  • How can it be that I just discovered this band only 5 minutes ago? Where was I wasting my time before that?

  • This is one of the songs i really think company's shouldn't be able to place an advertisement on and profit off.

  • why is this record praised so much?

    IT'S GENERIC SHIT!

  • @perskeisari this comment brings me so much anger but I won't taint this comment section with more hate

  • @perskeisari You're obviously a plebeian.

  • @perskeisari Whatever, you just turn up the volume on your dubstep and let the sounds of real music remain a mystery.

  • Beautiful.

  • What a beautiful song! Indeed a curious life . . . so short and potentially beautiful.

  • The ending makes me crack up every time :'D

  • It's amazing what happens when people who have no appreciation for anything... art, music, food, try to sound wise and deep on these comments. "horns sound like crap?" do your research first on music production and maybe why he is going for that sound before your words fill these comments like vomit.

  • @eyeglass101 "researching" music production has nothing to do with it. I dont like how it sounds, capiche?

  • This song has the same exact chord progression as Last Kiss by Pearl Jam.

Pearl Jam sucks and the only reason I know that is because I had to learn the song in my guitar class in high school.

  • @NathanIsNotCool OH THEY SUCK. OH. OK THANKS I DIDNT KNOW THAT. KEEP TELLING ME SHIT I DONT KNOW. THANKS BRO.

  • @franmanmonster69 lmfao calm down child.

  • those horns sound like crap :/

  • @modplugrad so does your trolling :D

  • @antimattress Its not trolling, its an opinion. I listened to this because I was told it was amazing but I dont find it appealing so I am dissapointed. Its funny how its ok to have an opinion as long as its one that you like...

  • @modplugrad 'my opinion' was, that you were trolling. sheesh, didn't like my opinion huh. funny how this works...

  • @antimattress Oh I see. You're a psychic super-mutant and you know my intentions and know that I intended to troll somehow.

  • Well, that was unfortunately abrupt.

  • It's like, Beirut/The Mountain Goats. This is amazing <3

  • @xcskier999 Mountain Goats? Win!

DFTBA :D viva les nerdfighers :D

  • @xcskier999 hdsaahhfasj you're great

    dftba

  • the needle drop!!

  • Omg i swear i wrote a song using these exact same chords before even hearing of this band......

  • @iLebowitz i think everyone has at one point lol

  • Old and simple as fuck. Buts its ok, Hipsters love old, simple shit. lol wat fags

  • @TheLastDorrito its not simple, sure the guitar may be generic but there are like 10 instruments being played in this song

  • @TheLastDorrito Or maybe it just sounds good? Not everyone who listens to nice music is a fricken hipster

  • @TheLastDorrito stop.

  • like it!

  • this is such an interesting band.. its like theyre trying to use instruments/ sounds that sound bad on purpose... but in the end it sounds beautiful

  • I ends so sudenly..

  • @TheMikkelet lol i empathise with this sentiment

  • @TheMikkelet you accidentally your post

  • @AllenAndersonTaylor I about that was weird

  • @TheMikkelet I think it makes perfect sense in context with the rest of the album.

  • check out my video people

  • I under estimated this LP, but it is amazing!

  • Holy shit this is good!

  • Meh, might not be bad,

but its too simple and poppy for me :/

It sounds as if they just started playing and didnt even think about it

  • @MrMunchhead Simplicity is not always a bad thing. I would've said the same thing about three or four years ago. But now I've come to apprieciate it. The complexicity that you're searching for you'll find in the arrangements rather than the song structure for this type of music. Also the lyrics... are amazing... so is the melody actually... but I totally understand why you'd say that if you're just listening to the guitar.

  • @BenjaminPaulWoodham yah youre right the vocals are pretty nice

  • are they playing inside a ufo or something?

  • @derri3s3 "in a ufo over the sea"

  • This is awesome. This is the first song I've heard by these guys and it is amazing.

  • @aer0smith1 they only get better! :)

  • With lyrics?

  • @southrules Look at description box.

  • This is the first song I learned to play on guitar.

  • @MayorsOffice881 Well I imaging that wasn't very hard.

  • This...is beautiful.

  • I just fell in love with this album. And the fact that it's from the 90's makes it cooler.

  • I can't understand why everyone is bitching about how this band is mainstream. I mean this album is over 10 years old and they broke up ages ago...Maybe it's just a good album being kept alive granted there are annoying hipster 12 year olds who have found this band somehow.

  • @Riotgirl93 They aren't mainstream. This album continues to perplex me as to why people love it so much. Guided by Voices wrote better two minute pop gems, the Olivia Tremor Control did and do psychedelia better, and this... it's just a bit rubbish.

  • "can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all"

  • I've been listening to it 2 years ago for 2 weeks. This song was like my first sex experience. Sad thing is that I don't like it anymore. Though, In The Aeroplane over the Sea is one of the best albums ever, in my opinion.

  • I found it hilarious someone compared this to "The Gardener" by The Tallest Man on Earth. Good song but nothing compared to TTMOE.

  • couldn't listen to the whole song because it's to good and i don't feel worthy to listen to music that's meant for the gods

  • i love the fucking horn sounds in the background

  • Learned this song on my guitar. proceeded to bang every hipster girl I could in my city lololololololol.

  • @Chembletek The best part is it so fucking easy to learn, little to no effort but they think you're amazing at guitar.

  • @SupaTROopa2

Also learn to sweep = instant guitar god.

  • I'm fucking pissed. WHY DID IT CUT OFF? ...I shuld calm down.

  • JOY

People, just try to be as happy as this song. Love a bit.

  • its not a potato its a cardboard cutout that you put your head in

  • This comment is dedicated to my new friend! I wish her the very best and will keep her in my heart always!

  • @EclipseStrife awh i feel special :P

  • GUYS GUYS. i figured it out. its a potambourino. are we happy now? :3

  • I don't care what it is, i just like it.

  • Comment removed

  • Geez, so much hate in the comments..

  • it's a tamberine stupids

  • it is a drum not a potato, fools

  • IT'S A POTATO

  • Great lyrics... The music is kinda meh though, in my honest opinion.

  • hey anyone know where i can pick up a band tee from them do they exist

  • @TheTerriblyTerrific1 they do exist you can get them online, just type neutral milk hotel band tees on google your find them

  • One word. Now two. Now four. Now six. Crap! Now seven.

  • This song have an awesome melody. Music from a genius. Underrated ...

  • does anyone know what the album cover is? her head? is it a tambourine or...?

  • @OhKear

I always thought it was like half a fruit, like a kiwi or something. Well not a kiwi, but something. It does look more like a tambourine though, now that I look at it again.

  • @OhKear it is a Potato

  • Comment removed

  • is it supposed to cut off abruptly at the end like that

  • Very nice, I personally would of liked to hear a harmonica instead of the trumpet. But of course, like all comments on youtube, its compleatly irrelevant (:

  • I gotta say, when I saw "Neutral Milk Hotel" in Will Grayson, Will Grayson, I thought it was fake. But nope!

  • ahh, will grayson will grayson introduced me to the this band! :)<3

  • The lyrics. Are amazing

  • Ice cream changes!!!

  • This band is just a rip-off of the Flobots.

And not a single ounce of respect was given that day.

  • @ar2110302 Sir are you def?

  • @Jhosk95

def? I don't know what that is. Mos Def? Deferoxamine? Am I the mixture of Diprivan, Esmeron and Fentanyl? Or you meant to As" are you definitely ...?" and just forgot to end the sentence?

Whatever the case, NMH is a rip off and I am ashamed that people who seem to have a good taste in music haven't figured it out by now.

  • @ar2110302 Yes i mean't are you a mixture of Diprivan, Esmeron and Fentanyl, are you? Idiot, its obvious to assume I mean't deaf.. Take your childish smart ass comebacks else where, If you don't like a video/song on YouTube don't click it. Unless you literally have nothing better to do.

  • @Jhosk95

Ahh yes. The "if you don't like it, don't watch it/listen to it" argument. How can I know if I Iike it if I haven't listened to it? Most illogical.

Also, I never said I didn't like it. Where do you get your information from? Being a rip-off and doing shitty music is completely different, retard. Also, about the "def" misunderstanding: I didn't know that this wasn't some sort of crazy hipster talk. So, I was confused. Don't be angry on the internet. ;)

  • @ar2110302 You'll get over it big guy, catch ya later.

  • @ar2110302 Your cool.

  • @dgk02livin4him

My cool? What does that even mean?

  • @ar2110302 this is like saying david bowie ripped nirvana off. Flobots was formed in 2000, idiot.

  • @ar2110302 funny how a band founded in the early '90s is a rip-off of a band founded in 2000..did they use time travel or something?

  • Will Grayson, arbiter of good music

  • I see this shit everywhere, finally decided to listen to it, it's pretty good actually. Figured it was just some overhyped pretentious hipstershit.

  • DFTBA, NMH, DFTBA. <3

  • @TempusFugitive1 Yes, yes good

  • I hate this! Its sad and depressing and weird and art is supposed to be happy and fun and everyone knows that…

  • @AndysMouseRatBand Interesting. I thought art was supposed to reflect the feelings of the creator.

  • I feel that if a Nazi could be any kind of salesman, he would be an oven salesman.

  • @Midgetsinthongs prick

  • @vorkutaman y so anally devastated

  • @Midgetsinthongs shame your grandparents werent in the ovens because they bred halfwits who bred you,a halfwit that makes vile remarks on the net. I hope you steralize yourself before you have vile offspring yourself. Not that you'd recognise them as such since your parents did such a poor job with you. Scumbag

  • @vorkutaman If you really want to bring down someone on the internet, I suggest you spell everything correctly and grammar-check your passage. People just can't take you seriously with errors everywhere in your criticisms.

Now, ironically, by insulting my parents and my ancestors, you are no better than one who has made a rather offensive joke about someone else's ancestors. I don't mean to be a prick to you. This is the internet, and you shouldn't take others seriously.

  • @Midgetsinthongs No, you made a joke in relation to an event in which over 6,000,000 innocent men, women and children were exterminated. Parents led their young children by the hand into a room, many knowing they were about to die together in a horrible way. Imagine the panic, terror, the clawing at the doors to escape, seeing your child gasping for air....and they went through all this only for someone to come along 65 years later and make jokes about it. Nice one,you must be proud of yourself.

  • This is one of those songs that I just can't stop whistling to.

  • Turning the heat up to 451, this is an album I'd fight for.

  • This is truly a masterpiece, ass all from Neutral Milk Hotel.

When I am 80 I will still have the memories of the feelings this music has given me.

  • Whats another song that has the same tune as this? I know there is one. I think it might be an older song from the 50s. Anyone know? It's driving me nuts.

  • @jayhawks25

Check out the cover by the band "matt pond PA" if that is what you are missing. A very nice version actually.

  • APRIL LUDGATE I LOVE YOU! OH AND MOUSERAT FTW!

  • What a shame that fantastic bands like this are completely ruined by kids who feel the need to label themselves and others. God, we could do without this entire generation of spoiled teenagers.

  • @BatalAxe Too bad people have to say songs and bands are ruined because other people like them.

  • This song has the best top comments I've ever seen. Don't 'up' this comment. I don't want it tarnishing the top.

  • s0 hipst3r.

  • then she got burned up

  • would be great except for the high pitch whine in the background...

  • @kennedy1134 that's actually saws being played with violin bows haha!

  • This album DEMANDS trolls. Welcome, and fuck you all.

  • @aridchimp its so chill it'd be like "yeah, whatever"

  • @jridenoure Helen Keller *purfurz* it when you listen to Two Headed Boy after this. Preferably the whole album. Then she drooled

  • my uncle introduced me to this band when I was like 15 and at the time I was like "Um yeah thats cool (wtf!!!)" but now I love it lol dam I miss that guy

  • this song reminds me of dusty pancakes, the vocalist is the best part imo

  • Very nice indeed. : )

  • so hypster it hurts

  • 240p, we meet again

  • @robin8110 It's in 360p by default, or you can even change it to 480p...

  • What the hell is this? My hearing must be going faster than I thought.

  • Will Grayson, Will Grayson led me to this band. I'm so happy it did, wow.

  • If this song was a pancake, I would vomit

  • How strange it is to be anything...

  • i just found out about this band and i already like them

  • POOOOOOOP!!!!!! have u seen my poooooop.... please help!!!!!!!!

  • If this song had a dick I would suck it.

  • These guys are amazing! I really like this song. Thanks for posting!

  • The ending was a boner kill, when you cut it off ;-;

  • My girl hates that song!!

'cause I can't help joining in at the top of my lungs...

  • gosh, this is such a lovely song. The harmony and lyrics just captivate me..

  • I love how The Strokes, Arcade Fire AND The Flaming Lips are in suggestions. HIPSTERS RULE THIS VIDEO.

  • @JumpyTurd all three of those bands suck ass.

  • @MrBuddyHolly1 No they don't. When you make music better than they do, I'll accept that comment.

  • @JumpyTurd haha.

  • How did the hipster burn his tongue on the pizza? He ate it "before it was cool"

  • @weakerthan13 That's going in my arsenal of favorite dumb jokes. =D

  • @weakerthan13 dude that's hilarious

  • the fact that this band is considered "hipster music" is why mainstream radio is infested with rats

  • @EatenBySpeakers This is shit.

  • @EatenBySpeakers HAHAHAHAHAHA! I lol'd. This must be hipster music then.

  • @EatenBySpeakers This has no pop basis, it doesn't belong on mainstream radio. I have a pretty eclectic fast in modern music (unintentionally). But I don't get these guys... What am I missing? Is there some depth behind the artsy-fartsy appeal? Please tell me there is some depth...

  • @thespecter2 You're not missing much.

  • @thespecter2 It is called good music, we just like the sound.

  • @sethboy66 Oh ok, dull. Just as I thought.

  • @thespecter2 If you think that the only view for music is your own then you are a complete and total idiot. Have fun not being able to comprehend most subjects in this world.

  • @sethboy66 C'mon man.. I know it's not. But just "liking the sound" is a pretty lame answer.

  • @thespecter2 So you listen to music for the image of the person singing it and not the music itself? Typical for youth today I suppose.

  • @sethboy66 No, that is what I am against. I am not youth. I am 20. Young, but not youth. I like depth to my music, music with a purpose. Melody is fine and all but I usually like some principle.

  • @thespecter2 um 20 is pretty young

  • @MonsterMisunderstood I think I said it was young didn't I?

  • @thespecter2 oh ya, ya did sorry. wrote that pretty late last night.

  • @thespecter2 By "artsy-fartsy appeal" do you mean the lyrics or just the whole song in general? For me it's more of the lyrics that are the depth, it all depends on how you interpret them. Also I just think it sounds good too.

  • @AllOfYouGuysAreDumb Usually artsy kind of contrasts with heart. This music sort of lacks heart, at least from here. So what is the message I am missing in the lyrics?

  • @thespecter2 This song in particular is about the loss of a loved one and all the feelings that he has gone through throughout his relationship. It goes from blissful and talks about the love that he felt, the heartbreak from when she died, and the realization that she is still beautiful in her death. It's about finding beauty in the grand scheme of things. There is a lot going on in this song.

  • @EatenBySpeakers ive never heard this on the radio..then again dont listen to la radio

  • Oh beautiful.

  • new fave band?!

  • Hearing this for the first time ranks right up there with hearing The Cure for the first time time. There might be alot of come backs to that comment, but I meant it most sincerely.
