This makes the force transfer much more sudden, meaning the impact of bad alignment will be amplified. The partner's errors are: tilting his head slightly back, pushing forward and down into Shioda, and stepping incorrectly. The demo requires correct alignment, the timing requirements are minimal.
sorry your right you must test your skill against other (non aikido) martial artist all the time. on second thought you don't because if you did you would realize that the martial art only works in application if your as skillful as this guy. you should practice your skills against an unwilling opponent who is fighting back! Until you do that your comments are useless
@1uc3n7 - have you had this technique done to you? - it's all timing - if it's not, even if you're bigger than the guy doing the showing you still are going to feel the shock of his hands hitting your shoulders. Posture and alignment are really important (after all that is what yoshinkan aikido is - proper posture - kamae) but what he does there is all timing. Thanks for your comment -you made me realize what I was missing because I was thinking about this technique exactly like you described it

I wish I could understand more of it! A couple of bits in particular - the goldfish bowl and the car? If they do make a film, make sure it's got english subtitles.
The goldfish are in reference to the way he used to watch them and learnt more about moving from them. They never go backwards and they get close and suddenly move etc.
The car accident shows how he used his hips at the perfect time to deflect the energy of the crash and throw himself clear.

the flips are thought to people so they don't hurt themselves....
in real life aikido looks like a bunch of wrists being broken and more crying...
