@fighter4christ7 no xp is calculated on bars used, so addy plates are faster since you use 5 bars instead of 3, makes 99 much faster

just make steel bars, yes its not alot of xp but iv been doing some calculations and if u get 99 smithing from 30 by doing steel bars theres a total of 718mil gp in it, sorry but what other skills do you get 718mil gp from 99?

You can change them. Get 25k from you bank and the gaunts and take them to the guy at the entrance to the Al-Kharid and talk to him.

At 40, you can't use the edgeville furnace.

You at least need 67 i think? and then use the best level booster, to get to 73 for the acheivement diary.

I'm looking for help on getting to a level to get Varrock armour (3) which makes it quite ironic ;) easy slip up to make though ;)

you could also complete the quest '' knights sword''. if you have lv 1 smithing and completed that quest, you will have 29 smith. then train furhter until 30 smithing and make iron warhammers :)

bolts are better and its better to make 1 bar things like bolts because hammer xp bonus is 80% extra for 1 bar meaning mith bolts instead of 50 xp get you 90 xp and u go close to even

Just happens bolts are 5 x slower to make than chests.

Just so people are clear...

You can nearly break even smithing HOWEVER you waste so much time. The time saved smithing things like chest's can be used to make the money lost if not more.
