He's used BM 8s for ages! His new one has the fanned frets though, its not really for reaching the higher notes easily, it just gives you a variable scale on the different strings so you get better balanced string tension :)

I asked Alex, his 8 is tuned D#,G#,C#,G#,C#,F#,A#,D# and steve's 6 is C#,G#,C#,F#,A#,D# then for a few songs he drops the low C# to G#, same as sikth do for a few songs (yeah alright, you were closest!). He said him and steve rarely play in the same frets, its always a variation or its harmonised. Great musicians to work like that!! :)
