Because of Germanic invasions of Hispania and Gaul, modern day Spain and France during Roman times, they largely absorbed Germanic culture. They were already Latinized and the Latin name most likely derived from barrelius. A Latin name. Mostly found in southern France and northern Spain in the basque areas. It could be either but to my experience, she's of Spanish decent.
