  • I just got a used one today like new with everything & the vio mounting kit with rechargeable battery's for $140.oo I think it was a good deal and works great. I didn't have the cash for a new HD at this time

  • Sven, do you know where to get a cheap VIO POV 1.5 Video Camera? I wanna start vlogging but cant seem to find one that isnt a bit pricy. Love the look and idea of this model, but dont wanna splash out on the HD even trying the 1.5.

    Thanks dude.

  • Nice work. Good review, and a cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org

I got very professional time-lapse videos with camera! cool sunset videos!

  • cool camera! i love it! And this camera is great for Time Lapse Photography too! you just need this device: tempusALL.bymac.org

  • Hey I am thinking about buying this camera or the contour hd wich is much alike the go pro wich one is better for skiing or longboarding and how is the quality

  • good review.... all is needed to know u put it in!!!!!!! top man!!!

  • so basically when the unit is plugged into your bike, it runs off the bikes power, and doesnt charge the batteries? or would it just not recharge the batteries that it came with?

  • Just got my pov 1.5. Took it snowboarding the other day and it is awesome. I'm dying to take it on my bike.

  • is this camera hd?

  • @Aleex702 the hd version arrives here tomorrow, I plan on doing a similar review of it.

  • @svengalie AWESOME! can't wait for the review!

  • should i get this or the gopro hd, i live in the US and wanna use it for snowboarding/longboarding (i dont care about the hd because my computer wouldnt be able to handle it while editing)

  • Hi Sven

Where is the mic on this is it in the camera head? When you blog do you use that mice and though on your vids the wind sound is good... do you do anything to hel[ with wind noise?

    Cheers

    Shagg

  • The Remotecontrol is the best Positiv site on this Camera for me , the Quality mmh ...

  • @MrSpeedfightRichy You seem to watch a few of my vids. I use the pov exclusively unless otherwise stated.

    I use vegas software.

  • Great Review.

I picked up a couple Tachyon XC for Son's on board RC Heli flights.

Haven't mtd to scoot or helmet yet. I do the 1800vtx Neo.

Tachyon's options are archaic, to where you have no options to rotate it's view level if not square on top of something.

    A fabricated tube mount maybe.

The POV 1.5 you did looks to be the answer.

Nice compact easy to place camera & mic.

I like the fact no huge brick mounted like GoPro & others.

Dual view would be nice, to add cuts in later.

    Cheers

  • Yeah that's a nice set up. One really nice thing is the ability to see the control unit to determine if you're recording or not. The GoPro people (I'm one) always start their videos with them looking at the camera to make sure its running.

Although its now $500 US, so its about $200 more than a GoPro. That's great if you can afford it. The mic does a great job picking up your voice.

  • Lol, after we hook up these 4-5 devices your ready to go! I like the remote idea, its sexy but the GoPRO HD can record HD and is "Allot more portable" that the Vio POV 1.5... We want smaller, not bigger, with extra cables!?!

  • @JoeVSvolcano depends what you want the camera for. The gopro cannot record for eight hours in a day and only save small portions where anything interesting happens.

I use this like a blackbox, something you can't do with the gopro. HD is all good and well but the file sizes are insane.

Don't get me wrong, I love the gopro (see my review) but different cams have different uses.

  • go get yourself an Epic action cam

  • Good review im buying a new POV HD for my rally car :) and have used POV 1.0 befor as well which I was relly happy whith cheek out my videos from Rally Tasmania 2009 :)

  • i dont like it its no HD and to mutch wires if im Thinking About something like that and smal and cheep i will take VHOLDR CONTOUR "HD" 1080P

  • hmmm... might want 2c if there is a version manufactured for sale in the U.S. (between border electronic purchasing voids the warranty) if manufactured specific 4 that country

  • nice vid! :D How much is this camera?!... it got poor quality, the counterHD got much better qualty though...

    is it a KTM you're riding?.. i got a KTM 125 exc ;)

  • nice vid! :D How much is this camera?!...

    is it a KTM you're riding?.. i got a KTM 125 exc ;)

  • Does anyone know of a video camera, other than this, that has the "loop" and tag kind of feature, where it continuously records and if the button was pushed it will record the last 5 min etc? message if you know. also someone knowing the name of this feature would help haha . thanks

  • The 6 hour recording was with witch resolution (memory card)?

  • Hiya Sven, thanks for the review, after seeing this, I bought one too for radio control model flying filming as I dont have a camera man and am "trying" to do a 40 minute / 4 week extended review of it too, in "probably" toooo much detail... Love yer biking vids mate, I miss my bike :-(

  • you should up grade with a goprocamera

  • nice video and cool off road riding

  • haha thanks man for the comment great videos too

  • THAT'S GRASS TRIMMER!!!

  • Good FAQ since this was what I was going to ask anyway - thanks.

    Cheers!

  • great video / review --- did you place the mic inside your helmet --- I ride a VROD and the wind noise is overwhelming at 70 mph --- thanks

  • setting 5, standard mic that comes with, behind foam and I can happily chat away to the camera even at illegal speeds.

  • Im thinking of getting one of these to use when im downhill mountainbiking,

Is this camera worth it's price?

  • @Rasmusolofsson yes definitely. I'm still using and loving it.

coupon code "flyfrenchgiraffe" gives you 10% off at the site in the description.

  • may I purchase this even though I live in the US?

  • Your filthy american money is no good here.

(lol yes of course you can if you have a credit/debit card)

  • I'm not an American..but ok..cheers mate

  • hey sven, im gonna get a cam but i dont know weather to go for the pov or the gopro hd, any suggestions? thanks for the help.

  • I was thinking the same thing.

  • @tinhead0 gopro is crap, i got one DO NOT BUY!!! had to take that pos back

  • really? i just bought one works great idk what you did to it?

maybe it wasn't HD they made some improvements like battery life

  • it was the hd version, but the damn thing wouldnt film for more than 3 seconds at a time, the instructions were indecipherable and is just didnt work for me

  • yeah agree with the directions id rather have them make sense then be in like 12 different languages. but the camera you got was probably just fucked up mine has taken hit after hit and works like new

  • Comment removed

  • Hell yeah M13

  • one quick question, where abouts in your helmet do you put your mic? centre, left, right??? because got mine in the centre and the sound isnt that good when i breathe heavily

  • cover the mic, perhaps?

  • put the mic by your head , u will be able to hear your voice fine

  • I got this setup after watching your video and a buncha other reviews on it. I'm pretty happy with it and stoked! I tried the camera in the helmet setup, but this is so much better... and probably a good bit safer too. Thanks!

  • wicked cool.

    jolly good job, mate!

  • Because of your great review and awesome video, I'm gonna buy it!!! Again thanks for the helpful vid!

  • is this better than the gopro?

  • IMO, the Gopro is just fine...

But this has better quality, lasts longer and if I am correct has a view screen built in...

So if youre riding and some fool cuts you off or causes you to crash, ou can show it to a cop RIGHT THERE. And with the tag feature just tag it and that might keep the chances of the cop seeing something else on it you don't want him to ;-)

  • does anyone know of a good quality airsoft helmet cam for 50-150$??? cuz i have a small budget.

  • Sven u have tried them all xD

U just have the Sony full HD helmet cam and the vholdr contourHD left; )

  • I went to be the sony last week but:

    No external mic input.

    Camera not removable/replacable.

    8 gig = 1 hour!

    200 minutes battery life.

Not able to charge from bike.

and other nauses, I wouldn't mid if it wasn't for the external microphone input.

  • oh that sucks:(

I'm using atc3k now, but I gonna try the contourHD from vholdr; )

I stick to wireless cameras; )

  • cool

  • Yeah! Make a video on how to set it up in detal..

  • oh god you're video makes me dizzy. anyway how much is the vio again and you're still using it? i wish you could make a video on how to setup the whole thing

  • Full set-up videos for VIO on my channel...

  • kinda pricy

  • having tried (probably) everything in the market leading upto this model I'd certainly affirm you get what you pay for.

  • (tried original gopro atc2k veho muvi 2x goodmans dvr 6x sony bullet cams assortment of lesser bullet cams chasecam pdr 100 HQR1 HAR4 wireless sunglasses cam wired sunglasses cam pov 1.5)
  • I really want the latest sony, priced at a whopping £2.5k.

Spend the money, get the results.

(sorry for the multiple replies, youtube threw a 500 character fit, yet I was WAY below it in my original message.

  • Hey you wrote "If you're bored now skip ahead" right when you were talking about me......asshole.

  • Ohh.....wow you said my name! Am I famous now?

  • My 2nd unit was faulty again :(

  • :D SVEEENNNNNNN

  • thats a third of the cost of my bike =(

  • Terrific review Sven! If you still having an issue with the cable being too short then let me know as we've got extension leads in 1.5 and 3 meter lengths.

    Looks like a great ride!

  • sounds like a 250 air cooled bike? BUT lol that would be really weird... talking and riding all day haha. but seems like a pretty good setup.

  • hmm im thinking "hidden camera" =D

  • You can drive with no arms?

  • balance is easy, if your going nice and strait you dont need to shift, so you just coast

  • Thanks for the advice sven! I just got a call that it has arrived at the postal office. Really fast shipment=D

  • This is really awesome. Just ordered my pov 1.5!

  • When it arrives NEVER remove the camera from the body of the unit (the screw in bit) once you've VERY CAREFULLY connected it. Do not take it apart, for any reason. Heed this advice and you'll thank me. They break very easily. I've broken 2. My friend 1.

  • Please can you tell me how much DOSH I need to pay out for that Gadget??

  • five undred squib

  • Editing*

  • Hey Sven, Does this camera come with its own software? ( i mean for enditing the video's rather than just transfering them?) many thanks.

  • It comes with a disk. But I use my own software.

Never touched the disk, sorry. Ring em, but I doubt it.

  • how much does a cam like that cost?

  • lol you gesture so much I love it,

  • Sven, sorry matey, I have one small request - it is hard for me to find a night shooting with this camera. I found one here on youtube but it is POV 1.0 not like yours 1.5 (moto).

So could you please upload a small testing of night shooting on artifical light? Say, regular city streets?

    Thanks o' bunch in advance.

  • Awesome vid! You made me buy it :)

  • I use a POV1 on my superbike. It's an amazing camera and I needed that battery life so that I can record constantly in case something happens like a cager pulls out in front of my at an intersection and I Tbone him/her.

It's never the other person's fault, but I have the camera footage to prove that it wasn't my mistake. The camera has already payed for itself because of how many shitty drivers there are out there.

  • I just can't wait for them to come out with an HD edition of the POV.

  • did you not see the examples? there in HD

  • He merely converted the videos from the camera to a higher resolution. That is not HD because the source files aren't in HD resolution.

  • Recording at 720x480 at 30fps is considered HD

  • You know what I mean. I would like my POV to record at 1920x1200 at 30+ fps. It's only a matter of time before we'll be able to.

  • Damn I still don't see the need for 1080p/i for a camera like that especially when not many computers would be able to appreciate that... I am willing to bet that version of the camera will be more expensive making the current version cheaper which is better for me

BTWs: Sorry I am wrong for considering 720x480 HD

    720p hd is 1,280x720.

  • The higher the resolution, the greater the detail. The greater the detail, the more easily the camera can pickup license plate info from a distance.

Cagers who hit bikes are significantly more likely to flee the scene than if they hit another cager. I wear a helmet cam at all times mostly for the purpose of the possibility of being picked off by a cager. I not only want to prove the cager was at fault; I also want to make sure I get the license plate info if they decide to flee the scene.

  • @kennit1000 Sad but true, my friend got clipped by one and they pretty much took off immediately. She was also a sand nigger.

  • 6 months or so.

All we need to do is get the better recording unit :)

  • Kinda, yeah. But The company didnt claim it cause the model needs to exceed the specs of that to be able to claim it as 'HD'

The cotunr HD is ok. But its not as good image qual as this cam. Not even close...

  • thats awesome! you can actually move the mic so it can be in your helmet from what i saw?

  • love the on bike review, speaks for itself that way

  • love your vids - for the love of God make your windows on your channel home less translucent!!! :) thanks for the entertainment as always Sven

  • For you sir, it is done.

  • haha! :)

  • Ive found out how you can afford all of your gadgets and things, your'e a porn star sven!

  • O shit!!! Hes onto you Sven. 8)- Cool gear man. I like it alot.

  • wow those are some nice off-road hills to ride bro

  • Hi camera looks great and I am thinking of getting one ...what are they like on night shots...cheers

  • Very cool review, when my cheapo insignia breaks down, I will look into this.

I got a Hero Pro Wide as a contest gift.. I am going to try it as well this summer.

  • the end is breath taking

  • I love those cameras. I had a chance to play with the old model the POV 1... but my god they are expensive...

Are you doubling the lead back up into your helmet so attach the side of the helmet then up through the bottom to place the mic then back out again to go down to the main unit?

I love how portable the old one was to. Just clip it to googles or sun glasses and you could record on the go.

Used to clip it to one of my hats... Looks weird walking about talking to yourself but its fun.

  • thats the first oficial helmet cam i have seen that really seems to be funcional and dependable

  • £500 and it is not rechargeable!

  • So buy some rechargable AA's

  • I am positively DROOLING over this camera!! Maybe by the time I save up the dough for one, the POV 2 will be out. . .

You are right about the GoPro as well. It sucks up batteries like a crack addict!

  • You never know what piece of tech you'll get next. The new camera is great though. (like the off road vids).

  • No fair Sven, you going all High Tech and Professional Grade on all the budget VLoggers.

  • This camera is my dream.

  • can you tell me the price of it in euros??? please

  • Nice cam.. Pretty pricey.

    Where were you riding?

  • [see description] Spain, advanced tour, weekend just gone.

  • looks like a lot of fun...did you buy that camera set up at a store or online somewhere...if online...got a website? i have been looking for something like that!*****

  • That looks like so much fun!

  • Great review, and I can't say enough how much of a bonus it is to have HQ and HD both available. Anyway, even if people don't end up buying this one, at least you did a good job of going over what some things are to look for as important in a helm cam too.

  • 650 American is a little much for me right now, but thats a really nice camera.

  • Good video Sven. I've been looking into helmet cams.

  • Wow that looks great! better then have a huge camera in your face, Dont like the idea of blocking my vision.

Will look into this! Thanks for shareing this.

  • you like repeating yourself in the little note thingys :P lol nice video and review...keep it up

  • That camera is very nice. Great quality, audio and video. Bummer about the cable length, maybe the company that makes it will sell some extensions in the future. Another good video Sven, cheers!

  • doh, didnt notice the pop with the cable extension link. sorry!

  • Did you ever try to dunk it underwater? They say my ATC3K is waterproof, but im too scared to try that. I have an old ATC2K maybe i'll test this out with that old thing ;-)

  • the atc is waterproof, just make sure the o rings are in good condition and not pinched when you put the back on. I've had mine under a few ft of water no problem at all, well apart from the crap quality!

  • Cool, thanks, i'll try it tonight, after i add a bit of silicon gel to the o-rings ;-)

  • man that quality is freakin awesome, it should come standard with a sun filter cap :(

  • wow what fantastic tracks ! The picture looked quite bleached and blurred, was it the sun on the lens? Look a neat arrangement tho.

  • Hya Zypp, Yeh i was thinking what neat place to ride ;-) ................... I like this cam setup but its mucho dinero for me, im hoping to get the harddrive setup thats on Sven's road bike, it's not quite as good as this but the picture is fine for the price, and i dont need the mic as i aint logging, only videoing. Maybe for xmas ;-)

  • Ummm the road camera setup was more money? Unless it's cheaper there?

  • hahaha, yep you got me there, i never was great at math!!. If you ever get tired of that POV1.5 i'll take it off ya hands for ya.........!

  • That's the sun+youtube. Trust me, the camera is perfect.

  • how much thay go for sven?? ££

  • £500 ish. Shop around.

  • I've been thinking about getting the bullet cam and a mic for my Archos 404 Camcorder (a fucking AWESOME "MP3 player") but I honestly don't know if it's waterproof, and it'll probably kill the battery. If I could get a special USB charger to siphon power off the bike then I'd be in heaven.

  • nice review, looks like an awesome buy.

  • sadly i can't afford that thing, but it seems perfect

  • Why is the video tilted?

  • My poor mounting. Just needs an ajustment.

  • Sven it seems to be "skipping" a few frames now and then, as well as some sun/shade discolouring. Is this a youtube encoding issue only or do you experience it in full quality as well?

  • 8:13 ... That's what she said!

Excellent vid Sven, good to know the camera-behind-visor trick ain't legal here in the UK - won't be trying that again I guess!

  • Man Sven. That looks like so much fun. I remember taking four wheelers in the sand dunes on the west side of the US and had a BLAST. I've always wanted to take offroad bikes for a spin sometime.

  • Thanks for letting us check out your new camera Sven! What an AWESOME set-up, I can only imagine how good it looks on your PC! And what a beautiful place to ride, you sure are blasting up and down those hills now!! I sure would like to get me a Vio for my scoot and make some vlogs of my own which I just can't do with my current camera. Anyway nice job as always mate!!!! ~REEDSBUD~

  • Awesome! I heard about the pov camera right when they came out , seems like a very good one indeed I just don't have enough money for one!! *im still in hs :(* Oh also is that the sony dsc- d77 camera?! :P Im pretty interested in getting one of that too once I have enough money saved up :D awesome review too!!

  • The review of the sony on my blog should put you off. Don't buy it.

  • Thx for the heads up! Time to shop around then!

  • Awesome review Sven. Great work. Camera looks great. Nice and versatile!

  • Great review, thanks alot Sven :)

  • sven, you got electronics fever. the camera is great, but the price is a bit high.

  • Thanks for the info sven, I've been looking for a device like this for a while!

  • You own more electronics than radioshack.

  • lol, yea, hes a geek.

  • Smart equipment Sven.

  • nice camera and Video... :)

    greetengs from poland :)

  • do you have to drill holes into the helmet or is it sticky pads?

  • If you watch again I pull out all sorts of weird looking things. They all make it very easy to velcro it to the helmet.

  • awesome quality footage, that new cam of yours gives a great sense of speed & movement *thumbs up*

  • How much are we talking?

  • Dave + 14

  • Sounds good. I'll send you my address so you can ship me one. :D

  • Sven, i got a camera in my helmet, and the police havent said anything so far... also its a fujifilm Z10fd so the lens is right at the top, so it doesnt obscure my view at all... but the police dont really care when i get stopped, they just tell me to not put it on youtube with them on it... lol

  • Your choice. If you have an accident your insurance will not pay out. And they'll throw the book at you.

It also sounds like you had nice coppers.

  • think i might save my pennies (the ones that dont go on bills) and get something more legal then, us peasants dont have much money for hi-tech equipment....

  • Sven, copying Dan there mate! LOL

  • very clean video.

  • I think you should put a camera in your helmet and make it 3 - 0

  • would love one, need money!!

  • Very nice review Sven!

Bit pricey, but as you say, you get what you pay for. Definitely look into this for future purchase.

  • "I'm hot, *burp*" Excellent! lol

  • Good review Sven, what sort of cable does the device use?

  • A black one. (I dunno *shrug*)

Is it important? I could find out....
