ya its 1973 blue barrel acid and getting the temptations, were the brigde to my negro bros, when brotherhood was very important , to live and feed your head is a way to explore your mind, from rollingmolen
I had a sign that blinked on and off red and blue,I used to turn on the sign play this song and turn off the other lights in my bedroom.(cheap thrills) I was 16 and I stole the sign from a post office. circa 1971
I have heard 6 different versions of this song already on youtube and none of them have the fast tempo and are as dance friendly as the one I have in foobar, excellent song.
You can "blame" producer Norman Whitfield for psychedelic soul. The Temps didn't like it after a few years - the music overshadowed their vocals too much
@56captvideo SURE IS ! By then they had Bob Babbitt , Uriel Jones , Dennis Coffey , Johnny Griffith , Robert White , Eddie Willis , Jack Ashford , and Eddie Brown .
@brothaontherun I so agree. I fail to understand why they're still underrated. Here's an example for ya: at the start of the new millennium, VH1 had their 100 Greatest Artists of All-Time series and they listed The Temptations as #100. I felt that it showed historical ignorance for them to do such a thing, then they really pissed me off when they listed Parliament next at #99. It was sad.
I strongly feel the powers that be fear the power of Soul and Funk when mixed with the masses, it creates a sense of enpowerment and togetherness that the Governments are scared of!
It sounds like i'm joking or being far fetched but i believe it so much!
@LouBo87 No, I totally understand everything that you're saying. R&B, Funk and Soul were still great in the 1980s and 1990s but were not as great as this era, you know what I mean? The musicianship was still there but it wasn't as confrontational. Rap is also a perfect example of your second statement. I was born the year Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight" was released and as I grew up I saw the empowerment and unity amongst the masses who listened to that era but everything post-Tupac...
@LouBo87 ...became less confrontational and more exploitational & hypocritical (e.g. hose who criticized Hammer as a sellout and a 'pop' artist became the ones doing the same level of music in order to reach that level of mainstream success Hammer achieved during his peak without being criticized for it; sorry, can't have it both ways). Now: non-confrontational rappers are nowhere near mainstream unless they censor themselves. R&B, Funk & Soul are the same way. Where's the raw social commentary?
@EFunkRock Huh bruh? That's what I'm saying. And on top of that, most of today's artists and producers are lazy and it's reflected in their music. Everything is a snare-clap, autotuned voices and a synthesizer. How can anyone ask me "do you feel that?" when there is nothing there to feel? Groups are gone. Bands are gone. True musicianship is nowhere to be found from this generation comaper to generations past.
@JLJ310 Your right. It's all crap, being churned out mechanically for kids too young to remember real music. That's what the music biz depends on today: Kids who don't know any better.
@JLJ310 it exists, its just the masses are too ignorant/tasteless/lazy to demand and seek out good music from the musical establishment. i know tons of people who have more musical talent then your dime-a-dozen rihanna, kesha and it sucks they're ignored. love your comment, keep on funkn!
Just love the original Temptations. Great song to dance to. I just think it's wrong to keep replacing them, when most of them are dead. What if they did that to the Supremes? Diana Ross would throw a shoe.
This actually isn't the LP mix. It's the mono single mix, with the intro from the LP mix appended to the beginning (the stereo LP mix is a lot different: for example, you can hear the doubled drum tracks a lot more distinctly, Dennis' opening "ugh!' is missing", and a lot of the reverberation and balance is different.
