  • I'd just start at the top and fire some people...

  • Where is the rest of this conversation?

  • he he mcnamara was a naughty little scamp

  • This is facsinating hearing these morally reprehensible people running the country talking about American soldiers dying as if they were sticks in a storm. They are so cold about it. Nixon felt a compulsion to tape everything, which shows an obsessive nature--but allows us to peek in on all this craziness.

  • This particular tape doesn't reveal how evil and paranoid this asshole really was. Those of us who saw his arrogance firsthand in that era can understand. Except for his handling of Mao and China, one of the worst Presidents in US history but pales in comparison to George Bush! The absolute worst!

  • It seems to me that many people leaving comments here about Kennedy may have never heard his speech to the press regarding secret societies and the Military-Industrial Complex. In the speech not only does he blatantly lay out key scenarios to look out for in recognizing corruption in government but he also takes responsibility for mistakes that had already been made by himself and his administration. No, Kennedy was no angel but he was damn sure walking on egg shells during his time in office.

  • A good follow up to this is the McNamara film "the Fog of War" where he testifies that JFK orders him to REMOVE our troops from Vietnam after the '64 election and later hear LBJ cancelling those orders. It was the Tonkin Gulf incident which officially started the war in Vietnam and it was a LIE.

  • Nixon should of let the Papers stand without comment. The papers indicated total malfeasance by those idiots Kennedy and Johnson.

  • It just kills me that people thought Ellsberg some kind of hero. I wish Nixon could have found some way to have put that commie bastard up against a wall and shot for treason.

  • @thecuddlemoose Secrecy is the FRIEND of tyranny. The ONLY valid secrets are those that directly affter battlefield operations. The PEOPLE have the right to know what is being done in their name with their money and men.

  • @thecuddlemoose So you rather would of been lied to and not known it by your own government?

  • @RainbowManification

I'd rather have those who leaked classified information and gave direct aid and comfort to the enemy pay for their crimes. We don't get to just decide on our own what laws to adhere to and which ones we won't.

  • @thecuddlemoose Its called integrity, that's how

  • I love how he casually asks "nothing significant in the world today?"

  • So many negative comments of Nixon here and so few of that traitorous SOB, Ellsberg, who really, should have been tried and hung from the gallows.

  • tvvo vvarmonger facist douche bags!

  • 64wulf, this tape was released by the National Archives, so no, it is not by any means fake. Thus far, a couple thousand hours of Nixon's tapes have been released. Check my channel for over a hundred more Nixon tapes conversations.

  • No Nixon was no Hitler by any means. As commander and chief of the armed forces his liberty to issue orders at an executive level were highly scrutinized. The lessons of WWII were fresh in mind of the military leadership. Lost Victories by Field Marshal Eric Von Mantien clearly outlines the failure of the german goverment due to the dictatorship, and not the german army as a whole. Poloticians need to stick to polotics. Military leaders need only to assert the plan of action. yay or ney.

  • This just goes to show how much General Haig is an ass kisser, and sucking up To Hitler, um I mean Nixon. Generals need to stay out of polotics. I'm sure that Field Marshal Eric Von Manstien would have busted him a rank or two if under his command.

  • Alexander Haig was the best clerk who ever served in the Army.

  • Nixon's calm reaction just shows his ignorance as what has just happened. He is completely clueless that the truth, which is that the US government has been lieing through their teeth, has just been exposed.

  • I am really surprised at Nixon's calm reaction to the Pentagon Paper's leak. These tapes make me like the man for some reason.

  • @TheJoester1992 This is the first he's hearing of it. Over the next couple of days, more details about the report came to the attention of the press, and the rollercoaster ride began.

  • The damned study wasn't even Nixons thing in the first place, and he took the heat for it. People still didn't want to believe that JFK was anything but an angel.

  • Unfortunately if you fast-forward 46 years we are dealing with the same scenario with our current President.

  • He took the heat, in my opinion, because he was President at the time they were leaked. People would've railed against whatever administration was there at the time. Also, Nixon's business in Cambodia didn't help people's overall opinion of his Vietnam involvement.

No - because Kennedy lied as much (if not more) to the American people. He screwed like a jack rabbit, hung around with gangsters, and did more harm then people reailize. Remember the Baath party in Iraq, the same party that Saddam Hussein came from. Guess who helped them take power in 1963? Your little angle JFK.

  • @loccysmif

Bulls**t. Nixon never supported Saddam. Neither did Ford or Carter. Our government didn't get cozy with Saddam until Reagan was in office (and even then it was tepid support.) In fact, Carter's work on the peace between Israel and Egypt pissed Iraq off.

The truth is, JFK saw the bloody Ba'ath coup in 1963 as a means to an end - another way to fight communism, just as Nixon saw the Vietnam war. So who's the angel in this? No one. If you don't believe me - check out wikipedia

  • I used to be Haig's secretary...

  • and your Youtube name is challengeauthority, that says something pretty damning about authority then :-)

  • What did Haig say about Nixon in private?

Was Nixon drinking spoken of & did you talk about Nixons desire to "nuke" Vietnam?

  • I hope challengeauthority answers your questions, but I just wanted to suggest that you take Nixon's discussion with Kissinger about nukes with a grain of salt. There are several instances of Nixon toying with Kissinger because he felt Kissinger was overstepping his authority. This could be one of those times. Even if not, Nixon had a habit of saying things that he didn't want implemented. He wrote a memo once commending staffers for using their own judgement whether to follow his orders or not.

  • Isn`t it true that they had to talk a drunk Nixon out of Nuclear attacking Vietnam on four occasions.

  • I haven't heard of that before. What source did you get that from? The only thing I've heard of was a tape where Nixon proposes to Kissinger that they consider the use of nuclear weapons. Kissinger demures that that would just be too excessive, and Nixon replies that he just wanted Kissinger to "think big." This is all I've heard of, except for the possibility that VP Nixon might have supported the use of nukes after the French defeat at Dien Bien Phu in the 50s.

  • To give an example, Colson tells a story about how once Nixon saw Kissinger quietly entering his office from the corner of his eye. Without any rehearsal, Nixon loudly told Colson something like: "I don't know about your plan to use a nuclear weapon against Hanoi, but if we decide to, let's not tell Henry." Of course, Colson had no such plan, but Nixon was playing a game with Kissinger. He even talks about playing games with Henry in this clip: "NIXON TAPES: Economy, Joke on Henry Kissinger."
