I just got a used one today like new with everything & the vio mounting kit with rechargeable battery's for $140.oo I think it was a good deal and works great. I didn't have the cash for a new HD at this time
Sven, do you know where to get a cheap VIO POV 1.5 Video Camera? I wanna start vlogging but cant seem to find one that isnt a bit pricy. Love the look and idea of this model, but dont wanna splash out on the HD even trying the 1.5.
Nice work. Good review, and a cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org
I got very professional time-lapse videos with camera! cool sunset videos!
Hey I am thinking about buying this camera or the contour hd wich is much alike the go pro wich one is better for skiing or longboarding and how is the quality
so basically when the unit is plugged into your bike, it runs off the bikes power, and doesnt charge the batteries? or would it just not recharge the batteries that it came with?
should i get this or the gopro hd, i live in the US and wanna use it for snowboarding/longboarding (i dont care about the hd because my computer wouldnt be able to handle it while editing)
Where is the mic on this is it in the camera head? When you blog do you use that mice and though on your vids the wind sound is good... do you do anything to hel[ with wind noise?
Yeah that's a nice set up. One really nice thing is the ability to see the control unit to determine if you're recording or not. The GoPro people (I'm one) always start their videos with them looking at the camera to make sure its running.
Although its now $500 US, so its about $200 more than a GoPro. That's great if you can afford it. The mic does a great job picking up your voice.
Lol, after we hook up these 4-5 devices your ready to go! I like the remote idea, its sexy but the GoPRO HD can record HD and is "Allot more portable" that the Vio POV 1.5... We want smaller, not bigger, with extra cables!?!
@JoeVSvolcano depends what you want the camera for. The gopro cannot record for eight hours in a day and only save small portions where anything interesting happens.
I use this like a blackbox, something you can't do with the gopro. HD is all good and well but the file sizes are insane.
Don't get me wrong, I love the gopro (see my review) but different cams have different uses.
Good review im buying a new POV HD for my rally car :) and have used POV 1.0 befor as well which I was relly happy whith cheek out my videos from Rally Tasmania 2009 :)
hmmm... might want 2c if there is a version manufactured for sale in the U.S. (between border electronic purchasing voids the warranty) if manufactured specific 4 that country
Does anyone know of a video camera, other than this, that has the "loop" and tag kind of feature, where it continuously records and if the button was pushed it will record the last 5 min etc? message if you know. also someone knowing the name of this feature would help haha . thanks
Hiya Sven, thanks for the review, after seeing this, I bought one too for radio control model flying filming as I dont have a camera man and am "trying" to do a 40 minute / 4 week extended review of it too, in "probably" toooo much detail... Love yer biking vids mate, I miss my bike :-(
it was the hd version, but the damn thing wouldnt film for more than 3 seconds at a time, the instructions were indecipherable and is just didnt work for me
yeah agree with the directions id rather have them make sense then be in like 12 different languages. but the camera you got was probably just fucked up mine has taken hit after hit and works like new
one quick question, where abouts in your helmet do you put your mic? centre, left, right??? because got mine in the centre and the sound isnt that good when i breathe heavily
I got this setup after watching your video and a buncha other reviews on it. I'm pretty happy with it and stoked! I tried the camera in the helmet setup, but this is so much better... and probably a good bit safer too. Thanks!
But this has better quality, lasts longer and if I am correct has a view screen built in...
So if youre riding and some fool cuts you off or causes you to crash, ou can show it to a cop RIGHT THERE. And with the tag feature just tag it and that might keep the chances of the cop seeing something else on it you don't want him to ;-)
oh god you're video makes me dizzy. anyway how much is the vio again and you're still using it? i wish you could make a video on how to setup the whole thing
Terrific review Sven! If you still having an issue with the cable being too short then let me know as we've got extension leads in 1.5 and 3 meter lengths.
When it arrives NEVER remove the camera from the body of the unit (the screw in bit) once you've VERY CAREFULLY connected it. Do not take it apart, for any reason. Heed this advice and you'll thank me. They break very easily. I've broken 2. My friend 1.
Sven, sorry matey, I have one small request - it is hard for me to find a night shooting with this camera. I found one here on youtube but it is POV 1.0 not like yours 1.5 (moto).
So could you please upload a small testing of night shooting on artifical light? Say, regular city streets?
I use a POV1 on my superbike. It's an amazing camera and I needed that battery life so that I can record constantly in case something happens like a cager pulls out in front of my at an intersection and I Tbone him/her.
It's never the other person's fault, but I have the camera footage to prove that it wasn't my mistake. The camera has already payed for itself because of how many shitty drivers there are out there.
Damn I still don't see the need for 1080p/i for a camera like that especially when not many computers would be able to appreciate that... I am willing to bet that version of the camera will be more expensive making the current version cheaper which is better for me
The higher the resolution, the greater the detail. The greater the detail, the more easily the camera can pickup license plate info from a distance.
Cagers who hit bikes are significantly more likely to flee the scene than if they hit another cager. I wear a helmet cam at all times mostly for the purpose of the possibility of being picked off by a cager. I not only want to prove the cager was at fault; I also want to make sure I get the license plate info if they decide to flee the scene.
I love those cameras. I had a chance to play with the old model the POV 1... but my god they are expensive...
Are you doubling the lead back up into your helmet so attach the side of the helmet then up through the bottom to place the mic then back out again to go down to the main unit?
I love how portable the old one was to. Just clip it to googles or sun glasses and you could record on the go.
Used to clip it to one of my hats... Looks weird walking about talking to yourself but its fun.
looks like a lot of fun...did you buy that camera set up at a store or online somewhere...if online...got a website? i have been looking for something like that!*****
Great review, and I can't say enough how much of a bonus it is to have HQ and HD both available. Anyway, even if people don't end up buying this one, at least you did a good job of going over what some things are to look for as important in a helm cam too.
That camera is very nice. Great quality, audio and video. Bummer about the cable length, maybe the company that makes it will sell some extensions in the future. Another good video Sven, cheers!
Did you ever try to dunk it underwater? They say my ATC3K is waterproof, but im too scared to try that. I have an old ATC2K maybe i'll test this out with that old thing ;-)
the atc is waterproof, just make sure the o rings are in good condition and not pinched when you put the back on. I've had mine under a few ft of water no problem at all, well apart from the crap quality!
Hya Zypp, Yeh i was thinking what neat place to ride ;-) ................... I like this cam setup but its mucho dinero for me, im hoping to get the harddrive setup thats on Sven's road bike, it's not quite as good as this but the picture is fine for the price, and i dont need the mic as i aint logging, only videoing. Maybe for xmas ;-)
I've been thinking about getting the bullet cam and a mic for my Archos 404 Camcorder (a fucking AWESOME "MP3 player") but I honestly don't know if it's waterproof, and it'll probably kill the battery. If I could get a special USB charger to siphon power off the bike then I'd be in heaven.
Sven it seems to be "skipping" a few frames now and then, as well as some sun/shade discolouring. Is this a youtube encoding issue only or do you experience it in full quality as well?
Man Sven. That looks like so much fun. I remember taking four wheelers in the sand dunes on the west side of the US and had a BLAST. I've always wanted to take offroad bikes for a spin sometime.
Thanks for letting us check out your new camera Sven! What an AWESOME set-up, I can only imagine how good it looks on your PC! And what a beautiful place to ride, you sure are blasting up and down those hills now!! I sure would like to get me a Vio for my scoot and make some vlogs of my own which I just can't do with my current camera. Anyway nice job as always mate!!!! ~REEDSBUD~
Awesome! I heard about the pov camera right when they came out , seems like a very good one indeed I just don't have enough money for one!! *im still in hs :(* Oh also is that the sony dsc- d77 camera?! :P Im pretty interested in getting one of that too once I have enough money saved up :D awesome review too!!
Sven, i got a camera in my helmet, and the police havent said anything so far... also its a fujifilm Z10fd so the lens is right at the top, so it doesnt obscure my view at all... but the police dont really care when i get stopped, they just tell me to not put it on youtube with them on it... lol
think i might save my pennies (the ones that dont go on bills) and get something more legal then, us peasants dont have much money for hi-tech equipment....
I just got a used one today like new with everything & the vio mounting kit with rechargeable battery's for $140.oo I think it was a good deal and works great. I didn't have the cash for a new HD at this time

Great Review.
I picked up a couple Tachyon XC for Son's on board RC Heli flights.
Haven't mtd to scoot or helmet yet. I do the 1800vtx Neo.
Tachyon's options are archaic, to where you have no options to rotate it's view level if not square on top of something.
A fabricated tube mount maybe.
The POV 1.5 you did looks to be the answer.
Nice compact easy to place camera & mic.
I like the fact no huge brick mounted like GoPro & others.
Dual view would be nice, to add cuts in later.
Cheers

doh, didnt notice the pop with the cable extension link. sorry!

Did you ever try to dunk it underwater? They say my ATC3K is waterproof, but im too scared to try that. I have an old ATC2K maybe i'll test this out with that old thing ;-)
robinphillips 2 years ago
the atc is waterproof, just make sure the o rings are in good condition and not pinched when you put the back on. I've had mine under a few ft of water no problem at all, well apart from the crap quality!
ruuman 2 years ago
Cool, thanks, i'll try it tonight, after i add a bit of silicon gel to the o-rings ;-)
robinphillips 2 years ago
man that quality is freakin awesome, it should come standard with a sun filter cap :(
EdgeyForSure 2 years ago
wow what fantastic tracks ! The picture looked quite bleached and blurred, was it the sun on the lens? Look a neat arrangement tho.

Maybe for xmas ;-)
robinphillips 2 years ago
Ummm the road camera setup was more money? Unless it's cheaper there?

I've been thinking about getting the bullet cam and a mic for my Archos 404 Camcorder (a fucking AWESOME "MP3 player") but I honestly don't know if it's waterproof, and it'll probably kill the battery. If I could get a special USB charger to siphon power off the bike then I'd be in heaven.

Why is the video tilted?
5starstunta 2 years ago
My poor mounting. Just needs an ajustment.
svengalie 2 years ago
Sven it seems to be "skipping" a few frames now and then, as well as some sun/shade discolouring. Is this a youtube encoding issue only or do you experience it in full quality as well?

8:13 ... That's what she said!
Excellent vid Sven, good to know the camera-behind-visor trick ain't legal here in the UK - won't be trying that again I guess!

~REEDSBUD~

do you have to drill holes into the helmet or is it sticky pads?
lausanne0304 2 years ago
If you watch again I pull out all sorts of weird looking things. They all make it very easy to velcro it to the helmet.
svengalie 2 years ago
awesome quality footage, that new cam of yours gives a great sense of speed & movement *thumbs up*

Sven, i got a camera in my helmet, and the police havent said anything so far... also its a fujifilm Z10fd so the lens is right at the top, so it doesnt obscure my view at all... but the police dont really care when i get stopped, they just tell me to not put it on youtube with them on it... lol

Your choice. If you have an accident your insurance will not pay out. And they'll throw the book at you.
It also sounds like you had nice coppers.
svengalie 2 years ago
think i might save my pennies (the ones that dont go on bills) and get something more legal then, us peasants dont have much money for hi-tech equipment....
