Try turning the reverb up instead of using a sustain pedal. I found cranking an analog spring reverb all the way makes it sound spot on. I'm sure the Motif has a model of a spring reverb you could use. It's kind of funny how just about every keyboard/synth since 1987 has had a "Jump" preset. Any who keep up the great work and post some more Motif videos please. =D
No problem. I've also found using a tinge of portamento and some pitch bend to the second oscillator gives that huge sound we hear on the record. So how do you like the Motif? I've been thinking about getting one. Which odd as it may sound I need something with sitar, steel drums, and other various ethnic instruments along with an ample amount of choir samples. Weird eh? =P
I absolutely love it. All of the samples sound just like the real deal and can be tweaked to your liking. I'm pretty sure it has all of the instruments you're needing. It could probably use a few more choir samples though. It's a powerful beast.
Thanks. Right now it's between Fantom X or Motif XS. Guess I'll have to hop down to Guitar Center. Right now I'm using a Roland JX-8P from 1985. Even though it has that wonderful analog warmth, 6 note polyphony is quite limiting,,,
hello bRo, i have the same sinth, can you tell me how did you do thats effects, for example:
Organ-B- 03
Kit drum: D- 16
I bought it yesterday, and i dont now very well how to use, im mexican, thanks, answer me please, i can play that song but in acoustic piano, but sounds very well. help me please.,
On the right of the keyboard there is a button that says "voice." Press it, and then press the synth button, or whatever category you want. Then just scroll through the list to select which voice you want. The synth sound is called "After 1984." That's about as simple as I can make it.
Thanks! the synth was After 1984, drums Rock Stereo Kit 2, Bass was a passive BB 1&2 I think, and the faint strings was called Stringy. Hope that helped!
Thanks! Well, the keyboard already has a sample that sounds just like the original, so with a few changes to delay and sustain to the sound, you get that fat sound you hear on the album.
one time at guitar center i went to the keybord piano section, and this long hair dude started playing this out of no where and another random dude started singing, funniest thing at guitar center ever
Around $3,200. I'm not sure what you would call it. In the title it says "Yamaha MOTIF XS8 Music Production Synthesizer Workstation Keyboard" so I guess you could call it a "Synthekeyboard" LOL. Thanks for your comment!
That part is, in my opinion, the hardest part in the solo. The rest is really easy, but i cant those five notes down, which is sad, considering you play them over and over again.
Hey M.A.N. This is the best cover of jump that I have seen. Nice keyboard also. Yamaha, right? Only the best, For the best! Give us more. We Love You!!!!!!!!! 5*****

Is the video the same as when you recorded the song? Because I notice you take your hands off the keys before the note ends.

You did a GREAT job, and that song is a whole lot of fun to play. I think it is the phat sounds that are so perfect for the song and melody.
How many tracks are programmed? I have an XS8 too and what a great keyboard! I run it with the STAC a lot, that's my invention on chordboard.

what voice are you using?
therocker03 2 years ago
It's the After 1984 voice on the Yamaha Motif XS 8. I kind of tweaked it a bit to give it a more realistic and vintage sound that the song calls for.
MusicNXS 2 years ago
YES! After 1984 is kickass, isn't it? This sound is fairly nice, sir!
I like my sound with the R3, though. VERY phat, VERY vintage, and it has all the punch and portamento i'll ever need!
NICE VIDEO!! :)
