they coverd a classic reggae song and did an amazing job! although I would not consider their sound to be reggae at all. maybe the guitar but thats about it.
the clash stood for unity and respect and caring and if u bastards cant even get that right then u dont deserve to be here either. leave ellaaaa1995 alone! ellaaaa however u got here is fine by me
and here the shity argument goes on between punks and skins, both like the music, but it belongs to punks, the problem is, back then the skins didnt have any of their own musik and they had to borrow some from other poeple.
Ah who cares. It was so long ago I can't remember what it was that turned me on to the Clash, but it must have been something, considering I wasn't born when this song came out. The main thing is you paid attention when it happened. Thousands didn't.
what is your problem with skins. i heard of the clash ages ago and skins just adds more fans to the clash and popularizes it, plus Skins is actually really good and you wouldn't know that unless you have watched it . To be perfectly honest I don't care so stop being a bunch of hipsters and love the clash for what it's worth... A FUCKING AMAZING BAND THAT CONTRIBUTES TO THE LIST OF 70's PUNK THAT BLOWS YOUR MIND AND SAYS FUCK THE SYSTEM!
the mighty clash played it better than the original !! the only white band that could play reggae like the blackman !! that was told to me by a rasta !! RESPECT !!!

@mrjoew8 I just went and listened to that song, and I didn't understand why I was supposed to listen to it. Aren't they two completely different songs? And does your suggestion rest on the supposition that people listen to music for a particular effect?
It just reminds me of that old statement, "Hey that song sucks, so listen to this one instead."
@Angrykitty19 I discovered it 20 years ago & its still fresh, I say to my friends who litsen to Rap or reggae "you don't like punk rock? litsen to this" & everyone who hears it is hooked!
@RubberBanditsfan1 I know I am ashamed to have not discovered The Clash earlier on! It's alright now throughout the past 2 weeks I have listened to their albums on Youtube and now am a fan. My fav albums are their Debut album and London Calling, I got a The Clash shirt delivered this morning too it looks awesome :D
@themadthrasher666 you're the dumb shit because she is on about "skins" , a douchy british tv programme that idolises tools and is generally crap. "because you should already know the fucking clash"
@NMEGAXC No you fuck off.... who fucking cares what or whom brought people to listen to this awesome track? the important thing is that music like this cant die, but will always live on, and wether there's a cover band or a show using the music, more and more people will hear it and eventually learn to appriciate the awesomeness that is the CLASH.
@caseyssuxass im sorry, i love the clash with all my heart but you are insane for even saying that! you cant touch junior murvin and lee perry and im sure joe himself would even tell you this! ;-)
this is an excellent cover, but it doesnt hold a candle to the original!
Sorry you feel so strongly about what someone else thinks about a song that isn't even very good. Honestly, Murvin would have zero incentive to not like a cover of one of his songs if it pays him royalties.
@antarcticdirtclod I think you are mistaken. That's not a very good comparison on your part because both Dylan and Hendrix are great artists. The clash on the other hand, not so much. They're just the green-day of yesteryear. Sorry I don't have lower musical standards.
@thehebrewhammer420 perhaps to you they're the green day of yesteryear, but while green day is tired & unoriginal, the clash were largely working in a vacuum. they helped create the punk movement, & even if you don't want to appreciate punk today, you can't ignore that it got big for a reason. it embodied the anger & frustration of the youth in that period. how can you look down on something that millions of people connected with & say it's not art just because it's simple?
@radioviking I never said its the clash wasn't art. I said they sucked. A painting can be absolute crap but it is still art none the less. To me most punk is unoriginal they just sound too similar. So yes I don't appreciate punk for the most part. I do however appreciate reggae which is naturally why I don't like this version. I'm sure there are plenty of people who objected to Lil John doing a "remix" of Ozzy's Crazy Train. I'll bet the general consensus among purists is that Ozzy's is better.
@thehebrewhammer420 Wot a load of shite. Everyone knows art is based on interpretation, just because you 'dont get it' doesnt make it crap. Why is music any different? I think this is a great version of Murvins song but its neither better or worse, appreciate it for what it is. Paul Simonon was into reggae and wanted to diversify some of the Clash music to encompass that. If they marketed themselves as a reggae tribute band, you would have an argument. Stop being so narrow minded.
lol wow we're still doing this? You missed the boat by about 8 months my man. Maybe in 8 more months you can find something else I never said to quote me on.
@thehebrewhammer420 to me, this embodies the very definition of art just as well as any more proficient musician, and even better than most. after all, it inspires exactly the emotions that are obviously felt by the artists
also, if you think the song is no good and the original artist is a sell-out, why post about him rolling over in his grave in the first place? you obviously don't have much respect for murvin, let alone the people touched by this message
i think this was play when i was being made i ve been lissting to clash since i was a wee tot and love them i dont know whats up with the kids my age but they need to hear real music and i was born in 83 so i dont know if this song was out in 82 but ive had in my mind for as long as i can think
