I'll be staying in Fargo, North Dakota for a few weeks around February. As a person of non-European descent, will I be welcomed or tolerated by the locals? Also, how bad is the cold during this time of year?
@lendial Usually it's cold as fuck right now but this has been an insanely mild winter, it shouldn't get below 0. If you expect a "WE DON'T LIKE YeR KIND 'ROUND HUR" you'll be disappointed. My best friend in middle school was a muslim from Turkey. It's mostly white people but it's not like there's no other races here.

@TheAerosmither Have you ever even been here? There are a lot of people! We just are better organized. There are cities and there are empty areas. Lots of cars, lots of buildings, but not too much noise. It's smaller than, say, NYC or Chicago or something, but it's not that small....

Dakota is just so opposite from "Big City East Coast," that it has its very own charm. Check out the center of America, the Bison, and the Indian reservations. PS- visit during summer months like July/August

Seeing that plow reminds me of a snow storm I got caught in between Culbertson MT. and Williston ND. on Highway 2. The storm knocked down the power poles for miles! I'm going to say it was about the year 2000.

Well, I'm a Californian who live in your state in the mid 70s, and lived to tell about it. There was a blizzard that hit, I think in '76, and it was 60 below for 3 days. With the wind chill, it was 100 below. So when it gets a little chilly here, 32 or so, I tell these sissys here, they ain't seen shit.
There's a reason ND is the best place to live. We don't have people like New Yorkers or Californians living here. They would just mess everything up, doncha know?

Hmmm...that's easy, because it reaches -50 degrees here, it floods, the winters here are 200 days of the year, not much to do except hunt, ice fish (if that's your thing). North Dakota isn't cold, it's brutally sub-zero!!!

Okay, this was funny, but that reporter needs to stay off the roads, it looks like it was storming out. Yes, ND small towns, some, can be very desolate. But I live in Fargo, ND, and trust me, it is not desolate at all. As a matter of fact, Fargo has been growing quite rapidly, especially the south side. I don't know why ND gets made fun of, but we do. If we had a lot of murders and crime, would that make us a cool place to live then???? Well, we don't, and thank god for that!!!
Fargo is a great place to live, except for the weather extremes. The people are great and there is actually pretty good diversity among races and cultures. I have Somalian friends, Bosnian friends, Russian friends, and African American friends. We are not rednecks, the urban areas are actually quite the opposite. That is why Fargo was rated one of the top ten cities in the US to live in as far as economy, families, and colleges. We are also much more technologically advance than most cities too.
The editing in the video did North Dakota no justice at all. The state isn't nearly as exciting as they made it out to be. But then again I'm currently living in a part of Iowa that the only claims to fame is: The bridges of Madison county (not impressive at all) and the birthplace of John Wayne (also not impressive).
I'm a born and raised farm girl from North Dakota and l laughed so hard watching this video because it is so true... not many people visit here and that's just part of the charm, it is like our own little secret, how beautiful the state is and more importantly, how beautiful the people are. I lived there for like 10 months about 30 years ago as an exchange student and it was such a great experience!!
People were and are so nice and I just loved the wide open beautiful places!!
I love where I live, Tokyo so much but I miss North Dakota very much, too!!

North Dakota is the richest state in the union with a profit. Not in the red at all and has the only State owned Bank in the US ,profits roll into it for a rainning day and help out the local banks there and give Tax breaks with the profits made. No barrowing out side the state. I tell you those people got thier shit straight.Yes winters are the coldest but in the Summer it gets hot its not cold year around don't be fooled I never been there. I do read up on stuff like that and the weather too.

Seeing that plow reminds me of a snow storm I got caught in between Culbertson MT. and Williston ND. on Highway 2. The storm knocked down the power poles for miles! I'm going to say it was about the year 2000.

Well, I'm a Californian who live in your state in the mid 70s, and lived to tell about it. There was a blizzard that hit, I think in '76, and it was 60 below for 3 days. With the wind chill, it was 100 below. So when it gets a little chilly here, 32 or so, I tell these sissys here, they ain't seen shit.

And believe it or not, I spent 18 months in ND.
I had the opportunity to go to NYC, Chicago ... But I thought it would be more interesting to go somewhere I wouldn't be able to go after.
North Dakota.
Ok, it's cold, it's flat, it's windy.
But I love it over there. It was a radical change in my life. Different people, different opinions, different way of life.

So, you guys do realize you're fighting about how lame a state is on a youtube comment page, right? Yes, I am North Dakotan, and yes, it gets pretty crappy here. It's cold, yet people still feel the need to speed and drive into ditches when it's blizzarding, it's polluted, literally everyone is a republican, (not that I have anything against republicans) and did I mention it's cold, almost year-round, and when it isn't cold, it usually gets really hot. Hmmm...that's easy, because it reaches -50 degrees here, it floods, the winters here are 200 days of the year, not much to do except hunt, ice fish (if that's your thing). North Dakota isn't cold, it's brutally sub-zero!!!

Funny vid really. No one comes here because there isnt much to do unless you live here. But we have great helpful people, a lots to do outside because of the open spaces, and oh ya a 1 billion dollar surplus. ND needs to buy the VIKES!! And lets not be haters here people, Fargo is the only major metropolitan in ND. Saying Fargo isnt ND is like saying Minneapolis inst MN.

Okay, this was funny, but that reporter needs to stay off the roads, it looks like it was storming out. Yes, ND small towns, some, can be very desolate. But I live in Fargo, ND, and trust me, it is not desolate at all. As a matter of fact, Fargo has been growing quite rapidly, especially the south side. I don't know why ND gets made fun of, but we do. If we had a lot of murders and crime, would that make us a cool place to live then???? Well, we don't, and thank god for that!!!

Fargo is a great place to live, except for the weather extremes. The people are great and there is actually pretty good diversity among races and cultures. I have Somalian friends, Bosnian friends, Russian friends, and African American friends. We are not rednecks, the urban areas are actually quite the opposite. That is why Fargo was rated one of the top ten cities in the US to live in as far as economy, families, and colleges. We are also much more technologically advance than most cities too.

The editing in the video did North Dakota no justice at all. The state isn't nearly as exciting as they made it out to be. But then again I'm currently living in a part of Iowa that the only claims to fame is: The bridges of Madison county (not impressive at all) and the birthplace of John Wayne (also not impressive).

I'm a born and raised farm girl from North Dakota and l laughed so hard watching this video because it is so true... not many people visit here and that's just part of the charm, it is like our own little secret, how beautiful the state is and more importantly, how beautiful the people are. A good sence of humor is necessary to live here and if you are wimpy, don't even try it, you must be tough... you know what they say.... 20 degress below zero keeps the scum bags out :)
