  • Brad BOGUS...

I think he's trying to tell us something...

  • if you truly knew how to fleche... you would know that you don't run... you literally spring yourself out of balance towards the enemy in an all out attack... it is very hard to block it done correctly.

  • I've fenced epee for a year and a half now, and sabre for around four months, and I really wish Expert Village didn't have the monopoly on youtube instruction videos. Whenever I want help with a technique I can only ever find them and their videos are so bad and useless!

I would put the fleche down as an advanced technique, so advanced I haven't even learned it yet, despite having fenced for a year and a half. Focus on the basics and get them down- good lunges, hits and parries go much further!

  • Completely wrong because in this style of flesh by the time your foil has reached the opponent you no longer have right of way due to the attack ending when your back foot lands.

  • After two years on You Tube this individual should have realized, by now, the gross and misleading mistakes he has made in his videos and be responsible enough to remove them or at the very least respond to the unanimous condemnation of his submissions.

Please, please remove your clutter so as not to waste the time of people who are looking for valid instruction!!!

  • i'm sorry but that just looks so cheap...

  • Whether or not it's an "award" isn't really relevant. But what is is the fact that you do not get a yellow card for passing an opponent. You are only penalized if you collide with an opponent (corps a corps). However, stepping off the strip is a penalty of one meter.

  • im doing epee on world cup level, and i know enough about foil techniqe to say that this is not the way u do a flege..if you want to do a flege straighten your arm, mage sure ur hand is at the level of your head and jump as fast as u can to the front -not up- then u have the right techniqe, or at least u can do a flege;)

  • Man this video hurts to watch... i would suggest to any beginner learning to fence to stop watching this guy and start listening to a qualified coach. I dont mean to be mean or offensive to the guy making these videos but the technique is simply presented incorrectly.

  • lol so you lunge (he makes an advance) and fleche.... hahahah couldn't stop laughing. hahahahha.

I used to think it was spelled as flesh. And parry...repulse... -.-" is it um.... double-up? or nobela? or what? -.-

  • you should avoid wearing running shoes for fencing ...

  • This man is a level -1 coach. In other words doing more harm than actually teaching. Firstly, thats not how to do a fleche. you should hit before the back foot lands on the first hip rotation. And Unless you have very strong legs and your doing epee, that is not a good time to fleche either. After you have finished your attack and with your opponent stepping back you are likey to get riposted in less than a second.

I think this man needs to get some lessons fast.

  • Wow it is soo wrong.. you made this up?

You fleche from the on guard position, to do a passing attack.. How can you push off a straighted leg? oh yeah thats right, on your lunge your back leg isnt even straight. :P

  • i've never fenced but I want to so bad can someone tell what it's like, such as is it fun is it boring ya know

  • It's exciting the same way riding a roller coaster is; lotsa info hitting your brain in a short amount of time. And if you can learn to read your opponent at some level by their actions off the mat, it's even better.

Not only can an insight like that help you beat them, but it works the other way; the more you duel, the better you get to know them. You see a side to them that meshes with their everyday...but not, y'know?

  • correct me if i'm wrong

but i thought in match's th fleche wasn't allowed

also i thought the purpose of the fleche was to pass to the opposite side of the opponent

  • In the rules of fencing you can use fleche in foil and epee but not in saber. In saber the back foot is not allow to cross the front foot at any time.

  • @kahotep7414 Incorrect; you are not allowed to cross while going forward.

  • i don't appreciate this turd posting lessons...

he makes the sport look bad, is often incorrect, and demonstrates improper technique

search for "gia foil lesson" for an amazing series of advanced lessons.

  • I really appreciate the good will of this person is posting these lessons but they are terrible. If anyone wants to see what good lesson on video look like check out David Littelle's stuff - also posted on You Tube.

  • Hi nigelphang,

Could you give me the address to one of David Littelle's lessons, I tried to do a search on it but had no luck.

    Cheers!

  • Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. The lessons are on you tube submitted as davidlittell. I think they are the most useful lessons I have seen in video so far.

  • @nigelphang I agree. These lessons will give ppl the right idea, but if ppl mirror them they will develop bad habits.

  • @nigelphang I agree. These lessons will give ppl the right idea, but if ppl mirror them they will develop bad habits.

  • @nigelphang TANX YOU FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT

  • a yellow card is not awarded. there is nothing nice or rewarding about getting a yellow card.

  • @Crisp1987 @Crisp1987 "Award" is a correct term, even if not the post popular one. It can mean either thing, for instance t.104, "A competitor may ha ve atouch awarded against him...," it's even in the index, both entries listed are in fact penalties.

  • @Crisp1987 This is the problem: people are ignorant enough to put this kind of thing up on YouTube, and then there are others who error arrogantly and in so doing drag even more people down with them with another show of ignorance that in itself does nothing to correct the problem save fan the flames.

  • Theres no more Flashes any more in FIE cadet and junior fencing...crosstep is yellow card now...to make the same effect u must do it like saber fencer does it...:(

  • I don't mean to be a downer, but if this person is instructing then his basic footwork should not be as sloppy as it is here. I mean, he begins his video by saying the fleche is perhaps the most advanced footwork maneuver, but yet he hardly bends his knees and keeps finishing his advances and retreats with his feet together?

If his opponent suddenly decided to go on the offensive, he would be caught flatfooted with his feet locked so close together.

  • this attack is aslo known as the straight arrow! the foil is the arrow and your legs is the bow it self while your musales is the string. you want to push off with as much force as you can put what you can control. this will make the attack more powerful and you'll have a longer reach.

  • fleche means arrow in french

  • This is such a pointless video. First of all, a flesh is not at all a "run", but more of a controlled fall. You're not "running" at all, but trying to stabilize yourself from falling flat on your face.

Also, there's no way you can just learn how to flesh from a Youtube video anyways. There's so much technique and training involved that you need a coach / expert to teach you.

  • Flesche is actually a run, by definition. There are some technical misconseptions in this video (you can start a fleche from anywhere, even if it's not a redoublement from lunge)

  • A "Cross over Run" would be illegal in the u.k and in pretty much every other country apart from maybe the u.s

And by the way people! when you bring your back foot through don't keep it facing out like this bloke, you can do yourself a serious injury.

  • where did you get this stuff about a cross over run being illegal. It's only illegal in saber.

  • it's illegal in high school (at least up to state) level foil fencing too. You can only cross your heels backwards now. : /

  • wow, what negative comments, I think he is really helpful!

  • I think this has to be one of the poorest "how to " videos I have ever seen. You can be physically unable to do something but still talk about it, but this gentleman doesn't even know what he is talking about.

  • This is a poor display of fencing, do not be tempted to copy.

Go to your local fencing club and get a lesson from a qualified coach.

  • Dude, no, passing in completely fine. If fact, if in-fighting isn't your strong point, then you're suggested to pass. Also, a fleche doesn't have to be from the lunge position, it can also be used as a quick attack to cause a mal-parry or to recover lost distance from your regular en-garde position. If I were anyone watching this video, I wouldn't listen to this guy. He must've started fencing last week.

  • lol whenever I start in-fighting, i end up with a corre-acorre! Ya, i definitly agree with you.

  • OMG U SUCK AT LIFE. I don't know where this dumbass learned to fence, but:

    1) You don't get a yellow card for passing - absolutely nothing but a halt happens.

    2) His footwork(and everything else) sucks, so don't try to learn from him.

    3) He doesn't even have fencing shoes (or shoes acceptable for fencing) and he calls himself an expert.

  • Make a video then and send it to him. I doubt shoes effect anyone's performance.

  • fencing is a sports. they make sport specific shoes. some shoes from some sports can work for others with similar needs. the same applies to fencing. would you attempt to play soccer without cleats on a wet field? or play basketball with cleats? of course shoes affect performance.

  • *sport

  • I was taught to push off the front foot, and not from a lunge.

  • your are supposed to push off the front foot. it's because he sucks. you could fleche from a lunge, but this loser makes it seem like the only sittuation you're supposed to do it in.
