Simple, the fat is cut off and the bare essential lyric carries the song as Paul Westerberg's insistent guitar arpeggio keeps repeating. Those Memphis horns add a classy texture... It paints the picture of a guy riding a bus with a haggard looking Jesus-type derelict beside him who keeps buming smokes. It is lonely and hopeful and for many people it is real.
