  • Is anyone else super impressed by the orchestra?

  • it was good the "flight" took me by surprise........

  • This is really bad :) lol I loved the 1995 one they produced so much of a better texture and sound i hope you agree

  • @Haribo168 i would have to agree that the 95 rendition is good, but this one has alfie!!! They both have their strengths, but I really like this one lol. just another opinion amongst many lmao!!!

  • I was fortunate enough to see Boe and Lewis together at the Queen's... best performance I've seen in my life.

  • not to fuel the argument bu the note is a C, i just checked with my tuner because I was sick of people arguing about it.

  • where can i get a dvd of this? i think it is brilliant

  • Who is the police at the left? I've seen him somewhere...

By the way, great performance from Valjean and Javert, I love the scenes where they are together.

  • I am astonished at all this bickering. Thank God we have Colm AND Alfie and every other great singer of Valjean to comare. What a terribly sad world it would be if we only had ONE Valjean, Eponine, Marius or Fantine. I have seen the show hundreds of times, and seen dozens of Valjeans, and EVERY ONE brings new nuances or fresh insights even if only one one line or scene. Vive les differences!!

  • Americans can't do Les Mis.

  • Did boe ever go for carmina burana? if yes i would like to see it^^

  • i think i still like quast better, but this javert is intense as hell

  • at 7:08 OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!

  • Wow Look Stop arguing if it's a D or a C no1 honestly gives a sweet stomping shit. It's a damn good performance either way!

  • colm wilkinson and Alfie Bo are both my favorite valjeans. they both have different things they bring to the character and really can't be compared

  • It's a C guys, he simply doesn't have the range for that good of a D but he can sure fake it :P I must say though, it's one hell of a C note!

  • @BecomeMyNewCat Depends on what you mean by 'this particular French revolution.' There *was* a real anti-monarchist revolution in Paris in 1832, led mostly by students, after the death of General Lamarque. Notice in the relevant video clip that Gavroche announces the General's death before the battle. While Les Miz is historical fiction, that doesn't mean everything in it is fictional. Doesn't take that much googling to be able to read up on it.

  • Holy crap. That high D was....HE IS BEAST!!!!!

  • @laralovesmusic1 ITS A C GUYS, NOT A D!!!!!!! STILL AMAZING THOUGH!!!

  • Have watched a lot of "Valjeans" on youtube. 7:08 NO ONE hits that "fllliiigghhtt" like Alfie. Most of them don't even try it. Each and every time I hear this, I'm still amazed. And he manages to make it seem easy! Damn.

  • Wow ... I never thought anyone could replace the original cast in my heart, but wow... I never expected a cast of such quality! Valjean and Javert? Easily equals (or even superior) to their pedecessors! Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!

  • I'm really glad they added back in the songs they cut out of the 10th.

  • get over yourself? That's the most hypocritical statement I've ever heard. Did you even read what you just wrote? Colm Wilkinson is not the ONLY Valjean. If he was Les Miserables would've stopped its production ages ago and never expanded to other countries because god forbid someone else plays him. So how about YOU get over yourself.

  • @BecomeMyNewCat Ahhh(sigh...). Look. True EVENTS is not True Story, but events, things that went down, like the war, bad treatment of peasants, struggles, etc. True events is what I said. There were no black Head Officers in that time-YES, I know, its 1 of my matters of intellect. I would not want, nor MOST, 1 a caucasian to play the role of, say, Ray Charles(which u ignored 4 not answering that previously). It would work. Ur calling me a racist makes u one, but ppl like u refuse 2 see logic bc

  • (enthralling music playing) lol

  • where did you get this from? like shop wise? xx

  • Ahhh. I So Love Les Mis.

But Where Is Act 2? :)

  • They used a different recording for the priest in the cd :( not happy. I like this one.

  • i love LES MISERABLES :)

  • I like the fact that Alfie Boe doesn't start off with a solo or a huge entrance. He really blends in and doesn't steal the spotlight. Having the other vocalists have their few soloed lines (not only were they just as good as Alfie) really made this song work.

  • Act 2???

  • Amazing.

  • How much i would pay for those little yellow pieces of paper...

  • PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY CHANNEL

  • I really wish I could say something more intelligent than this, but it seems I wouldn't really have much more to contribute to this comment board:

I laughed so hard at the beginning - ENTHRALLING MUSIC PLAYING.

It's nice, but... doesn't exactly get the same message across, does it?

  • Watching this whole movie, there were really only Two disapointments: Valjean and Marius (father and son[coincidence?]). They never hit many notes, and I wanted to sing along with range, notes and feeling: they lacked real deal singing. Valjean showed up with "Bring Him home" and something else. Its my fav play/musical, but they ruined it to a degree. Eponine and Cosette made Jonas look pathetic. As it should B a historical-based story, Javert MUST B White. Its not racism, its History(events).

  • @vocaltalent1 Valjean and Marius - father and son? May I suggest you rewatch the musical and pay attention to the plot?

How can you say Valjean didn't hit many notes? Alfie *is* an emotional singer - one of the most emotional I've ever heard. It is from *inside*, where it *really* counts. I do agree that Marius is weak. But to class Boe and Jonas together is mind-boggling.

As for Javert's race, it's as important as everyone be French, because it's not ethnocentrism, it's history. Sheesh.

  • @IheartZorro They BECAME as father and son. I try reasonableness without having 2 justify, and look whathappens. Furthermore,Its called a "musical" 4 a reason:if Boe didnt want2sing,he should invest in ONLY plays, not music. Musicals REQUIRE great singing, should, and if they are great, the feelingAndEmotion comes with it,as he should haveDone.HONESTLY,would U likeit if RAY wereDone by a White or Mexican,JellyRollMortons leads by the same,Caesar by blacks,ect...? Intellect and logic says no.

  • @vocaltalent1 We will have to agree to disagree on all counts.

  • @vocaltalent1 I'm confused. You do know that Alfie Boe is a classically trained singer and has performed as the lead at English National Opera, Royal Opera House, on Broadway, and others? So he can sing. And the O2 Arena audiences gave him a 4 min standing ovation for BHH, and huge ovations at the end. Almost 38,000 people liked his performance -- singing and acting. Read the comments on other posts, a great many were there and were in awe of how Alfie "became" Valjean. They can't all be wrong.

  • @vocaltalent1 Hecate235 has established Alfie's singing credentials.

You seem to be claiming Javert was a real person rather than a character in a novel. But even if Javert were 'real', I wouldn't mind having someone black play him as long as he got the essential internal workings of Javert right. HONESTLY I think inner character is more important than outer characteristics. This is where we appear to differ. I don't think there will be any common ground, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

  • @IheartZorro I agree with you! :)

  • @vocaltalent1 That is just stupid. What does race have to do with it?

  • @serenitykemeia My..Freaking..Goodness! R we bcoming SO delusional, SO irresponsible, that based on true story, in this case, real EVENTs, means nothing anymore! Soon, movies on real people will have no race meaning, even if its Obama, Lincoln, MLK, Elvis, etc! U people must drink and swallow some Dignity and responsible thick juice, with vitamins Real events and Honor enhanced.

Race matters bc then the WHOLE act/play/musical bcomes fake and more and more fictitious, if its not kept REAL.

  • @vocaltalent1 I realize it must be because I come from an opera background. We have 70 yo ladies playing 19yo girls, white people playing black, black people playing white. Leontyne Price, Barbara Hendricks, Jessye Norman and many wonderful African-American sopranos would have had very limited careers if they could only play 'Bess' (from Porgy and..) or 'Aida' For us the music and the characterization is paramount. The best singer/actor for the part, regardless. Even women for men lol!

  • @vocaltalent1 Yeah, you know I used to think that way too. But then I read this news article about this school that was trying to do some kind of historical re enactment of some war so none of the girls were allowed to participate, but the the minorities were allowed to participate because otherwise that would be discrimination. And for the record, Les Mis is not a true story. It is based on a novel that was a *reimagining* of a few real people and a *reimagining* of the revolution

  • @vocaltalent1 Lis Mis is NOT a true story!!!

  • @vocaltalent1 Les Mis is ***NOT*** a true story. The book is a novel - make-believe. It is a historical novel even for its time, but it is still just a child of Victor Hugo's imagination. It has been condensed AND CHANGED for the stage. NOT REAL.

    Sorry to bust your bubble.

  • @vocaltalent1 This is not a true story, it's from the mind of a great author. Also this is set in Paris in the1800's, yet they all have British accents. That's not historically accurate is it? Do you have also have an issue with Ramin who is an Iranian? Or just blacks? Your so sad.

  • @laughsalott36 So sad. Yes. To attack things you THINK you can with spins and twists. I stated, "in this case, real EVENTs." EARLY 1800's just incase u didnt know--I know-I know, u know. When something like this kind of art is created, and its created BY Westerners, it should stay so, unless its picked up by others and the rights are GIVEN. When Period films are done that take place in Greece, Isreal, etc., but the actors have British accents, no, it doesNotKillTheStory:Brits R better actors.

  • @vocaltalent1 What are you talking about?

  • @laughsalott36...(2). Moreso, races exist, as is evident by having "ChinaTowns, Mexican," etc in most parts of the world. Its also in evidence by their music preferences(blacks mainly[blacks listen to overwhelmingly only "black" music] - talk about Racism]), tho many, but not most, whites listen to Country music. U may want 2 live a blissful life in ignorance, but race will not go away. Racism is not observing race, statistically or historically. Live a lie: I will not. Peace.

  • @vocaltalent1 What in God's name does ANY of this have to do with you being a racist and not wanting non-whites to be in this musical? Blissful life in ignorance? How? Because I don't care about the color of the skin of a performer? You are not just observing race, you are being an opressor by saying that someone who is a non-white person (caucasian) should not be allowed to lend their talents to this musical.

  • @laughsalott36 I guess u read between the...what I didnt write. My text is read b4 I type it by others(1 or 2) and it makes sense, not that u have 2 agree with it. U sound very angry and agressive:has some1 done u wrong in ur life and take it out on others? I asked u b4:would u, or all blacks, B ok with having Ray be a Caucasian man,JellyRollMorton,Cabin InThe Sky,ColorPurple? No,It wouldnt B ok. Why? Bc it spells inaccuracy, etc. If u callMe a racist,U R one in ignorance. Its true.

  • @vocaltalent1 No I'm not angry, just baffled by your ignorance. Your insistance on hiding behind authenticity is laughable. Again look up the word racist, you are absolutely one. Thank you for the spelling lesson.

  • @IheartZorro There are French people who are black, Even back then. So ignorant.

  • @laughsalott36 I was going to assert that there were blacks in France then, but saw that French North Africa occurred later than the events supposedly taking place here. However, since then I've learned that a few tens of thousands blacks who were in the French Louisianna territory went to France after its purchase in 1803 by the US. Idea of slavery in the US not appealing to them, likely. But I would still insist that regardless of whether an event is real or not, I prefer the best portrayer.

  • @IheartZorro Oh snap. My comments were not meant for you. So sorry. They were meant for vocaltalent1.

  • @laughsalott36 I didn't take it amiss. In fact, I got to learn something from looking it up again. Always ready to learn something new.

  • @vocaltalent1 ah.... can't hit notes? oh guys leave the poor man alone its not his fault he's deaf!

  • @byebyebirdy100 THANK YOU. They just cant leave me alone.

  • 07:08

  • goosebumps while watching this! thanks for the upload ;-)

  • I have perfect pitch, the "flight" is a c

  • Saw this cast at Queen's Theatre, it was awesome.

  • Black Javert wtf?

  • @fundguy It's called color-blind casting. Norm Lewis was a fine Javert.

  • @fundguy So? He's much better than the white guy in the 10th.

  • @R20set Better than Philip Quast? Don't make me laugh.

  • Norm Lewis as Javert, Brilliant!

  • lao the guy who is javert is really good imho

  • this first song is the most epic song I have ever heard.

  • this is beautiful.

  • nothing against colm wilkinson, but Alfie Boe is the best Jean Val-Jean I have ever heard :)

  • I <3 Les Misérables =)

  • N0T STR0NG ENOUGH!!! The 10th had a secret to the music, the 25th is nice but missing alot of POWER!!!

  • @coll912 are you serious?! Did you hear the "FLIIIIGHT" note? Nothing against Colm Wilkinson, but he could NEVER get to that D note. He always sang a C, either that or screamed it, which works too. But don't say this isn't powerful enough. Alfie Boe is one of the most, if not THE most, powerful Valjeans I have ever heard..

  • @TwistandSh0ut

That's a D???? Shit.... Totally right about colm screaming the note and it being flat... Alfie is a REAL operatic tenor. Gotta love it!

  • @1981reddragon yeah that's a D. Colm doesn't even attempt it on the Original Cast Recording. Not a lot of people realize that its a D because a lot of Valjeans don't go that high and/or they scream it instead. Most Valjeans try to sing it in falsetto and it tends to sound bad; Alfie freaking nailed it though! :D

  • @TwistandSh0ut One note doesn't justify the disparaging of a prominent and seminal theatre figure. Alfie Boe is a phenomenal performer, but Colm always was, is, and will remain the best Valjean.

  • @cealchyth I was never belittling Colm Wilkinson, I was simply stating a fact that he never properly sang that note. I love Colm Wilkinson, he was the first Valjean I ever heard. However, stating Colm is the best Valjean, is a matter of opinion and not a fact. Everyone has their own favorite and because of this the title of "Best Valjean" cannot be given to a single person.

  • @TwistandSh0ut no, it's not a matter of opinion , colm is the only valjean. get over yourself

  • @TwistandSh0ut the fliiight note should NOT be sung like that dear sir.

  • @coll912 I'm sorry, but you must be deaf. 25th is WAY bigger and more powerful, not slow and thin as the 10th.

  • Love the orchestrations. Alfie Boe is outstanding!

  • Alfie Boe rocks the house.......:)

  • i've looked through your other videos and i cant find an ACT 2. is there one or are they just tagged by song after this one? i want to see more, but it would be nice to not have to sift through all of them to find each individual song. either way, this video is great. thank you so much for uploading it. :)

  • Having grown up with the 10th anniversary edition, I was skeptical going into this. However, although Boe is not Colm Wilkinson, he captures that angry, fallen man than Valjean was at this point in the show. FABULOUS, I love it!

  • Alfie Boe is PHENOMENAL! It's amazing how he brings the role alive again.

  • Does the bishop remind anyone of Carlos Marín of Il Divo? Or is that just me?

  • @trilingual28 Its not just you, I was just thinking the same thing.

  • @trilingual28 I happen to agree with you trilingual28. The resemblance is uncanny.

  • Jean ValJean's voice is beautiful! But I love Javert's voice much more!

Thanks for the captions, it helps a bunch!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR UPLOADING! You are a life saver! I taped this when it came on, but the ending was ruined by my DVR and it's stupidness!

My sister only watched what was taped for Nick Jonas, and now she likes the musical! Awesome!

  • this was my intro to Les Mis and I'm auditioning for a scholarship with its songs now. Instant fan!!!!!!!

  • act 2???

  • this is amazing! I just love the music :)

  • Alfie Boe is one amazing singer.

  • Honestly, this performance strongly rivals the 10th anniversary in my heart as my favorite. I was iffy at first, but, even though they cast Nick Jonas as Marius, I felt that every single one of the cast members pulled their weight and then some in each and every one of their parts. FANTASTIC. I'll be looking to see if I can get this on DVD.

  • @MultiversePatroller1 agree....first act, loved the 25th, second act, with a few exceptions, loved the 10th. i remember when i was younger, replaying the second act of the 10th solely. but here, i find myself replaying the first act only. alfie here really portrayed valjean well, in the transformation of a hardened man to discovered his faith and the man who he once was before his arrest....just as the book portrayed valjean to be (same goes for fantine...ms. salonga)

  • This really is a superb Valjean!!!! Wow!

  • wow, omg. this guy is amazing.

  • Alfie and Colm are so close in quality. The problem is the choice to cast Nick Jonas as Marius. It just doesn't work. So I'll stick with 10th anniversary.

  • @MrBrockilus truee tht marius in 10th is just amazing!

  • I am so speechless.. i could spent sleepless nights listening to all his songs.. Btw.. just curious.. is he an ILLUMINATI? Watch 10:22 he made the sign while saying "FROM GOD ABOVE"

  • @ed10908 ok, just because he HAPPENS to make a sign with his hand that looks similar to the illuminati sign, it doesn't mean he is illuminati. he's just singing and acting and his hand came up like that while pointing towards God.

believe me because i'm a performer, too. performers aren't thinking about what they are off stage while they're on stage. If i'm playing my guitar and i point at someone like that and say something to them after a song, i'm just pointing at them.

  • @avin4723 BUT really, i have searched all his videos from different plays and all ARE the same.. does he have to point that way in all the play? just curious... and you can check it by yourself..

  • @ed10908 There are "crane" cameras on the extreme stage right & left. That's how they're getting all the profile shots up on the screens. For most of the musical, Alfie's on stage right, that's why he's using his "upstage" left hand to gesture, it doesn't block the shot. On other clips of other venues, he uses his right, too.

Alfie's singing, concentrating on the lyrics, listening for his cues, acting, hitting his marks and aware of the cameras. Bloody good performance, I say.

  • what is with the wierd orchestra? The background music sounds like~odd. The wind ensemble has wierd solos and random cricket noises?

  • @cecariah0263 I think it has something to do with O2. It's a much bigger venue than Royal Albert Hall, which is probably why the acoustics don't sound as great as the 10th anniversary.

  • That Bishop would make a good Marius.

  • Colm Wilkinson is so much better, but he's still good.

  • alfie boe is technically correct but i just dont get the depth of emotion that colm puts into vailjean

  • where do i can buy this DVD??

  • 7:08 when i first heard that note i was :O

  • 12.05 Boe literally has lungs of steel!

  • Damn! This is a powerful Valjean!

  • AWESOME! I hope they'll come to Melbourne.

  • Alfie Boe!!!! Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!! I've never heard a Valjean sung by a WAGNERIAN!!!. This is some epic, historic shit. Might be the highlight of the whole night. (it totally is)

  • I would like to see police officers who sang together like that... It would be awesome!

  • U CAN'T BELIEVE I ACUALLY KNOW NORM LEWIS!!!!!!! I AM SO LUCKY!!!!!!!! ALSO I KNOW CAMERON MACKENTOSH (plus Julie Andrews)

  • U CAN'T BELIEVE I ACUALLY KNOW NORM LEWIS!!!!!!! I AM SO LUCKY!!!!!!!!

  • i wanna see the whole musical <3

  • Can you past the rest of the musical on here please? :)

  • Alfie is amzing....

  • earl is amazing !!!!!!

  • I would love to have a recording with Norm Lewis and Alfie Boe -sigh-

  • Thanks so much. This was amazing.

  • as much as i want to some of the files are not viewable worldwide.

  • can u please post the whole les mis 25th anniversary online?

  • MORE!!!!

  • I like the more cinematic feel this has as opposed to the 10th anniv. concert. The first 10 minutes of the show set the emotional tone for the rest of the performance, and this was done wonderfully here, simply heart-wrenching. Alfie Boe is stellar.

  • Effin' hell that 'FLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT'- AMAZING!

I never thought I'd say anyone could ever be better than Colm Wilkinson but Alfie Boe might just be the one who is... <3

  • I love you! I've been looking for this since I saw Les Mis at the cinema. Alfie Boe has the most perfect voice ever!

  • Ear Carpenter is a nice Bishop.

  • @Mrdv904k yea earl has the perfect voice for bishop!!!

  • @Mrdv904k Oh wow! I thought he looked familiar!

  • @Mrdv904k woah, wait that's Earl Carpenter as the Bishop? o.0 I thought he was Inspector Javert in the Barbican theater.

  • @RosesNightengales He was Javert at the Queen's theatre as well at one point! I went to see that one!

  • @liannakanan Oh. I see. Thanks, Cause, in my touring CD he plays Inspector Javert.

  • @Mrdv904k He's wonderful as the bishop, in fact

  • The one who sings "when i get free..." is the current Jean Valjean in spain... I love him!

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • I love the way how he narrates the song, for me his better than Colm Wilkinson.

  • @Mrdv904k Alfie's diction here is better than Wilkinson's that's for sure.
