he didnt retire he still wanted to come back and play and said he wouldve taken a pinch hitter, bench spot, but the yanks wouldnt give him a gauranteed roster spot and said he could compete for a job in their non invitee training camp, and he declined. Very SAD

bernie kinda dissappeared from the game real fast. i don't ever remember him officially retiring. but i still say he is one of the all-time yankee greats!!
