  • For all those who think that bees will become trapped, so unless you place fresh flowers with sweet nectar in it, the bees will not touch it.

Yellow jackets and hornets use the muddy water to turn into paper for their nests. The best way to get rid of them is to take a corded bug zapper, place it to next to the nest and throw in smoke bombs and pelt it with a BB gun.

They will 'attack' the bug zapper to their own demise.

Or you can have a proff vacuum them up.

... if you can find the nest.

  • Is that Seth Rogen talking?

  • Here's the deal, I had to nests in the yard. I burned one out easily it was in the open. The other is up under a very thick pine tree that goes all the way to the ground, I can't get at 'em. I might try your trap system, what really stinks is I just bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches about 15 minutes ago and ate all the bacon :( Thanx for the upload.

  • Keifus, not sure about the scent, I never had any problem using joy soap. It does not take much. Just a drop to break the surface tension.

  • Good luck, and I hope it works great for you too. Let me know.

  • I watched a bunch of videos and liked this one best --- I had most of the parts and had one made in 5 minutes! Now to see if it works with turkey instead of bacon, since that's the only thing I didn't have...

  • Hey 'alaskarap'

I tried your trap and nothing happening, didn't catch anything, my question is does it matter if the soap has a scent, like lemon or should I try unscented soap..Would this matter? Also I tried a hotdog instead of bacon, that all had at the time..

    Great Video tho~

  • These work GREAT! Thanks, alaskarap! The Mexican yard guy said, "It looks like a bacon tree...but it is not...it is a HAMBUSH!" Well it sure is an ambush for the yellow jackets!

  • Thanks so much for posting this! Have a yellow jacket problem. I built one of these 2 days ago and it is a killing machine! I couldn't believe it when I checked the trap, all the dead yellow jackets floating there dead.

    Cheers!!!!!!!!!

  • I did this as well. I carry an epi-pen with me when I cut. I used a bug zapper that I made into a yellow jacket trap. Those things do no play and this time of year are looking for sugar/meat and anything they can taste. Bacon is a good idea. I use cat food because it so yucky? I have been in a nest x 3. No fun.

  • Can't they just fly right back out of the whole they came in? That's what confuses me..

  • Kabob Stick*

  • Using bacon you might catch me instead of yellow jackets.

  • thank you so much im going to try this! does the bacon need cooked or just raw, any ideas for millers and mosquitos!

  • Alright.. Just checking it out. I'll let you know if it works for us. Cheers!

  • awsome thank you!! I didnt have ubscented soap but Iuse very litte hope it works

  • Do not use anything sweet in the jug. This will attract Honey Bees, which you do not want to drown. Honey Bees will not sting you unless if you step on them with your bare feet, and we need them to pollinate flowers, vegetables and fruit trees. The beauty of this trap is that Honey Bees are not meat eaters, so I don't think they would be attracted into the jug.

  • i thought honey bees don't sting at all lol but they're cute bees :)

  • Will Sunlight soap work? I know somebody mentioned it should be unscented, which is why I'm asking. Also....HOW MUCH soap is required?

  • about a tablespoon or two.

  • This really works, inexpensive way to trap yellow jackets.

I hung up the jug this morning and this evening, it looks like I trapped over 100 wasps...Thank you!

  • will try yellow jackets under eaves of house

  • Just get obama , he know how to kill insects

  • obama gon fix e'r'thang

  • The dish soap coats the insects. They breath through there "skin" 1+1=???

  • Actually, yellowjackets are light enough to "bounce" off of water because of the water's surface tension. A surfactant, like dish soap, breaks the surface tension, so they sink instead.

  • Do yellow jackets sting?? You had better believe they do!! Each sting is worse than a cigarette burn continuiously!

  • Very important to use unscented dish soap.

  • OH yeah. In fact they will really atack you. I did hear that sweets work on wasp better than meat. I will try it this week.

  • @alaskarap Sweets will attract honey bees and killing honey bees is not good. There are not enough of them out there as it is so killing them only hurts us.

  • @alaskarap supposedly their taste in food varies throughout the season... they are given a sweet nectar when they feed their young in early summer, but by late summer the adults outnumber the young, and they become more attracted to sweets outside the nest. This info may or may not help in making a trap.

  • Do yellow jackets sting?

  • does this work for wasps or hornets????

  • i put fire works in it when it full of em it is really fun!

  • =D lmao

  • I made this trap yesterday. I caught about 150 yellow jackets in the first day. There's still plenty more to catch. Didn't have bacon. Used a piece of turkey ham. Worked good. Thanks.

  • 150 is awesome! I think some species aren't attracted by meat?

  • i might try it i got stung by a bee last night

  • i tried this using a lil bit of sausage but its not smelly enough. With some canadian bacon I only caught 1.

  • a 5 gal bucket 1/3 filled with water, a pepsi can with a string throught the middle & peanut butter on the top & bottom on the can with both ends of the string tied to each side of the handle on the bucket makes an awesome outdoor mouse trap too!

  • "The bait is the attractor to bring them in"

    thanks for the explanation

  • my problem is I have more wasps then yellow jackets but that was helpful.

  • thank you sooo much! i'm gonna try it tomorrow!

  • I am glad. Hope it helps get rid of a few of them.

  • That's very helpful information. Thanks!
