Uhg, as soon as people see your scrubs they think you're a nurse! I had to wear scrubs to work as a pharmacy technician. If I had an errand to run I'd get the "nurse" crap all the time.
The media make guys usually seem like morons compared to their significant other, in the modern era, so that is the reality of it...this is a funny aberration of what usually happens in the media, but since some females actually experience this kind of tx, that is too bad. They deserve better, b/c they did a heck of a lot of work to be able to get accepted to dental school.
Men need to buck up, while not belittling women in the process. Women would dig that.
The amount of little animations of the sidebar where the woman is always the illogical irrational person and the smart responsible person is always the man speaks loudly enoughof sexism.
If this is Aylin, I was a patient of yours, and I just want you to know i did not think you were a nurse the first I met with you, but I did think you looked cute in your ceil blue scrubs.
Hahah. It's funny because it's real. My wife is in dental school, and she gets the hygienist line all the time. In fact, when I mention to people I work with that my wife is in dental school, they assume hygienist - and I work in a hospital where we routinely work under an award winning otorhinolaryngologist who is a woman. Yeah it's pretty remarkable where sexism still manages to pop up.
This video is supposed to be funny. Stop taking it too seriously. The maker of it was does not think she's better than nurses, or hygienists, or assistants, or the dental chair. It is also not confronting the issue of sexism in dentistry. It is just something female dental students encounter on a daily basis and she wanted to make a joke of it. Nothing more.
Why does it really matter if people think you are a nurse? You are acting like nurses are lesser people than you. This is a pretty arrogant video if you ask me.
I am a younger looking male doctor and for that reason many people assume I must be a nurse when they see me in scrubs. When they ask me if I am a nurse, it doesn't bother me in the slightest bit. It's pretty sad that you think you are that much better than nurses that you have to make a video about what a "rough" life you have.
@donjuan8200 I really do not think that the person who made this video thinks that she is better than nurses. She is just tired of people thinking that every woman in scrubs is a nurse. Also, she is tired of the stereotype that men are dentists and women are the dental hygienists/assistants. This video is about sexism, not which profession is better.
@donjuan8200 I'm so happy that it doesn't bother you in the slightest bit. Your self-security is admirable...and your need to reinforce that over the internet...to strangers...anonymously, might I add, is quite illustrative of that. My intention was never to put down other professions. These are actual conversations I've had with people...so it was merely an attempt to poke fun at those who are so ignorant as to "assume" that scrubs=nurse, when you're a girl.
@borchies 'These are actual conversations I've had with people...so it was merely an attempt to poke fun at those who are so ignorant as to "assume" that scrubs=nurse, when you're a girl.'
You're right that that is ignorant and it is pretty sexist if that is based on a real conversation. But at the same time, if that is a real conversation then you were pretty rude in dealing with it. You don't have to ask someone if they are mentally retarded and say fuck you about it (if you really did).
@borchies yeah I thought you probably hadn't but I have seen people say stuff like that and worse in a similar situation. If I had been in real person I wouldn't be seeming as serious as my writing made it seem though =) And I don't know anything about how the programme works but it says dentist in a funny way o.0
@donjuan8200 I think the point of this wasn't that a nurse is a "lesser position" in society (although if we are living in the real world it is). It's to point of the fact that when someone sees a women in scrubs they automatically think they are a nurse and couldn't possibly be a professional. When I say professional I mean a doctor, dentist, chiropractor etc. It's more of a knock on gender roles than classes of society. Try not to be so sensitive :-).
@rslipaco how is being an RN a lesser position in society?
i'm an RN in Canada working in the ER at my local hospital, i have a BScN + graduate certificate in emergency nursing, and I routinely clear over $100k/year. maybe i'll move on to nurse practitioner someday, maybe i'll become an anesthetist
I here what you are saying... but there are also male teachers that don't like women in the profession and treat us like second class citizens. so it goes two ways.
Put a dot after you write "dentist" if you are done with that sentence , so the white thing won't have to pronounce the word "dentist" like the sentence is not finished yet.
@indecisive248 it most certainly is true, or i wouldn't have said it. dental school is a grind for everyone, no doubt about that, but there were some instructors who were a little more sympathetic to female students, and some female students who took advantage of it.
The female students in my class got treated better and graded easier by all the horny male instructors. It wasn't even subtle. Be glad you are a female student.
I am so sorry to hear that this is still a problem for female dental students. Half of my dental students are women. They will be dentists. They will be great.
HAHAHAHAHHAHA THAT WAS AWESOME go females!

The video dialog is OK, humorous in some cases. However, the comments are from idiots. Except this one.
