And where would that end? What if there were schools for only people of a certain height? Only one hair colour? How about only people who are deemed beautiful? Separating people based on things like race, gender, heck even sexuality, height, weight, etc even if it's only by choice still has the possibility of stoping others from being able to do and enjoy the things that would only be reserved for certain people. Keep in mind a one race school is still discrimination, anyway.
Well, I can think of a couple downsides. For example, if someone wants to get in to a good school, yet it doesn't allow their race due to it being only for X certain race, from a personal view it's making a big deal over what you can't help or change, and basically it's denying them an education which may give them a better chance than with other schools. And what about those of a mixed race? Would they also be denied there for not being purely one race?
For example, if someone disliked a certain race of people, they wouldn't have to associate with them, they would only have to;
1. Do what their job requires them to do. Eg, a waiter/waitress would have to get their orders.
2. If they have to talk or interact with them (which I'm guessing they wouldn't do unless they need to, like the job example), treat them like anyone else (aka, no insults, etc).
Oh, sorry about misunderstanding you then. But I do disagree, It's encouraging people to associate with groups they otherwise might choose not to (they still have a choice, it's not forcing anyone), at the most. At the least it's discouraging people from discriminating against others. They don't even have to talk to those groups (unless it's a job requirement, like a waiter/waitress). Treating someone like any other human is a different thing from socialising with them.
That's what I meant. The government isn't saying people can't go to school with other certain people based on diversity. One minute you're saying that the government is telling people who they can/can't go to school with, then you provide an example of the government not telling people who they can/can't go to school with, but putting them all in the same pot, so to speak. So which is it?
What exactly is your reason for thinking that? I've never really heard people talk about diversity and then say "this person can't go to school with those people becauase the government says so".

Everyone being the same wouldn't be too fun either, you know.
