Black Sabbath are a heavy blues band, not heavy metal, though they were a major influence on that genre, along with Led Zeppelin.

@MagicQuill75 Heavy metal is the mother genre of anything that is metal. Led zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath were all "heavy Metal". In fact that bluesy Sabbath sound that you are describing as "Blues metal" is to a lot of people the DEFINITION of Heavy Metal.

It wasn't until 20 years later, when the 80s came, that some artists felt the need to separate their image from others in the metal scene (for obv. reasons) by creating sub genres. Thats when you got your Doom/Death/Sludge/etc/etc metal.

best sabbath albums are albums 3 through 6 (master of reality, vol. 4, sabbath bloody sabbath, sabotage). acid king is one of the all time best stoner/doom bands that pay tribute to the to the sabs.

The first album that pretty created the stoner rock/stoner metal idea was Black Sabbath's first album, "Black Sabbath" ! But then again, their most important albums that really really influenced Stoner Metal is "Master of Reality" and "Vol. 4" ! "Paranoid" has also got "Fairies Wear Boots" and "Hand of Doom"... don't forget them !
