  • Did they change this theme cause it might of been too creepy

  • 2 and a half weeks? I wonder how he pee'd

  • This is a time before there was virtual reality. Amazing.

  • Always end's up by people or aliens are watching you. It still chills me to the bone.

  • I love it. The military brass are HUMANIZED in this segment. (Frankly, the way I submit most of them are in real life.) Though experiments need to be conducted, especially in that age of "the space race" when we were preparing for space travel, but the superior officers here were portrayed as wise. ( 2:11 mark ). And the main character wasn't a victim, as so many post-Viet Nam films made servicemen out to be. He was ready to put up with this in order to get to the moon.

    Well done, Rod.

  • OH MY GOSH THAT WAS SO AWESOME!!!!

  • Rod (and CBS, for the most part) decided, when this pilot became a weekly series, that Westbrook Van Voohris sounded "too pompous" to continue as narrator. His next choice was Orson Welles, who wanted too much money. Finally, someone said, "Rod, why don't YOU do it?". Serling, who was somewhat of a ham, agreed. To this day, no one can think of "The Twilight Zone" without Rod's voice [and face] attached to it.

  • We'd "get there" (to the moon) ten years later (1969). But it didn't take 2 weeks for the mission, and nobody went nuts, and nobody went by himself.

Westbrook Van Voorhis (narrator) also narrated "The March of Time" weekly newsreels (first in theaters, then later on TV) for many years also.

Note that the town square is the same one as in "Back To The Future". And "Bye Bye Birdie". And a lot of other movies and TV shows.

  • that outro music is chilling

  • Robert Stack played E. Ness

  • I guess in the days before space flight, scifi writers assumed that space traveling would be in isolation. They were partly right. Alan Shepard and John Glenn traveled alone, but Neil and Buzz made it to the the moon together.

  • What's a "simulated" trip to the moon?

  • That's not Rod Serling's voice!

  • mm it sounds a bit like the guy who played eliot ness in that 60's tv show, can't think of his name

  • @oftheguard This original version of the pilot featured narration by Westbrook Van Voorhis. The narrator was replaced by Rod Serling when the show actually aired. Van Voorhis was best known for his narration of Panic! on the NBC network, running from 1957-1958.

  • one of my favourate episodes

  • Filmed at UNIVERSAL INTERNATIONAL STUDIOS.

    produced by CAYUGA PRODUCTIONS INC.

in association with THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK.
