  • you are THE MAN for posting these vids..thanks so much!

  • I ordered the tab and it is a great supplement to this video if you really want to learn this song.

  • Sean, is the tab exactly like you play it in the video (ending as well)? You're a good picker and teacher. I've learned a lot watching you but I'm going to need the tabs on this one. Thanks for sharing.

  • Yes, the tab is note for note including the intro potatoes all the way through the ending.

    Thanks,

    Sean

  • very good

  • Nice, clean and pretty!

  • i been everywhere and cant find the doc watson version tabs! i usually play by ear but cant figure this one out on my own lol. any suggestions?

  • Great pickin,,very clean!!

  • If I was to play this In A where would I place the capo ...????

  • Same fret..... 2nd, play out of the G position.

  • Have heard Doc do this at least a hundred times - and you nailed it! Great job.

  • Gracias por el enfoque didáctico de esta gran composición.

  • Me alegra que te guste

  • Perfect!

  • este hombre toca bien

  • Nice man! Can't wait to get back home and try it out :)

  • nice

  • Great video. I must admit I learned most of this from a tab, but could only perfect it from hearing this! Cheers.

  • great, thanks so much for posting, i was playing this but i was missing some stuff.thanks...

  • What happened to the second half of the video?? I'm learning this so the slowed down bit is invaluable!

  • @Gwyn56 YES!! Same here!! I'm trying to learn it too,but once I get to the second half (the slowed down part), it just goes blank for the rest of the video!! :( Help, somebody??

  • @proverbs2221 > same for me

  • I've played ameture guitar for 30+ years and I've always wanted to learn this tune. Wasn't even sure what the name was until a few months ago. This helped me tremendously. Thanks for the leg up with your video. I give it TOP STARS for sure. Me and my first Martin really appreciate it.

  • Just my way of paying homage to Doc Watson.

    Glad you find it useful.

  • great choice what kind is it.

  • awesome picking. very nice!

  • Super !!!

You helped me a lot :-)

  • Man, you certainly can play Sean.

I gotta learn some stuff in this style.

    Fred

  • *Thanks*! I'm getting a lot out of the left-hand demos. I heartily agree on learning by ear. Well done, cheers.

  • is there a video on how to learn the brian setzer version of black mountian rag???

  • Sure, just play it sloppier on a Gretsch and you're all set.

  • cheers thanks.. i have the tabs but its a bit hard to read becuse the guy who sent me it wrote it out very small

  • these videos are really helping me. check out muskrat when you get a chance!

  • would you please do a slower version of black mountain rag like you did for some of the other lessions? My ears aren't what they use to be.

  • You can download the Quicktime file at my site and then slow the movie down as much as you like.

  • sounds good mang! It's fun to play along with u. thanks for the lesson.

  • I KNOW it's simple, but can you do Keep on the Sunnyside

cause you have the best vids for learning

  • cool! Always wanted to learn this

  • Great job! Love your videos. I couldn't agree with you more about tab. I believe it's best to learn by ear. It will make you a better musician. Also I prefer this type of flat picking verses the "over played" Tony Rice stuff everyone else does. Doc Watson and Don Reno are my favorite flat top pickers. Outside of bluegrass it would have to be Django Reinhardt. Keep up the good work!

  • great job on the song, and i totaly agree with the tab a well. in fact i only play by ear, dont' even know how to reed notes

  • Apparently, you can't "reed" or write...

  • LoL!! very clever!!

  • what happened to ther rest of the vidio?

  • For some reason youtube added the extra blank space. Kind of weird.

  • Superb!!

  • This is great fingerwork and clear pictures in all your work. What camera do you use?? Cheers

    Mike M:)

  • The camera is a Canon ZR10

  • Cheers for that and great web site. M:)

  • Would be a great video if you didn't have four minutes of emptiness. I gave you five stars anyway.

  • I was wondering how long it would take before somebody mentioned that. Ran into some strange Youtubeness during upload. If you want the clean edit you can download it at my site.

  • awesome picking. watching this on my iphone. very nice!

  • iPhone? I'm jealous.

  • hate to say it but it's so worth it. you'll love it if/when you get it.

  • What kind of guitar you got?

  • Santa Cruz

  • What model is that?

  • Tony Rice Model
