Just so you know, if I took to long to comment. It's because I got lost in the music and sort of forgot where I was and what I was doing. Great song man!
Yea dude, great improve, I'm hoping to get the x50 soon!! I'll start working on the dorian scale some, it obviously works seeing this!! I have mastered the blues scale so all my improve is starting to sound the same. Keep playin dude, you got it for sure
hey man, do me a favor and answer this question for me? i REALLY would love to know what scale your playing up and down, and if your not using one, how would you solo like that? PLEASE let me know
I've already been asked this via mail, so I'll copy my answer here for everyone to see:
I mostly improvise over scales. In the video I improvise over dorian scales. But it's also often a mix of the dorian scale with pentatonic or the Blues scale (with the blue notes).
The most important is the ear though. Sometimes I also like to play out, that's to say if you have a piece in A minor, just play for 2 or 3 bars the Ab major scale just to return to the A minor scale. Or practice some licks which you can transpose and/or use like sequences.
To be able to improvise, you have to absolutely know how the chords are built. Let's say you decide to play something in A minor, you have to know that the notes are basically A C E. The seventh is G and the ninth is B. Those notes make it funky and jazzy. Then you have to know a bit about functional harmony, for example that the dominant in the key of A is then E, played E G# B. Here you can use the seventh too.
So, knowing what chords fit to the key you want to play in, is the first step. Then you have to know the scales which can fit a specific chord. For minor chords you can for example use pentatonics, A minor harmonic or melodic, or, as I said before, dorian, the church modes. With a major chord you have to change the scale then. For E major chord, you have to play f.ex. E major scale.
When the seventh is played you should then alter the scale, that's to say, play the minor seventh when improvising. This scale is the same as the church mode which is called mixolydian.
Hope this can help. If you have further questions, ask :)
i've been trying to make the decision of what entry level synth i should get for a while. i play piano and record hip hop beats; and there are so many different synths to choose from. i had already settled on the x50, but you really helped me make it.
i have. i was going to get it initially, because it has a TON of great features. then i got the mpd32 and the mpk became much less inciting. now i'm looking for a SYNTH, and if i'm not mistaken the mpk is just a midi controller...but, i could be wrong.
Hi! You may also try the Roland Juno Stage. It's not bad and has good stage functionalities but I do not like the sound as much as the Korg sounds ...
Hi! On this video the sound comes from JBL speakers with a subwoofer. (The little system in white which looks like a starship ;-) But i recorded the video with my Canon A-80 camera, so the sound is not so good ...
Hey man nice playing! How do you like the rhodes sound with this piano? I am looking to buy a keyboard but I am tryign to find one with a nice crisp rhodes sound....
Hi! When you're only looking for a good Rhodes-Sound, don't buy the Korg X-50. The X-50 is very good regarding Synth-Sounds, Pads, Leads etc. For a good Rhodes-Sound I'd suggest to take a look at the Clavia Nord Stage.
How do you compare (forgeting the number of keys) the X50 and the Korg Micro X? Its to be used with a portable system based on a MBox Mini and a laptop. Thank you.
Hi! Don't know the MicroKorg but read about it and it seems to have cool sounds. Go to the store and try them both. I'm sure one of them will be yours ;-)
Depends on your taste. I would prefer the Korg. Last week I've played a bit around with the new Roland Juno Stage. The concept is cool, yet the sound, I'm not satisfied with, but I gotta say that I'm not a fan of the Roland sound, especially padsounds and leadsounds, Korg is ahead in my opionion. But I suggest you go to the music store and play around with both and then decide. Cheers
Probably depends on what you wanna do. Intuitively I'd say the Korg. But this may be because I'm not a fan Rolandsounds as I mentioned below. So best thing to do: Go to the store and try them out :-)
I began in 1986. But I stopped for some years in the 90s, then continued with jazz piano ... but I'm really lazy and don't rehearse for myself very often ;-) ... could have done more though ...
Hi! Thanks. It's just improvised over some easy chords. Rehearse your pentatonic scales and the dorian scale and here you go ;-) Glad that you had fun watching.
Hi! I think the X-50 fits more your needs. When I looked around for a synth, I also had the MM6 on my list. But at this stage you might perhaps also want to look at Rolands Juno-Stage. Makes a very good impression to me.
I totally agree with siuloong78 about the keys. I use it too as a 2nd keyboard, beside my Yamaha Motif ES. The best thing about the korg x50 are his lead sounds, out of the box (or edited, even better :)). Regarding the price of the synth, it's one of the best synths which are on the market these days!
Well the people are right. The keys are not first-class, but they are ok. Nevertheless they can always break. Last weekend I broke a key of my Kawai MP4 and that one is a weighted keyboard ...
Thanks! Yeah, I'm really satisfied with the X-50. I use it as 2nd keyboard with my stagepiano Kawai MP4 and it works great. I use it above all for the warm pads and lead synth sounds. It's really handy for transport and it's not expensive.
how are the keys on this keyboard. How heavy are they to feel the velocity?
