The HP Slate Project has been completely dropped due to the slowness of it. They are now working on a new project called HP Hurricane, this is claimed to be similar to the HP Slate but with a few things ticked off.

never buy hp laptop or desktop, all of their computers have defect. Hp wont recognize the defect as their problem because the damage comes after the warranty expires . HP laptops and computers just turnoff and never turns on again after the warranty, approximately 1.5years.

@KnifeNSnipeN touch computers originally made by HP using windows 7 have been able to to that since there creation it is called mutli touch. touch PCs have been around allot longer then the ipad so technically apple copied microsoft.

windows 7 is great. I use and has been flawless. Support for multitouch is not new. HP had this slate designed two years ago but needed to get it at a price point that it now is in to make it the volume in the market segment pay for all the features. Look it isnt worth arguing with apple people because they will argue that the adapter is better with a proprietary composite cable vs a hdmi. That no camera is better than two. That no sd card is better than having sd card. etc etc
Oh! Cool! It's like an iPad... but they took the extra five minutes to design it with a webcam, an SD slot, a USB Slot, and they gave it an operating system that runs EVERYTHING instead of just some few thousand shitty apps that Apple "approves of." Hooray!!! =D

This ad just makes the slate look gay but if you look at any of the other videos about the slate it actually looks really cool. Like way better then the ipad( even though windows 7 doesn't exactly have touch technology I still think it will be awesome.).
the problem with the slate is that there are no touch application for windows
and since it is running on atom you'll probably have problems with programs running slowly. but you having full os has some advantages
and the ipad has some problems because it's no full OS but all application are optimized for the touchscreen and there are thousand of apps (even without fart apps)
here is what the problem is gonna be. windows 7 was made for normal usage. not touch. like the ipad. yes windows 7 has some touch features its still windows 7.
You can't take a notebook computer, rip off its keyboard and trackpad, and expect a good experience out of it. Windows is a desktop OS, it needs a fast process or a lot of RAM, and it was designed with keyboard and mouse input in mind. The iPad uses a multitouch OS, built from the ground up, and all apps are designed with touch in mind. Are you going to use Word by touch? Good luck. And good luck with viruses, blue screens of death, etc. This is an epic fail by HP. Shareholders beware!

windows 7 is great. I use and has been flawless. Support for multitouch is not new. HP had this slate designed two years ago but needed to get it at a price point that it now is in to make it the volume in the market segment pay for all the features. Look it isnt worth arguing with apple people because they will argue that the adapter is better with a proprietary composite cable vs a hdmi. That no camera is better than two. That no sd card is better than having sd card. etc etc

the problem with the slate is that there are no touch application for windows
and since it is running on atom you'll probably have problems with programs running slowly. but you having full os has some advantages
and the ipad has some problems because it's no full OS but all application are optimized for the touchscreen and there are thousand of apps (even without fart apps)

You can't take a notebook computer, rip off its keyboard and trackpad, and expect a good experience out of it. Windows is a desktop OS, it needs a fast process or a lot of RAM, and it was designed with keyboard and mouse input in mind. The iPad uses a multitouch OS, built from the ground up, and all apps are designed with touch in mind. Are you going to use Word by touch? Good luck. And good luck with viruses, blue screens of death, etc. This is an epic fail by HP. Shareholders beware!

HP is doing HEAVY modifications to make multitouch gestures and scrolling perfect. Windows 7 is already multitouch friendly (unlike Mac OS X).
Windows 7 will run great on a 1.6GHz Atom Z530.
Again, you can't say anything until you've used the thing.

Let me remind you that windows is very powerful and flexible. With that in mind now i can let you know about its user interface optimization options which you probably have never used before. These little options allow you to customize the close buttons, the confirm, and window borders and make them a little bigger for your fingers, as well as option points and headers pieces. Thats why some of us still love windows, for flexibility, power, and functionality...

@tusharsingal I am not so shore I use windows 7 and I keep noticing stuff that would work epically in a touch based computer like the OSK witch it has built in as standard(doesn't seem that useful when you have a keyboard) or that you can pull up a menu for the thing s on the start bar bay pressing on them and dragging up(all so not that useful when right clicking is so much easer)

Reasons why the HP slate will fail.
1. the hp slate will fail because of the marketing of hp is to cheap and thus hardly anybody knows about this device.
2. its released after the iPad, come on no 3G just wi-fi 300000units sold in the US on opening day. Just imagine when 3G+wi-fi is released WORLDWIDE! Even though the specs are better on the hp slate, the iPad was marketed very well and apple's franchise has established a name, which is user friendly and well known.

No one will be waiting in line for the slate. The form factor is generic, but its the user experience which makes the iPad an incredible device.
