It's not really him, just his voice. I recorded some of his lines from the Metal Gear Solid series and edited them so that they'd make some sort of sense in the story.

Snake collapsed because Ellis shot the Kerotan (the exact reason will be explained later). The Codec malfuntion will also be explained later, but it has something to do with Jerry.

I use a Panasonic HDD camcorder. I just got a Nikon D60 a week or two ago, and I might use that later in the series.

As for Snake, I won't explain that here; I'll make a tutorial that will explain how to make everything after this series is over.

That scene is made up of three layers of video. From top to bottom, they are: Captions, a still frame from SC:DS (with certain effects applied), and a pre-rendered Codec scene.
