  • The "si" at 1:24 is especially lovely.

  • It's tough for a bass to sing the F on an e vowel. He does OK. Still better is Siepi at this. Pape is a Basso Cantante.

  • @WhiteProfondo his low notes in Verdi're Requiem under Pappano are great. Strongly recommend it :)

  • What a great singer, artist and musician; Pape is truly a "Golden Age" singer!

  • I have troubles to picture him as Figaro... He is more a Boris G. or a Mefistofelès IMHO. This being said, I have no problem with his singing here!

  • Simply the best!

  • great!!.

  • He is definitely a basso, not a basso profondo, but a basso cantabile, he has de color of a basso but a very agile and flexble voice, and that also has lots to do with the technique he uses for singing, anyways, he is a basso.

Love how he sings this song !

  • Pape is considered a bass but his voice is by no means deeper than George London who is considered a bass-baritone. Why?

  • @aseshet

I think you're confusing "deep" with "dark".....

  • I think you are right !

  • I am surprised how easily he hits the "F".

Erwin Schrott has to watch it if Renee Pape decides to change back to bass-baritone arias !

  • First-rate stuff, quite!

  • I addition to this performance featuring excellent singing and actions, his facial expressions are just priceless!

  • I love the brightness in his voice here!

  • was ist das für ein toller sänger!!!!

  • Who is the conductor?

  • Daniel Barenboim.
