  • My god this vibrato... !!

  • desde el simple hecho de afinar con melodias de esta obra.......y con los años que eñ sr tiene...huuuFF!........el tan solo escucharlo......gracias!

  • I dont know anything about the Violin.I dont know a thing about Bach. This is the first I have heard of Gitlis and this piece, but I do have ears and I know what greatness is and you dont need to be an expert to know this guy is great. Its like anything. I dont need to know "Why" Van Gogh is a great painter. I have eyes and can see that he is great. Greatness needs no explanation. It is what it is.

  • He just knows .

  • what a wonderful MUSICian. he bleeds his music.

  • i'm really sorry for the 3 people who can't like this... peace to theirs spirits

  • Quand çà tricote,l'intonation est approximative...

  • Quelle liberté ! Quelle indépendance ! Un vrai musicien au sens noble du terme. Merci Gitlis

  • music to my ears

  • Unique, beautiful, harsh, forceful, touching, storytelling - GITLIS!!

  • I can ALWAYS tell when it's Gitlis playing - his style is so unique. He is like all the greatest artists - his own strong personality enhances that of the composer. Heifetz, Milstein, Francescatti, and Kogan were like that.

  • great!

  • i can taste the "french" that he puts into this piece!

  • i love this interpretation..because..ITS GITLIS! ever piece he touches becomes his. violinists today struggle to find their own voice. few posses one like Gitlis

  • Marvelous! This is one of the best versions I've heard of the Chaconne by any violinist. It is unique, masterfully well performed, & highly intellectual. Unlike so many soloists, this man is no dummy. He plays with grace & dignity. His bowing is strong & his tone is crisp. Further, this is a man of courage & conviction. I am deeply impressed.

  • What a daring performance. When it comes to personal colour and character as a violinist, I would have to say Gitlis comes in 1st. I just love the way he puts pieces together. The last of the legends (along with perlman of course). You can never mistake Mister Ivry Gitlis' playing for anyone else. Absolutely unique, straight from the heart; the way classical violin should be played. I tire of repertoire and perfection...i want to be able to see the artists soul. Gitli=rebellious.

  • I've been studying the Chaconne over the past 4 months and probably listened to a dozen different recordings by the greatest violinists for 100+ hours. I will say without equivocation that this is a masterful recording on many different levels. I don't think his rubato is excessive because it generally doesn't break the flow of the phrasing. Rubato can have a profound and positive effect on the way voices and emotion are expressed, both of which are captured greatly by Gitlis.

  • thanks so sooooo much for sharing this! I was looking for his Chaconne...

  • @extrem20000 I think that u should just realize how far this man has made it. He has been playing violin for 60 or more years. He's been playing since he was very young. He knows what he is doing. He has performed with world renowned orchestras. He is great. Unless u have done what he has done. . . Then u can talk.

  • this is gitlis's bach.not bach's bach

  • @henrykkingdom So, how did Bach look when you heard him perform this on his Stainer violin? Since you know "Bach's Bach" the only answer is that you were there in 1730 or so to hear it, right? What kind of a STUPID remark have you made? I did say things like that when I was a young music student who thought he knew more than he did. OF COURSE IT IS GITLIS' BACH! It is Gitlis playing you stupid M*O*R*O*N. When you play it will be your Bach, but I think I will be too busy to attend the show

  • @henrykkingdom wow, where did you meet bach???i want to meet him too!!

  • Sure I can do . The main problem is that he doesn't know what he is playing here.

The tragedy starts when he is playing the main theme. He thinks that the theme is on the E and A string which you can see when he is playing the first triplechords. This is wrong because the bass voice is the theme. When he plays the variations he changes tempo all the time and makes a lot of rubato.

I really like Gitlis when he plays Berg or Paganini but Bach is not his cup of tea.

His sound is also not nice.

  • who the fuck u think you are idiot,he is an master.

  • @extrem20000 take your elitist attitude elsewhere...if you want perfect robotic playing I think you should spend more time with toyota.

  • @extrem20000 the only tragedy is your brain

  • @extrem20000 Would you be so kind as to put one of YOUR videos of the Chaconne up on You Tube for us to hear and judge. I know we would find it far superior to Gitlis' "Tragic" performance. If you don't PUT UP, then it is time for you to SHUT UP.

  • @extrem20000 I feel so sorry for you...

  • This is really bad taste ! Oh my god !!!!!

  • @extrem20000 i dont understand whats so bad about it. explain

  • music is universal the interpretation is free, in some other arts artist have a oportunity to do every thing "diferent". Why not in music?????

  • @doezi oh well, its only classical music that suffers from this. Unfortunately we have a bunch of elitist snobs who think classical should be played the way they want to hear it, and every artist should play it exactly the same since it is written the same for everyone. I'm not sure why classical attracts elitist pigs but unfortunately, we're stuck with them. While they connect with the critics, we can connect with the artists and composers. Because you know the artists think more like us.

  • @garrrynec The reason why non-classical music does not 'suffer from this' is because non-classical music is generally of lower stature. The dumbed down masses think classical music music is elitist because they cannot appreciate it. It is matter of pearls in front of swine. The critics of the past have been proved wrong time and time again because they had a pre-concieved way inwhich they thought things should have been presented. The classical musician connects with the composer and performer.

  • @extrem20000 So, is your video of this piece up yet? I want to hear you bring out the melody in the bass in the beginning like you explained I am sure your sound will be much lovelier as well since you didn't like Gitlis' tone.

Those chords at the beginning are easy to get wrong, you know. Show us!

  • @extrem20000 You mean : "this is bad taste" FOR YOU. Huge difference. You are free to express your opinion, but not to make it a universal statement. By the way, did you ever perform this piece on stage ? So long.

  • @extrem20000 you have every right to your opinion. It's like when I tell people that I think the Shining is a bad movie and they whine 'It's Stanley Kubrick's 'the shining' not Steven King's...!!" I don't give a front-door. I think it's just bad. People also get stuck on a person's legend and forget that they are fallible. That being said. I disagree with you. I think his playing is lovely here.
