I went on Thirteen for the 2011 scarefest, they had the girl from the advert waiting when you came out of the ride, she was around a corner, and they had two hooded men who jumped at random people, one by the girl, the other outside the gift shop. I was targeted by the one by the shop because all my friends left and I was browsing :(
I'm sorry but this ride wasn't a 'scary' ride, the one good part was the drop, don't get me wrong it was worth the ride, but it is not what the adverts make it out to be, I was disappointed

I reckon all this age restriction and combination of emotion and physical fear is all bollocks. It's just a publicity stunt. I know this because the ride received mostly negative. Due to it just not being scary enough

I was on this monday the 4th and tuesday the 5th of October went on this about 15 times my 10year old brother loved it i liked it aswell we was queing only 5mins to get on this ride, Alton Towers wasnt busy and we had lovley weather <3 (:
haha lol when i went the ride broke down so when they managed to get it working again there was no queue.
if i had to queue for like 2 hours i would have said it wasnt worth it, but - I DIDN'T so basically if your there and the ride breaks down buy a bag of chips from the rita shop and sit on the logs by the enterance and then when they say its working again leg it to the fron of the queue !! :)

this ride is fuckin shit i qued for an 1 and a half the ride lasted 30 seconds there was no real buzz to it apart from the drop wud not recomend quein for hours for it so u have been warned!
@WumWip I have no doubt that this type of ride will appear in the USA very soon. Oblivion (the world first vertical drop) appeared within the USA not long after it was built. But, try not to discover the surprise of this type of ride, as the surprise makes this ride bloody amazing :D
@Kittywhiskers1000 Oblivion featured in the UK ages ago, it only lasts 3 seconds and you face the floor at an 88.8 degree angle and drop through a black tunnel.

@WumWip Alton towers is awesome but theres nothing on the scale of disneyland here in the UK, we have large theme parks but the US ones have higher budgets and of course a lot more space
Alton Towers has a lot of other stuff to do than just rollercoasters but the focus is the rides unlike disneyland where you can base a whole holiday around it
Yeah, but there's just something about Alton Tpwers that seems so great... They just seem like they have more to offer there. The whole park seems to have a spooky focus from what I've seen, which makes it an even more interesting place. Alton Towers has a lt of spooky adventurous rides unlik most parks here in California where the park is lucky enough to have at least one dark ride. I guess it's just the matter of perspective. Alton Towers just seems so much better to me.
@WumWip That spooky appeal only lasts for the first ride though, theres a 'ride' called hex where it appears as if the rooms spinning and it tells ghost stories as well as a haunted house style shooter but after the first time they get a bit stale, unlike rollercoasters where you know what your getting every time

@AIRWelshDan once, I was queuing for submission for a long time and when I got to the end the stupid woman who gets the people ready caught sight of my priority pass and sent me away (what a bitch) so I was really upset.
then I went on th13teen with my dad and it cheered me up.
TH13TEEN is good, i got front seat with my sister about 3 days after it opened, we only waited 70 mins, it was good, oh and nice touch with the Hex music, that is an epic ride

Oh and Thirteen is awesome, I went on Monday and it was well worth the wait. The best part was after it broke down while I was on it so we got to go round twice! Win! :D

@SLRpros Yeah, same D': When it said "on the site of the old Corkscrew ..." at 0:22 I paused it and moaned on my bed for about 2 seconds. That was the first ride that I had ever been on that went upside down, when there was that bus crash that happed just outside Alton Towers. I wanted to go on the Nemesis but I was to small :(
This is the least scary ride there. The first hump is a nice one that leaves your stomach up there but it's all downhill from there (excuse the pun). The only other bit of note is where the floor gives way and the track falls a couple of metres. This could have been good if it wasn't so predictable but it happens in complete darkness and isn't as scary as it should be.

Just had a great day at Alton Towers and managed to get on every big ride, have to say Thirteen is the biggest disappointment. Its a very tame rollercoaster with a tiny drop...Its not a thrill ride nor very scary. I think in a few years people will recognise it for the 'family coaster with a jumpy bit' that it is, and the queue times will be as low as peoples expectations. i am 12 and we were the only kids on this ride but, its really good i went with my school on friday, its hilarious and fun with your friends, we sat at the front and it actually was really good, want to go on it again, though my friend was on it when it broke down (it broke down at the first drop). i suggest you go on it as soon as the park opens/ before it closes.
I really liked this ride, I liked the fact that the coaster took you all over the place in all sorts of directions, then dropped, then went backwards. The build up to the ride in the queue made me quite nervous also. I think some people are just expecting too much...
its a little bit tacky and badly put together ! its so hyped up that it just makes it look even worse! the themes so inconsistent. its a tame rollercoaster starting with a really cool steep first slope. then it stops and there a little drop. i dont get it, it might be a worlds first but its not ready yet, until the height of the drop increases. we want a companion for nemesis , air rita and oblivion really! they are the ones to que for!

Given the hype, it would be rather impossible to live up to it, but given that Alton Towers has such great rides, this really lets the name down.
The ride is about a minute long, and seems like a modern Runaway Mine Train. There is one part in the ride (I don't want to spoil ;) ) that is very original, but certainly not worth the wait, or fifteen million pounds.

TH13TEEN is good, i got front seat with my sister about 3 days after it opened, we only waited 70 mins, it was good, oh and nice touch with the Hex music, that is an epic ride

Oh and Thirteen is awesome, I went on Monday and it was well worth the wait. The best part was after it broke down while I was on it so we got to go round twice! Win! :D

@SLRpros Yeah, same D': When it said "on the site of the old Corkscrew ..." at 0:22 I paused it and moaned on my bed for about 2 seconds. That was the first ride that I had ever been on that went upside down, when there was that bus crash that happed just outside Alton Towers. I wanted to go on the Nemesis but I was to small :(

This is the least scary ride there. The first hump is a nice one that leaves your stomach up there but it's all downhill from there (excuse the pun). The only other bit of note is where the floor gives way and the track falls a couple of metres. This could have been good if it wasn't so predictable but it happens in complete darkness and isn't as scary as it should be.

I just came back from A.T I had a gr8 time there 2.I didnt manage 2 go on every big ride,but still was well worth it ;) I decided that im gonna leave the most famous ride "the 13" on the end as its going to crown my day at A.T I have been waiting like an hour or maybe a little bit more and i was a very excited as a heard a lot of good fedbacks abt that ride.I had completely no idea whats gonna happend so I really was

Just had a great day at Alton Towers and managed to get on every big ride, have to say Thirteen is the biggest disappointment. Its a very tame rollercoaster with a tiny drop...Its not a thrill ride nor very scary. I think in a few years people will recognise it for the 'family coaster with a jumpy bit' that it is, and the queue times will be as low as peoples expectations. Have to say though the rest were just great.

i am 12 and we were the only kids on this ride but, its really good i went with my school on friday, its hilarious and fun with your friends, we sat at the front and it actually was really good, want to go on it again, though my friend was on it when it broke down (it broke down at the first drop). i suggest you go on it as soon as the park opens/ before it closes.

I really liked this ride, I liked the fact that the coaster took you all over the place in all sorts of directions, then dropped, then went backwards. The build up to the ride in the queue made me quite nervous also. I think some people are just expecting too much...

its a little bit tacky and badly put together ! its so hyped up that it just makes it look even worse! the themes so inconsistent. its a tame rollercoaster starting with a really cool steep first slope. then it stops and there a little drop. i dont get it, it might be a worlds first but its not ready yet, until the height of the drop increases. we want a companion for nemesis , air rita and oblivion really! they are the ones to que for!

If anyone else has recently paid good money to visit the park to go on this ride then I'm sure you will agree it was a major disappointment.
All of the advertisements making it seem like this new amazing ride are very misleading.
DON'T EVEN BOTHER GOING ON IT!

I queued up for 2 hours to experience this "worlds first (still not sure what they are refering to here ??! The roller coaster bit is rubbish, then the end bit drops about 5 foot and then reverse. I was extremely dissapointed, its crap.

i went on this today and its not bad. its not as good as the hype suggested it would but its not rubbish either. but all i would say is that you will be dissapointed if you queue up for 90 mins like i did.

Nice use of the "Hex" music there! Can't wait to go on the ride - even though people are already bashing it for not living up to the hype.
I never thought it would beat the classics like "Nemesis", "Oblivion" or "Air", but new rides at Alton Towers are always fun!

Erm ... what ? It drops down a bit in the dark ~ we all know that, so it's not "unknown".
What it SHOULD then do is go back up to a height & drop down a slope BACKWARDS.
All this does is reverse a little bit & go forward to the finish. Disappointing.

i went on 13 today- its fun but not scary in the slightest (and im a total wimp so trust me on that one) - more of a kiddies coaster- dont understand why they hyped it up so much- surely they knew it wasnt scary?- but still it was quite fun

this ride keeps breaking down, i started q-ing for it and low and behold, it broke down. went to q up again... POWERCUT. went on two rides that day. alton towers musta lost a fortune coz we got free tickets for next time coz all the rides shut down

I went on Monday, waited for an hour and forty five minutes, and cannot stress just how cheated I felt afterwards.
Given the hype, it would be rather impossible to live up to it, but given that Alton Towers has such great rides, this really lets the name down.
The ride is about a minute long, and seems like a modern Runaway Mine Train. There is one part in the ride (I don't want to spoil ;) ) that is very original, but certainly not worth the wait, or fifteen million pounds.

This is the worst ride at Alton Towers! Don't bother wasting 1.15 hours of your life waiting for it! All it does is go fairly slowly round then goes into a dark room where the carriage drops twice, not very far then goes backwards in the dark and that''s it!

plus it had loads of technical issues yesterday, it shut down 2-3 times, plus the que took longer, because there was only one train been filled with people because the other one was broken!!!
