ok...that's it, im going to start a petition on bring back the CPT logos from 1976-82 and the touch lady (the susan ciani version [1982-87])!!! SONY IS TOTALLY OVERATTED!!! IT SUCKS!!! BUT I DO LOVE THE ELECTRONIC DEVICES IT HAS AND THE PLAYSTATIONS...BUT THIS IS TOTALLY REDICULOUS AND GETTING ON MY LAST NERVES....Who's with me on that? let me know ASAP!!!
Just one question I have about this logo -- I found out that Columbia Pictures Television started using this logo in September 1976, about six months after Eric Siday (the composer of the so-called "S from Hell" jingle) died. I wonder how much influence Siday really had at CPT? Also, in addition to the shows CraigFoye80 mentioned, this logo was also used at the end of "Fred Flinstone and Friends", which, if I'm not mistaken, made its debut in the fall of 1976.
i agree with you 100%. when i was a kid, same thing happened. nightmares of the following variation with no words at all, in fact, it had a whaling elephant sound to it. this ranked #2 on the scariest tv logos. the only one on top was viacom v of doom.
I thought Coca-Cola didn't buy Columbia until about 1982. By then they launched the 80s Torch Lady logo, with the Coca-Cola byline. But then there was the rumored "Cokeburst" logo, the Sunburst with the Coca-Cola byline. Perhaps that was a short-lived placeholder.

I reminds me of a relaxing weekday afternoon of syndicated programming. The movement from note to note subtly reminds me of Coke being poured. :)

As well it should, for that's exactly what the jingle simulates. This always was one of my favorite logos growing up.

That was the intent, according to Suzanne Ciani, the composer of the music.
In the late 1970s, Coca-Cola Corporation purchased Columbia Pictures Industries.
