculous the things the film maker said that Western women experienced. For them their periods had just stopped. But I don't know if the difference is cultural or if it is physiological, for instance all the terrible foods people eat in the West and chemicals exposure.

...PMS definately exists but not all women experience it, or experience it to an extreme degree, I definately experience a difference in how I feel but it doesn't have to be experienced negatively, that could be cultural (caused by the shame women have about their cycles). It is a time when I need introspection and some degree of solitude, and the intense feelings can be channeled creatively. It is only when these desires cannot be met that I feel angry and miserable.

I can't speak for US law, I don't live there... in Aus both parents are given equal custody rights, unless one is less fit to be a parent than the other. Gender plays no role.

That is the leader of one feminist group, she is probably a radical feminist and a lesbian seperatist. There are as many forms of feminism as there are women, including liberal feminism, marxist feminism, anarcho-feminism, eco feminism etc. I would define myself as an egalitarian these days and not a feminist but I do recognise that feminist action was responsible for reversing the property status of women, giving us the right to vote, and taking away mens 'right' to constant sexual access...

Uh..."vegan"..."witch"? Since the U.S. female prison population has grown 757% from 1977 to 2004, we need to focus our efforts on those we are, in your words, "most troubled by". Thus, all feminists should be castrated. Even the ones that do not openly admit they are feminists. These individuals can easily be identified by traits such as knee-jerk assumptions that sex offenders are exclusively male.

If cutting off the balls (or ovaries) of sex offenders will solve the problem I am all for it. I am simply not sold on its effectiveness in resolving the widespread social issue of sexual abuse, most of which is NEVER reported in the first place because it occurs between people who know each other. I myself am a victim of sexual violence and several years ago I definatly would have wanted every sex offender castrated out of anger and fear. But that would NOT solve the issue itself...

...I think people are drawn to this solution mostly because a) it seems like a good form of revenge and b) they believe that sexual violence is caused by sex drive, which is controlled by the gonads. However, as the study I spoke about demonstrates pedophiles as a group (the sex offenders society is most troubled by) actually already have LOWER testosterone then other men. People are sexually violent because of mental and emotional issues, as well as cultural attitudes, not because of gonads...
