  • Elvis Costello playing mountain music in a grey suit wearing a blood red fedora BACKWARDS = ?

  • This is song is missing one very important thing, Alison Krauss' voice. Nobody can sing this like her!

  • oy. This is like a soup made of awesome things that don't go together, the product is worse than the ingredients.

  • I used this song on my new mix

You can hear it here mixcloud(dot)com/NTT/scarlet-city-side-i/ mixcloud(dot)com/NTT/scarlet-city-side-ii/

  • Yuck. Sounds like a bag of cats when they all get going. And Renee Fleming? Really? Good lord, who thought this was a good idea?

  • I am in the minority, but I love this version. It sounds like the singing I heard when I was growing up in the mountains. The other versions are much more polished and 'sound better', but I really enjoy this version of the song. The prettier versions are just that ... prettier. This shows me much more emotion than Alison's version does, even though I love her versions. This sounds much more 'old timey' for those of us who have heard true mountain music. Thank you for posting this beautiful song.

  • I think the sound engineer is the one who screwed this up.

  • Just one word: grrrrrreat!

  • I love all of them, and this song is amazing. But they do not sing well together. The separate sections are super but somehow all this awesome talent just doesn't harmonize well. (The rest of the show is spectacular!)

  • wow everybody wants the lead ....hack job on this song

  • I love Rufus. I love Renee. But this is not working for me. At all. Once they all starting singing together I had to press stop.

  • I do love Rufus...I mean I adore him....and Elvis...but this version...mmmm.....not so much.

It's true - the Alison Kraus version is much MUCH better. Maybe they just had a bad night.

  • i didn't really appreciate kate's creepy voice and her BANJO. dear god.

  • I think this is a sign of the end of times...

  • @pweny There is a frightening blindness here to no standards for relating to eachother as parts of an ensemble and everyone indulging in self -gratification at the expense of the music.

  • Absolutely butchered this song!! Elvis was probably about to break the neck off of his guitar listening to his masterpiece being slaughtered! Please listen to EC himself or Allison Kraus' version to savor the beauty of this song!

  • Really nice! I never thought that I would see Rufus and Renée singing together one day! hahaha

  • o my! I love Rufus Wainwright, and absolutely love Renee Fleming. And this song is one of my favorites. Amazing.

  • So does Rufus...

  • Renee Fleming rips your heart out.
