Jewel - The New Wild West (Live 2006)

Jewel has a few performances I do truly adore. I hate to admit that all of them except one was considered live. Jewel performed a beta sample of 'Country Girl' from her bedroom in the state of Texas. Her voice was on par with pitch tones higher than usual. Others were from a Live concert from 2008. However, my favourite was a duet with the no other Jessica Simpson. The song was 'Who will save your soul' on the nick and Jessica show.

I like this live version even better than the album version... I've listened to Jewel since I was a teenager and one of the things that I've always loved about her live performances is that you can see the she is truly a gifted and talented singer/songwriter - no editing, no polishing to make her sound different.... and it's amazing.

If anyone remembers the early Janis Ian, you may also see parallels in Jewel. Both consummate poets, powerful voices of social awareness, and memorable performers of the simple voice over guitar. As much as I love Janis, I have to say that Jewel's singing is superior (ever hear her yodel?). And yes, Neil Young should be proud (and he's a helluva singer/songwriter himself, of course!). It doesn't hurt that she grew up in Alaska, either!! It doesn't get wilder or more west than that...
