I would like to add that it feels like a muscle tendon snapping and popping and it hurts whenever i lift my knee and bring it back down it pops. What do you think this is? What should i do? im 17 years old I had gone to the doctor but they don't take me seriously and rest hasn't been helping much. It even hurts to wear jeans around the waste because of how sensitive the muscles are
i'm not sure if i have a hip flexor injury. It's been 2 months and the injury hasn't gone away. It's tough for me not to work out and be able to play basketball watching on the sidelines.I got kneed one day really hard in the hip (a full contact blow) and I continued to play the day after for open gym at my school. That same night I played again running full speed at the parkwith friends and playing contact basketball. I hadn't stretched and received symptoms of pops/cracks in the hip area.Help!
Great description of the technique...may I suggest informing people of the danger and contraindications of treating this area; especially the abdominal aorta aneurism.
I'm sorry, but this is really a stretch. You think your reaching to iliopsoas? Yes your off the lateral border of the rectus, but consider that next to that you still have external obliques, internal obliques, transverse abdominus, and not to mention the abdominal contents. If you can feel him selectively contracting iliacus or psoas major, then I'm amazed.
@aapompeonm I wonder the same thing. Active hip flexion will try to anteriorly tilt the pelvis and the abdominals will contract to counter that. I also look at plates 264 and 265 in Netter, and it seems like you are likely to smoosh the ureter and testicular/ovarian vessels that lie on top of psoas. I also wonder how frictioning the posas through all that overlying tissue can cause it to relax. Still, many MTs like this technique, and I assume their clients report having good results. Mystery.
@aapompeonm I should add though, that I've had it done *on me*, and as the recipient, I can definitely feel that when I attempt to actively hip-flex, it *feels* like the therapist is on a deep, contracting muscle, not just my abdominals. Course I don't know if it is psoas itself being touched, or the feeling of my viscera being trapped between the fingers and my contracting psoas.
You talked through that like a champ! Love the techniques you use, i have a few months left, and I will be an RMT can't wait to throw this in the mix!
I really like the side lying position since some clients tend to be wary with anterior abdominal work. I find thatworking the illiacus and psoas provide great relief to the majority of my clients with SI joint and LB pain. Thank you for posting

This guy does not have well defined abdominal muscles, and is therefore fat, and gay. If he were to develop his abdominal musculature, he would probably be able to do back flips and take on Ninjas.

Finally, a sensible massage. You search for 'groin injury' and just get a load of porn.:-/
