I think that "The Longest Day" was one of the greatest World War II films of all time and it was one of my favorite films as well. I think that all of Hitler's military commanders were better leaders with more combat experience and were better experienced at leading their troops into battle. I also think that they were patriots and heroes who risked their lives when they chose to join the plot to kill Hitler realizing that they would be executed if their roles in the conspiracy were exposed.
Ever consider what would have happened if the German Military took orders from the likes of Marcks,Von Manstein,Rommel,Hoth,Von Rundstedt,Kesserling, instead of Hitler?
@IJNAkagi1942 Yes I have considered it. The war would have taken up to two more years to win. The allied giant would have been slowed down; but not beaten. As in WW1, Germany was starving for food, men and materiel. Even more death and destruction if atomic weapons were used in late '45 or '46.
Yes unfortunately he died only six days after the invasion of a heart attack. And he was the only German officer from the General Staff that forecasted if you can use that word the exact place where the landings would take place. In Normandy and not Pas de Calais.
The actor playing Marcks would play Col. General Jodl, Hitler's chief of staff in six years later in PATTON.

russia would have been annihilated if hitller would
have let Manstein control the Wehrmacht with out interference.
the book LOST VICTORIES tells of what victories Germany missed out
on that lost them the war. Hitler lost germany the war! Racism is pretty much
what lost hitler the war! most people were happy to be liberated by the
germans and would have fought with them. but hitler started killing jews
and slavs! the slavic people would have fought for the germans and the poles to

General Marcks died six days after his birthday -- during an Allied air attack.
