while music of the 1980's gets very bad press, I'm glad to have experienced living tru the 80's where massive amounts of music styles were given a lot of air time on radio, compared with the shit clogging up the charts now, I have no idea about the top 30 anymore, and thank gawd for that, David's new cd Manafon is fantastic, pity he wont tour with it

@anthonynewsome People who criticize eighties music are idiots who only know what was in the top 40, and usually the North American top 40, which was pretty pathetic.

The eighties was one of the richest decades in terms of pop culture. People are still rehashing or rediscovering - in music, fashion, furniture design, etc. - trends and ideas that were offered up as mere notions between 79 and 84. There was more thought and talent in that short period than in the 26 years since.

@GoblinsFriend thanks for your comments, I agree of course, there is still a strong connecting to music of that time, & with bands like Depeche continuing and getting bigger now it is interesting to see that they do not need chart sucess or radio play, David in many respects clearly shows that you can continue to make music U want to make, like Anthony - Rufus and the new stars which are interesting me now, for me also the early 70's with Bowie - Boland & the Disco Sounds of the USA

Me too, I for one like to fill in the gaps, a bit like painting. It's very hard to get the balance right with space in music. I don't know many other bands who could do this well. That's part of the reason why they were such an excellent band.

Yes, you are right. Come to think of it, some of my favourite albums have very interesting uses of space within the domain of music (or rather the other way around). The Cure's '17 Seconds', Echo and the Bunnymen's 'Ocean Rain' and Japan's 'Tin Drum' are some examples.
