  • Itunes won't put this on their "buy" list!

  • GREAT song and slideshow.ROCK ON!!!!!!!

  • My favorite part is Gene Simmons saying "PAIN" :)

  • Alex Van Halen is a beast.

  • i think even van halen was influenced by kiss

  • Comment removed

  • honestly van halen was what you get when you mix pop with a kid who doesn't give a fuck and a lot of booze.

  • BAD ASS version of one of my favorite Van Halen songs. I love it when they are more metal than rock.

  • And isn't the ending the effect used at the beginning of Runnin With the Devil as we know it?

  • Comment removed

  • LISTEN TO THOSE DRUMS! NEVER HEARD ANYTHING LIKE IT!

  • Great Pics! VH back in the day!

  • NICE !!!!!!

  • was this an original rap song by house of pain ya fucking cunts john bonhams drums are brilliant on this though

  • @geoffdoor John Bonham's drums???????????? this is Van Halen!!! It's Alex Van Halen on drums.

  • @PowerMetalEuphonist so its not john bonham then !!! oh right good job you put me right - i thought this is the immigrant song

  • @geoffdoor Nope, Van Halen playing House Of Pain Demo Version. Also look up the album version from the album 1984.

  • FUUUKIN bad ass!!

  • Also look up the awesome live version of this demo!

  • You can see why it didn't make the first album. What the hell was Roth singing a/b? LOL!

    Still, a sick track.

  • THSI IS FUKIN MINT!! AND BETTER THAN THE 1984 VERSION DEFFO!!!!!!

  • This is awesome!

  • Look at Eddie back in the day, I wasn't here in the eighty's, but damn, i wish i was. <3

  • this song is a lot better than the 1984 version and so far one of my favorites of the band... crude and pure rock in this song....

  • No group in the history of Rock ever sang better back up vocals then VH. Go listen to "Dance the night away" and get blown away. Rock on!

  • Gene Simmons is the boss, it seems like everyone has opened for KISS.

  • @vfgjhj Gene Simmons discovered Van Halen, back when they were still calling themselves "Mammoth". Then decided that they had "no chance of making it"? Oh yeah, a reall "boss".

  • @HiiChrissyy He recorded these demos, if he really thought they had no chance of making it he probably wouldn't of helped them out. Gene Simmons is and always has been the boss.

  • @vfgjhj Yeah, but then he totally gave up on them.

  • @HiiChrissyy Where did you learn of this?

  • @HiiChrissyy No, Gene discovered them in '76. they changed the name back in '74, if I'm correct.

  • @vfgjhj True, but when Van Halen opened, the big bad headliner was ALWAYS eclipsed. Hell, they are THE biggest reason Ozzy left Sabbath, and went looking for his own Eddie VanHalen (Randy Rhodes).

  • @vfgjhj Crue did their first tour opening for Kiss...

  • thanks so so much.I love the version on 1984,much better vocal melody but I have always been so curious about this version it's great to finally hear it

  • When I was 13, my brother got a Van Halen Bootleg with this and many others on it. I loved it so much I played it all the time on my walk man. So much the teacher took my walkman with that tape in it. I later went into her desk with a cassette that looked just like the one in it. I left the walkman, but I got my VH Bootleg back.

  • Listening to old Van Halen just fills you up like a nice warm spaghetti dinner. A++

  • Wow. Never heard this before and I have to say I almost prefer it to the 1984 version. Love the mystical lyrics! Roth must have been listening to some Dio during this period in his life!

  • great photos i truely appreciate..!

and the music.. well it speaks for itself...

  • FUKIN BRILLIANY..period.

  • Whenever I hear this version I think of Gene's influence on DLR for the low growl on PAIN.

DLR never did that ever again to the best of my knowledge, just had to Gene's doing.

  • was their first album recieved well? Where were they popular all over Usa or just calif initially?

  • Anyone know how they got that siren type sound???

  • @nerdflanders8710 As on the intro to "Running With The Devil", it's a collection of car horns. Apparently they had them in a box wired up with a battery and a footswitch, and used it in concerts.

  • @skycow2 Ed's Porsche

  • all their studio stuff was commercial bollocks , they are great like this. really raw

  • holy crap, one of my favorite VH songs just got 666 times better.

  • This is awesome, how can I find this version on a record?

  • WOWWWW ! great version, thx!

  • This is your worst nightmare you fuckin vanhaters if you knock my bros from pasadena you will be hung by guitar a guitar string

  • anyone know the lyrics?? I think its"dont button up your coat, you`ll miss the perfect show, theres a full moon tonite ,better watch your soul'

  • Any band's demo captures the full measure of a band's (insert superlative here),and this is a fantastic case in point. The 1984 version was good, but nowhere near as raw.

  • @justdoitasshole yea but this demo version cant be played live. This is actually sped up a bit and quite a few overdubs goin` on .The 1984 version is a new arrangement that could be played live.Have you ever heard a live version of this demo arrangement?? Id luv to hear it.

  • That's it! I'm swapping this version for the one from "1984" in my MP3 collection ... this is WILD! On every level MUCH better ... I can't understand that they didn't remember this one and compared it before releasing "1984" ??? It's the definitive version! \m/ ^..^

  • @aNdYmAtTeR I totally disagree, the 1984 album version is WAY better. The album version features a much more open and raw 'live' sound with a fantastically HUUGE breakdown/solo section- probably one of my fave solos from Eddie!! It's interesting to hear how songs evolve, but this has Gene Simmons schmucky KISS-esque production all over it, not the VH I grew up listening to sorry!!

  • I can just picture Gene telling Dave to hit the low growl on House of PAIN!!

I like this better than the version on 1984, it's a lot dirtier.

  • @GrimDrawings I have no idea what you just said

  • Nice job on the video! I like how you matched the pictures to what was being played throughout the song. Great song, too, thanks for sharing it.

  • THey should have used this version....it kicks f##^$%* ass........this is heavy!!!!!

  • Damn EVH was full of piss and fire when they recorded this!

  • This version kickass !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic version n great post!!!! Why though does it seem alot of demo's are faster?

    Thx 4 sharing.

  • The very end "car horn" sounds a lot like the begining of "Runnin' With The Devil" dont it??!!??

  • @DougErapps On the demo tape this song led right into running with the devil

  • where did you get this? it's awesome!

  • WOW!!!! Root's of VH. Awesome post.

  • the main riff has a huge resemblance to Queen's Stone Cold Crazy, and VH's hot for teacher and light up the sky, and at 0:57, how the fuck do you do that thing from runnin' with the devil i mean what is making that awesome noise?

  • @codyjt5150 police siren!!!

  • wooooooow eddie dfinetelly is the master of the solos but exist somebody that can defeat at eddie, yes ladies and gentleman im talkin' about Jimi Hendrix

  • @jhonnyrest Jimi was the master but Eddie is the god

  • @VanHalen941 Eddie created the taping so yes maybe you're right, but hendrix for me was the guitarrist number 1

    lml

  • 0:55 The Start Of Screaming Was David Lee Roth!!!

  • WOW This made my year! FUCK YEAH!

  • No matter how much u despise him without ole geno we may not have had a Van Halen.

Sures he's an ahole but he knowz good muzik yes Gene Simmons from Kiss discovered many great bands love ya Gene even tho ur a conceited dick about kiss getoff that shit everyone knows VH is the BEST tho u discovered them Eddie 4ever!!

  • that sounds exactly like "Thin Lizzy" :)

  • much better ... no, ***MUCH*** better than the 1984 version!!!

  • this sounds so much like queen's stone cold crazy. you can hear it in hot for teacher also

  • I like this version WAAAAAYYYYYY better than the studio version they released. . . this one wails - the studio version, not so much. . .

If there was a God, he'd be Dutch and play a red & white guitar. . .

  • This just kicked my ass. Nice post, first thing in the mornin' for me to view.

  • eds old Marshalls Never sounded HighGain.Thats what he uses now.If you listen to old Van HAlen its actually more clean then HiGAin

  • I hope to sweet baby Jesus Eddie goes back to that old high gain Marshall sound on the new album.

  • These are just the greatest ever. Thanks so much for posting this.

  • fuckn slammin

  • i reckon eddie's guitar has a very jeff beck feel to it...

  • this version is really different. it kicks fkn ass in a whole new way!!!

  • This is an amazing version

  • I think I actually like this version better than the album version. The harmonies on here are some of the best I have heard from Van Halen.

    Best wishes,

    Dr. Ryles

  • kick ass

  • The cleanest version of this song in on a boot cd called "Dressed to kill".

The whole cd is one track long.

Had it many many years ago, if anyone has it please contact me.

Id like a copy of it.

  • all i can say, besides eruption., listen to vh debut., and listen to zep debut., 10 yrs before., no fucking comparison !! GET THE FUKING LED OUT !!!

  • This might be a bad comparison, but choosing between Van Halen and Led Zeppelin for me is like trying to decide if you want to bang the hot blond girl with the huge rack or the hot brunette girl with the bodacious ass....you really can't go wrong either way, although some people prefer tits to ass, and vice-versa. Van Halen and Led Zeppelin or great for similar but mostly different reasons. I love them both!!!

  • well said.

  • Right on!! perfect explanation!!!

  • @Willingham420 which band is the blond? ;D

  • @Willingham420 Interesting thoughts. I feel like VH is a direct descendant of LZ. Just modernize the chops for guitar, add a bass drum, subtract some subtlety for Al, make JPJ a normal bass player (not a multi instrumental guru), make Plant more masculine and you have it. Eddie has said his favorite guitarist was always Clapton, but he plays more like Page. Bonzo and Alex have the exact same snare sound as well, a sound I've been trying to duplicate for 20 years.

  • @Willingham420 You should review bands for a living! LOL

  • @Willingham420 one of the best analogies i've ever heard hahaha

  • @Willingham420 well obviously the answer is quite clear - take both girls home and have a party!

  • @Willingham420 fuck off with your stupid analogy fucking dick head

  • DAMMIT this brings back the good old memories of the early 80's, getting drunk listening to VH cranked up loud. You kids today don't know the meaning of awesome party music. RAP SUCKS. VH made it feel like summertime at the beach in the middle of winter - LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE HERE TONIGHT AHAAAAAHAHA!

  • I wouldn't go as far as saying that. Im 29 and I remember from the age of 4 what the Van Halen Jump video was and when I was 16 I got made fun of a bit for having Van Halen being my favorite band of all time, but there are some young people that love this shit. And todays music does suck as a whole

  • I'll correct myself, I was feeling nostalgic. You gotta understand Jump was Eddie's keyboard piece, they sold out, but people always like the older stuff, talk to a Metallica fan. I remember when kids were made fun of in the late 1970's caused they still liked Kiss - I didn't like them as much, they were REAL commercial by then, lunch boxes and crap, but I still like some of their stuff even today. Except when they went disco - that was AWFUL

  • I don't think Hagar sucks.I think he was great on his own.I think that HSAS,the band Hagar had with Neal Schon was fuckin' baddass!

I don't think Hagar ever even needed Van Halen.I don't think he needs them now.

That being said, ROTH & THE BROTHERS CERTAINLY NEED EACH OTHER! VAN HALEN & ROTH BELONG TOGETHER!

Van Hagar has NOT stood the test of time...and I am still diggin' on all of the 1st 6 records like they were recorded yesterday.Welcome home Dave.We missed you.Sorry Wolf--Come back Mike!

  • @Guitfiddlejase , u gut stereo ??? lol., zepp 1 ., vh 1., or van hagar 5150 ., 1 sorry dave !!! one 10 yrs before u, the other 10 yrs after., n both wipe yo ass !!!!

  • @Guitfiddlejase why mike with sammy., ??? cause the vh bro's are fukkkkked uppp!, and a shame., eddie is a ., is eddie greatest, but fuked up

  • Got that right narly151!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THEY WERE SO F-ING GOOD WHEN THEY 1ST TOURED THEY STARTED THEIR SLOW DOWNSLIDE AFTER THE 1ST 2 OR 3 LP's.

  • You're right. Back then, Van Halen was hungry, Eddie was hungry and it showed. Women and Children was soft, but Fair Warning was off the hook. Diver Down I didn't even buy (for obvious reasons), but 1984 redeemed the band. After Hagar joined, VH found a soft cozy nest by offering easy listening music that worked for them. They found their easy chair, and rocked it. lol If VH doesn't redeem themselves once again, I will have to retire them and listen to their old stuff. Again.

  • joeglimmix : YOU suck bone, you fag. The albums they recorded with Dave are the best VH music ever recorded. Go fuck yourself, loser.

  • Fkn A brother early Halen ruled

  • yeah well i love tommy lee he was the best drummer in the world

  • This is way better than what they released with.

  • check it out...most of the DLR fans talk about how DLR move around the stage.....hee hee, like how some lead singer moves around matters (major homos)....HAGAR is the best VH singer...DLR sucks massive bone

  • David Lee Roth was the perfect front man for Van Halen. Sammy Hagar could never be as cool....

  • Fricken GREAT demo!!! I would have loved to have seen them before they hit the big time while still back in LA.

  • That is Bad-Ass!!!!!

  • Absolutely the real VH, I know this version well from their 1976 gigs. The lyrics here at the beginning are a bit different than the live version. The band started to change their sound around this time. Eddie's overdubs are a bit overdone- none of those parts were played live- and Dave is also overdoing it. But make no mistake, this is Dave singing.

  • @jonsilence Hey Jon, but I have plenty of live versions of this song from the Club Days and EVH always throws in licks throughout the song. Even the WB Demo version he still throws in licks between the main parts. You have to admit the overdubs on here are "sick"!

  • roth 100% sure man

  • Endroit d'ecouter

  • Look for Zero.

  • Can anyone find this fucking demo? All I see are FLAC torrents that are half dead. the Demo Daze disc does NOT have this version.

  • Nevermind, found the demo set in mp3 format. PM me if you want it

  • I don;t give as shit if he's a jew, it's just weird I expect him to walk around saying goy or oi or whatever, they are not known for being rebellious and loud .

there's nothing wrong with being a fikking Juden.

  • this is the real true gene simmons demos ? if so how fucking cool. i dig this version better than 1984. both rule but i like this one better. all those solos all the fuck over the place. and the siren gives me goose bumps. brilliant pure and simple.

  • bad ass wow so different.

  • this is my favorite Van Halen song "House of Pain".

  • cool, house of pain is one of my favorite vh tunes. this kicks ass too.

  • THOSE were 'GOOD TIMES'!!!! WHERE the FUCK did they all go???!!!!!!!

  • They went down the drain with Ed's drinking. Sad to say =(

  • FUCK LOOK AT Alex's 4 bass drums surrounding him.VISIONS & SOUND & THE HAIR & OPEN SHIRTS ,LEATHER&STUDS ,FUCKEN HELL CAN THEY get anymore METAL!!!

  • iS David lee roth jewish?

  • who cares???? Wish every jew was like him. His name yes. Hagar is a jew but his shit. ROTH best frontman, singer, showman. ROTH RULEZ FUCKERZ

  • i never said there was anyhting wrong being jewish allah akabar.i just wanted to know,

if he is well hes not like most jews. neither is hagar.

  • Roth stopped being a decent front man 20 years ago when he lost his voice. He also doesn't move around on stage anymore.

    Hagar still kicks ass.

  • Hagar sucks ass. You expect a 55 year old guy to be jumping around onstage like a peacock on fire as he did when he was 28? Get a grip. Hagar has never moved around onstage other than looking like he's got mexican jumping beans in his yellow spandex pants. Hagar will forever be in Roth's shadow and he knows it. That's why he can't let it go. Thanks for the memories, Spammy, but I'll leave Why Can't This Be Cheese and How Do I Know When It's Cheese in the bargain bin.

  • He's almost 61, dude...........lmao

  • Roth is 55, born in 1954

  • Hagar Sucks Cock.David Lee Roth Is A Rock God,End Of Story.

  • I have to admit that DLR is bigger than life itself when he's fronting VH, but he's a big nobody outside of VH. He's proved that. Hagar joined the band to fatten his own resume, and I will admit that Hagar was much more than himself while with VH. Outside VH, Hagar is another B rated act pulling in mediocre crowds, while still singing VH tunes with 2nd rate musicians. Cherone I ain't even gonna touch, it's too embarrassing. Lets wait for the new album, then we can really judge them.

  • @DanKiwi your an ass hole

  • @DanKiwi u roth fans r fuked up

proof's in the pudding., hit a fukin' note dave !!

  • yes he is a jew.

  • Yes he is Jewish...his last name is Rothstien.

  • stop talking shit .

  • I speak truth..if truth is shit...just bring some toilet paper bro.

  • lol

  • Can't get enuff of this song!this band is the icing on the cake!Pure brilliance, not to mention the demon king himself the legendary MR Simmons, the guy is the EINSTEIN of METAL,every thing he touches turns to gold!@#LOVE HIS DEATH metal voice ha!ha!ha!.Another great band he discovered was the ever awesome mighty SILENT RAGE.A GIGANTIC toast to ROTH HALEN & the demon GOD SIMMONS we salute you all!!

  • Awesome! Where did you get this? Thanks for posting!

  • FUCKIN' HELL!$%@this song is fuckin unreal man!So so heavy ,better than the later house....They should release all this classic demo shit ,fuckin' not fair. All the ROTH era are just full of great surprises. This version is POWER METAL ,VAN HALEN pioneers of everything!!!!

  • The very end of this is the beginning sound effect to Running with the Devil...car horn slowed down I think.

  • YEAH IN REVERSE

  • 2:46 to 2:49 <------- chills

  • This is a badass version. It's funky..

    Love the beginning.

  • Cool to hear this version! Doesn't stack up to VHs 1984 version tho' IMHO... =)

  • no it doesnt, this is 1000% better

  • mr. scary sounds a whole lot like this

  • forget mr. scary. listen to stone cold crazy by queen. it's the exact same thing. but i like this better because it has better solos.

  • Hate to say it, but Simmons butchered that IMO.

  • I love David Lee Roth! What a voice! The Best!

  • i hate that pic of them at 2:15 roth looks like a cookie monster

  • Dave even throws in the Cookie Monster , oh so ahead of the times.

    How about that Chickenfoot...?

  • Yes I'm an ass...

"Stone Cold Crazy " is the Queen song being ripped off here.

"Sheer Heart Attack " was the b side.

  • You're right, the verse is similar to Stone Cold Crazy, but I still prefere this song.

Van Halen and Queen are my two favourite bands, but this song is 1000 better than Stone Cold Crazy, even if the riff was already played by Queen

  • man your high as a horse fly theres no comparing geez dude i want some of whatever your takin wooo hooo!!!

  • Check out Queens "Sheer Heart Attack" ....

Yeah,VH"s got some balls to release ( not this version, but the b side ) as big a bite as this.

  • this has a definite KISS sound

  • love this version!

except for the gene simmons growl.

but the 1984 version is fucking

    badass! eddie is the man!

  • penis at 0:03

  • what a voice...he was the best rock screamer! LOVE his voice! The band rocks.

  • Better than Paramore!!!

  • better than anything ;)

  • verses remind of atomic punk. this version is pretty wild.

  • If it werent for Ted templeman, Van halen would have been the first heavy metal band of the 70's
