U can do it without PDA net just root your phone and make sure it has wifi/USB tether. And your set no need to download stuff to your computer. Pdanet runs slow also it sucks! And if your not in 4g it sucks even more

You are using your phones data to use your laptop in places wifi is not being used! ex. such as a car, plane, grandmas house without wifi. Of course your paying for your phones data. This still works today! I am not sure with tablets or any other devices. Try those at your own risks i guess.

Wow. You learned how to tether. Pfffttt. It's not free wifi it's tethering your laptop to your phone's 3G or 4g Internet connection. You pay for that. If you have a phone with internet, why are you dragging a laptop everywhere? If you have a jailbroken iPhone I recommend mywi. It does this without needing a cable.
