  • can anyone tell me the music please

  • Seems like in eastern North Carolina, with perseids and leonid meteor showers, it's always cloudy. While I'm whining, I feel like I lost out on history by never seeing a NASA rocket launch in Florida.

  • @chilimaker2011 even most parts of europe like united kingdom is mostly cloudy but it does clear in the end i only saw 1 lyrid meteor its active from 19th to 26th but peaks on 22nd of april there 2 sets of lyrids april lyrids and june lyrids both radiate from same place near vega

  • I remember seeing this when i was 5.. :)

  • I needed to change my shorts at :52.

  • Shame, that the Leonids only shows up every 33 years. And recently done research it may skip the next two times. I just hope it won't, cuz I really wanna see it.

  • I saw the Leonides once before and during dawn here in PR, like 1997 or 96. It was one of these monster storms. Impressive. Nice video.

  • saw 5 today...most of them near planet Saturn :/

  • nope...i live in prince albert, saskatchewan, canada and we didn't see it until about 4 tueday morning and it lasted until about 6:30. it was pretty cool but my neck got sore and we ran out of weed and beers hahaha!

  • I hope today there will be another chance to see.

  • I almost forgot today is the best day to watch the shooting stars.

    I woke up on 5am, I saw 10++ only : (

Every year in Malaysia, it is hard to see leonids meteor, because of raining season : (

Luckily, today morning the sky was quite clear, so I saw some.

What is the weakness of the meteor is, its' life is too short. Appear only less than a second, just left a short tail image in my eye.

  • Does anyone know when the Northeast US can view this year? News clips give 2 different times: 9pm 11/17, and 3:30 am 11/17. ???

The 2001 Leonids were absolutely amazing! We saw 270 in a 3 hour period. So many different colors too.

  • tonight starting around 2am EST or 11PCT.

  • 4pm ET

  • hey if u were in the sky and plz dont think im stupid i just dont no well anyways if u were in the sky on a plane cud u get hit???? would u die? what are meteors showers i mean i no wat they are but i also dont so pm me and tell me about them plz

  • Most of the shooting stars in the annual Leonid meteor shower are the result of tiny bits of material, the size of sand grains or peas, blown off a comet and wafting through space for centuries. The Leonids are spawned by the comet Tempel-Tuttle. Every 33 years, it rounds the Sun and then goes back to the outer solar system. On each passage across Earth's orbit, Tempel-Tuttle lays down another trail of debris, each in a slightly different location than previous trails.

  • Over time, the debris trails spread out. Each year, Earth passes through different streams, and different parts of the streams, creating bursts of activity and slack periods in the nights surrounding the event's peak.

What you're seeing in the sky is basically small pieces of sand, dirt, and other debris shooting through our solar system at a high velocity. most of the big "meteors" you see are just sand burning up. The huge ones might be bigger debris, but most are small. hope this helped.

  • @Rkocha did u mean every 133 years

  • You know that math phenomenon where something just keeps getting closer to something but never touches? That is the probability of a meteor hitting an in-flight plane. As close as you can get to impossible without touching it. You know that, which is why you said don't think I'm stupid. I don't think you are - you obviously knew the answer.

The odds of a meteor even hitting land (vs h20) is even unlikely of a big enough part. That being said, I don't know the answer. Even if it was sand sized.

  • i just wasnt shure like i dint want people to reply a douchy comment ohh and i think that math procedure would be the pathagrium therums 3

u dont think any 12 yar old wud no that lol

im not a nerd more of joc

  • im pretty sure u cant get hit...meteors enter the atmosphere higher than planes fly and they disintegrate at very high altituds. Meteors are bits of rock and dust from space that come into our atmosphere. metoer showers usually occur when earth travels through debris from comets such as haleys commet. thats why you see tons of meteors in a meteor shower as opposed to any regular night

  • is there any way i can get a copy of this video to download? i'd like to show it to my class of kindergarten students. it is a great compilation.

  • 0:53 So good.

  • What is that at 1:49? looks like DNA.. lol

  • This was around the North American release date of the Nintendo GameCube.

  • yes

  • The 0:53 one is very great, it's tail even is not erased on the sky for a few seconds.

  • this is really magical!having a chance to see a real meteor shower is fantastic.

  • I saw it too last 2002 it was awesome..Ang i really want to see it every year but i havent seen since then..

  • not huge. just closer to the cam

  • I never see meteor shower before..

When will my turns to watch it in live?

  • watch the news they always tell you. inc alifornia its around august

  • My roommates and I watched this on our roof in November 2001. Really splendid. All the students in my campus celebrated that night.

  • 謝謝!!

I remember having organized a small outing for my friends to watch this event, it started on right note, but 10 minutes into Leonid Shower , the weather turned Cloudy and we had to return.

  • A falling star is Short-term but eternal! I will never foget what I saw in 2001! That was really impressive.

  • I see that too in the Philippines on Nov 2001. I was on the rooftop around 2:00 AM at clear zenith. The main 2 meteor showers appear bluish-white and the rests of the streak appear faint yellow. (Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila).

  • I saw a meteor shower on the island of Kyushu in japan in 2000 or 2001 while in the Marines. I wonder if this is it.

  • I believe this is what you saw on the island of Kyushu! Leonids in 2001 at Asia was a big shower!

  • Actually gtspoke, that's not correct. And these definitely are the 2001 Leonids. While the constellation Orion does appear in several of these vidoes, that doesn't make these meteors the Orionids. Each meteor shower has a point in the sky from which the meteors all appear to radiate out in all directions- the "radiant." Showers are named for the constellation in which the point is found. But the meteors radiate out over the entire sky, including thru Orion even though they radiated out from Leo.

  • Your comment is great! Thanks a lot!

  • by the way the way thats not leonids thats the orionids leonids in the constellation leo and orionids is in orion and looks like orion constellation the leonids never boarders orion

  • Trust me, this is the Leonids! Thanks your comment!
