An example of "going to war" was the unannounced attack of Japan on Pearl Harbor, Hitler's attack on Stalin, or Israel's attack of Egypt in 1967, Bush on Saddam, etc. In these cases the war started with dropping bombs, not delivering a declaration. In 1939 BR and FR delivered a piece of paper called "war".

However I agree the French tactics of static warfare were no match for the German tactics of movement, this and as you say the poor leadership from the government led to the defeat. It seems our retrospective look at WW2 comes to the conclusion that the French were "weak" or "stupid", this is not the case at all, the defeat was bizarre at the time.

@martynrobin121 The Germans deffinately did not outnumber the Allied forces 2-1. It was roughly equal with around 3 million on each side. Also the Italians attacking did not open a new front, it was an attack on the French eastern side. A new front would mean an attack from somewhere like Spain.

An example of "going to war" was the unannounced attack of Japan on Pearl Harbor, Hitler's attack on Stalin, or Israel's attack of Egypt in 1967, Bush on Saddam, etc. In these cases the war started with dropping bombs, not delivering a declaration. In 1939 BR and FR delivered a piece of paper called "war".

@martynrobin121 The French had around 1000 more tanks than the Germans and the Italian invasion had little effect on the outcome. However I agree the French tactics of static warfare were no match for the German tactics of movement, this and as you say the poor leadership from the government led to the defeat. It seems our retrospective look at WW2 comes to the conclusion that the French were "weak" or "stupid", this is not the case at all, the defeat was bizarre at the time.

And after the Italian invasion the French were fighting on 2 fronts. And France was doomed from the start they didnt have a clue, Blitzreig wiped them out.

@martynrobin121 The Germans deffinately did not outnumber the Allied forces 2-1. It was roughly equal with around 3 million on each side. Also the Italians attacking did not open a new front, it was an attack on the French eastern side. A new front would mean an attack from somewhere like Spain.

@Mattstation The Germans had 5,638 Aircraft in the Battle of France, The B.E.F and France had 2,935. The Luftwaffe had full control over the Air, Whitch was the main part in Blitzreig. The Italians didnt make such an Impact but they added to the pressure on France. And fighting the other British forces in N.Africa,Mid-east. The French were doomed to the be defeated before the battle had even started, Due to poor communication,tactics and not been able to use Tanks,Airforce in modern ways.

But we never accepted that as a rightful possession. It was a de facto possession that we could not change by force, but it was not de jure; and now it is all gone, just as Truman had predicted in his parting speech as President. He said he did not know how it would happen, but he knew that Communism would in the end collapse.

You grabbed them when the great powers were concerned about the Bolsheviks in power in Russia. It was inevitable that Russians would take them back. After the war both Britain and USA got busy with glorifying their war exploits - even tough it was the Soviet Union who payed with more than 25 million lives to push back the nazi offenisive. In contrast USA lost barely half a million soldiers. The sacrifice of all the occupied nations and the sacrifice of simple people of the USSR (not judgind the regime now) was overshadowed by braggarts - UK and the USA in some cased even openly denying other nations the glory for what they did.

All that was done BEHIND the back of Polish Government In Exile and all other ambassadors coming from the countries to be sold to Stalin. FDR was so fucking inane as to not even engage in the thought of facing any of those officials to tell them the truth and made Churchill his postboy responsible for that. Churchill on the other hand - a drunkard coward that he was, never had the courage or civility to face any polish official with the truth untill Molotow did it for him in Moscow in 1944.

FDR and Churchill where two timing honourless maggots - they sold Poland to the Soviet Union during the Tehran conference - and consented to the USSR setting up puppet communist government in Poland. They condemed all of eastern europe to 50 years of comunism just to keep Stalin and the Soviet Union in play so that USSR would bare most of the burden of the war and you say we shoud be grateful ? Poland was THE ONLY country invaded and occupied by the nazis during the WWII which NEVER developed a government cooperating with the nazi germany. So stfu fucktard and back to school. Britains choice was different however - either let Stalin have eastern europe and let him bare the most burden of the war (cassualties, economy) by selling millions of eastern european people to a murderous regeime or put in serious effort of their own which would result in more ally casualties and more expenses. So in the end dude - Britain and the USA sold eastern europe along with poland to save ... money.

All they where risking you moron - was Uncle Joe withdrawing from the war which would have dire conseqences for the allies in terms of how much they would have to increase their war efforts - and england was in fucking tatters economically at that time.

@Luk81asz No, YOU need to *learn* some geography and history (along with some English). You were attacked by Germany and Liberated by the Soviet Union, but most of the fighting on the Western Front took place in France, not in Poland. Killing a Nazi anywhere helped Poland, were it in Dieppe or in Stalingrad.

@maxrocks1 On August 25, two days after the Nazi-Soviet Pact, the Polish-British Common Defence Pact was signed; 1 September 1939 Nazi Germany attacked Poland;17 September 1939 Soviet Union attacked Poland; 22 September 1939 German–Soviet military parade in Brest-Litovsk . The whole efort from France and Great Britain to help Poland was called in Germany "Sitzkrieg"("the sitting war") becouse so called "allies" wasnt attacking at all. In Yalta they betrayed us again. Bunch of traitors.

@maxrocks1 USSR attacked Poland 16 days after Germans, it was part of Ribentrop-Molotov pact. They were killing us all the time from that moment, they stoped only when Germans attacked them... so acording to your brainless logic German was saving us? Gratitude for what? Your country didnt do anything from what he promised on paper. No one came here to help as they promised and they were all siting behind Maginot Line thats why Germans was caling this "effort" Sitzkrieg(the sitting war).

@maxrocks1 Polish soldiers showed their gratitude by defending England, storming Monte Casino where a handful of Nazi paratroopers held the entire british army, landed in France from where the Brits where thrown out with their tails between the legs... dont talk to Poles without respect just because it is a smaller country with a really bad geographic position.

Polish troops have to move back to centre of country whit out fighting at all or they would be destroyed whit much less force than was needed by doing it from front. And they did that also becouse they got your promise that you gona imedialy attack them from other side. And that would end WW2 in year 1939...

"Other nations", like Poland, were fighting. If Brits and French had a little more courage and brains, attacking Germany in 1939 would have been more productive than waiting until Hitler recovers his panzers from Polish campaign and reloads...

@SillyGrandpa Let's be frank, the Soviets weren't as bad as the Nazis. They killed many thousands of poles but not millions. And the allies were outnumbered 20 to 1 at this point so a declaration of war would've just led to Western Europe going to the Soviets and to millions of deaths.

Brits were thrown out from the continent never to return as an independent military power.The British Empire lost the war, and it does not exist today, it is a small overpopulated island nation. Poland still exists, although nobody cares: Polish football sucks.
