Fender doesn't make all it's own parts. Even on all the Custom Shop strats I bought which were pricey, the tuners are made in Japan. The regular USA line uses tuners made in third world countries.
Buddy Holly, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Richie Blackmore, Gilmer, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kirk Cobain. gilmer ? Would that be David Gilmour by any chance? a guy who's probably responsible for selling more Strats for you than all the others put together.
This is like a dream come true,I am very finicky when it comes to my basses,I think I would sneak into the body/necks room with a phillips screwdriver and a battery powered drill and go to town. I only play Fenders and most of my customers do also,I know that there are handmade stuff costing more but are lacking the Mojo feel. Its fair to say that even though they have their qwirks or stone-age design they are still the ones that most others guitars are compared too still.
@Lasaration They make totally different kinds of guitars. There's no sense in comparing them. A strat won't roar quite like a Les Paul and a Les Paul won't give you the glassy/airy tone of a strat.
I wonder if the BTO idea came through Fenders France association with Taylor Guitars who already have a BTO in place. What a great combo! Love the BTO programs and will be there in Jan to see the NAMM in Anaheim and onto Corona for a BTO order. A long awaited feature; Fender Visitors Center.for Fender players.
I've been reading watching and listening to fender stuff a lot these days. I'm never bored with anything related to fender golden age and solid body creation.
I would love to see a biopic of Leo Fender, Ted Mac Carthy, Paul Bigsby etc...
It's shameful that Leo's plaque isn't larger. It should have a showcase all its own. Leo Fender was an undeniable genius, and I think FMIC is bitter that he moved on and continued innovating while FMIC continued to pump out the exact same models of guitar and bass.
A great story! But honestly, this was a rank amateur production that made me dizzy. It's the chance of a lifetime to shoot an ENG video in a legendary facility like this and you go in not knowing what you're doing?!!! No one out of a first semester video production class would would wildly pan the camera around trying to keep up with the interview. Shoot the interview, then shoot the reporter reverse angle asking the questions, and then shoot plenty of "B" roll for post-production editing.
I was really surprised to not see Yngwie Malmsteen on that wall of legends! When I think of a musician that used a Fender Strat from the start of their career I think Yngwie! Where's the respect?
@qaawale Yes but Yngwie was a pioneer in the neo-classical style of guitar shred. His style of playing spawned an entire movement in guitar playing. And he did all on the Fender Stratocaster. I won’t deny that he has some social issues, but that is “Yngwie being Yngwie” and that makes him entertaining to me.
@fogaoagas I think it's funny that Cobain, when he was alive, made a point of saying how most Fenders were overpriced and poorly designed. In an interview with Guitar World magazine, he bluntly called the guy that designed his first preferred guitar, the Fender Mustang, an idiot.
But of course, his wife(assassin) has granted Fender permission to use his image and music to sell their product so she can afford more coke.
@Sjusovaren Yep Graham Coxon of Blur who has a new signature tele (this replaces the FretKing Coxon signature of 2009 and the Burns Coxon signature of 2010, next expect Gibson to award him a signature of his 335.)
BTW: The mic on a cord thing is really so yesterday. 1'st of all, a little cordless is better, or even better than that is 'lavlier' whatever, those little things U wear (give 1 2 the interviewee). BUT, in most cases sound from the camera itself is just fine. If not, put a directional 'shotgun' mic ON THE CAMERA. Simplifies the interviewing, & frees up the hands =)
Oh hey I LOVE the idea of combining a retail shop that sells GUITARS & not just T-shirts & other 'Walmart Rags'. Trouble is I'm sure that 'custom Fender' costs about 5X what it should, just so U don't piss off your vendors. I was wondering Y that 'Los Lonley Boys' use the Mexi-Strats if this 'custom Fender' service is available. I'm sure that's Y, 'cuz it's cheaper 2 buy the whole fuking Mexi just 2 use the body, & add the other parts, than get a 'real' Fender (that sounds worse N E way).
Oh haha sorry I spoke 2 soon - they got products in another room. I am still blown away that they would have BOARDS OF TEXT behind GLASS?! Y? Afraid somebody might 'touch the text'? COME ON! =)) SO retarded - maybe U guys couldn't find the 'budget' 2 get some MORE 'classic' Fenders 2 DISPLAY 4 people in your 'visitor' center. I think that's the real reason. Well put some fresh 1'st there then =) No biggie.
Oh wow watching this I am blown away how lame their 'visitor center' is. They have nearly a full wall of space filled with inflated huge TEXT! ROFL!! WTF R these clowns using 4 brains?!? Put that information on little 'info boards' in FRONT of the displays, or in an interactive kiosk with touch screen or something maybe - not behind the fuking glass where U should B showcasing PRODUCT! The cluelessness is astounding. Show some basses, & other models, etc.
Hey I hear that Fender & some others contributed 2 the Obama campaign & I'm wondering if maybe they asked them 2 "Pull A TSA" on Gibson & harass them with the raids?? U guys @ Premier Guitar could maybe check into this & get the real scoop =) Y R the other manufacturers being ignored, when they use the same kinds of woods?? Hmmm - nobody is raiding PRS! etc
I like G & L guitars better. Dick Dale had better be a part of that showcase! Not only did he create an entire new style of rock & roll, (Surf) but he worked with Leo Fender, helping to develop the Dual Showman amp and the first portable reverb unit. I love the Fender Dick Dale Signature Strat. One other thing, I couldn't help but notice that Rebecca Dirks is quite attractive!
Thank God for PG on YouTube! Great videos, demos, & reviews. A treasure trove of "info-tainment" for guitarists and bassists all there at the click of a mouse!
Thank you guys so much for all your efforts in putting these great videos together. I only wish there were more of them. They always put a smile on my face!
You can make your own Strat? That's so awesome!! Use nothing but Fender Electrical instruments and amps and that would be SOO sick to make one your own. Wow.
Malmsteen is not on theat wall??? I am not a big fan of his but he is one of the few players who I've never seen use anything else. I've seen Hendrix with a Gibson as well Beck. That's kind of crazy....
