The music of this game was composed by Hajime Hirasawa not Koji Kondo. I read that this composer made the music for this game and then left Nintendo. Too bad, because this music is AWESOME!. You can tell the tremendous difference on Star Fox 64, where the music is bad in my opinion (just compare this theme with the music that appears in the intro of SF64, it sounds like is made with a casio keyboard for children! (and it's weird because those songs were made by Koji Kondo)

Also, I would like that the next Star Fox were based on this game, in my opinion it's better in many aspects like: story, gameplay, scenes, bosses, and even graphics from a more artistic point of view (they turned simple polygons into a beautiful universe), and of course, its music. It could be like the wario smooth moves minigame but extended version :).

Maybe. But this is too classic to be beaten by 64. The 'voice acting' was not horrid like N64. The music is nostalgic. And dear god...whenever you beat the levels on the hardest course and the Clear Music played? Oh my god you felt like such a bad ass especially when all ships reported in with full shields.

You know that when the game designers put so much effort into a sweet "first stage" kind of song, the rest of the game is gonna be very good as well, and for this reason I think it deserves a higher rank than #96.

Starfox, anyway, was the first true 3D game on home consoles.
