  • I thumbed it down because they insisted on playing music all over it. Annoying.

  • @MrMcGuire1000

"Africa would be far worse than it now is if it were not for Western medicine, science, technology, knowledge, education, agriculture, engineering, etc."

    hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

right TYPICAL colonial era KINDERGARTEN education.

So not only where BLACK MUSLIMS attracting scholars worldwide but also colonized and Enslaved Spain, Portugal, France & Sicily for 700 years.

  • We know Timbuktu was built by Israelites some of them coverted to Islam that's why the damn so called white man and the Africans burnt the books how convient that it fall around the slave trade..."get ride of the evidence".Psa 83:3 They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. Psa 83:4 They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from [being] a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.

  • @zamboka Psa 83:5 For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: Psa 83:6 The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Psa 83:7 Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Psa 83:8 Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.

  • @zamboka Take that "Israelite" shit somewhere else. You crackpots have nothing better to do than usurp other people's history. Ironically, in this case you're usurping black african history which is your own but because you're too ignorant full of SELF HATE to admit it. You lot are some of the most pathetic I've ever seen.

  • All the mutha fuckin languages of the world ain't nothin but black ass languages!!!! damn i mean white ass mutha fuckas and anybody else who are not black( including mulattos, indians, and who the hell else ever) should just realize that there time and place on earth has been nothing but play play fo' dem. its like dey asses trying to play "house" like kids do when dey try to mark their mommy and daddy, cause black people are the mommy and daddy of the world and nobody else can live up to that

  • what language were the scripts written in?

  • This restoration project will be excellent for Mali's Tourism as well by helping the economy.

  • Why are the Europeans and the Arabs supporting this i thought they are against Africans having a history.

  • Why don't the Moroccans and the French give some money to this project. The Moroccans destroyed many of the Library's and stole many of the texts and so did the French.

  • What about the Moroccans who invaded Timbuktu? They destroyed many of the Library to. This is before the French came.

  • I'm inspired by this... I feel as though a lifetime of lost speculation has qualified me for this worthy knowledge... With this, we can do anything!

  • Okay so what is this book going to explain? how africa adopted another ideology before the western one? its not authentic unless its say aN african language written in african alphabets with no foreign influences and a absolutely african system of government, academics, culture and more, i think this is what many young people are looking for for that is the real identity of the blacks, we are starting to forget what it means to be a race,

  • @nzingachronicles

This is faulty and rediculous reasoning. Right now, you are using a Latin alphabet to write in English and use Arabic numerals for numbers. These manuscripts in Timbuctoo are no different. They used Arabic script to write in Arabic, Hausa, Fulani, Soninke, Bambara, Tamasheq and so on. There are also a multitude of more recent African scripts all over the continent.

You can even say Arabic is African to begin with if you understand history and geography.

  • The Qur'an and Islam are the shared treasure of all humanity. Africans have utilized the light of the Qur'an and the Propht(saw) to Channel their genius and strength to achieve a great civilization that future reasearch should explore how it radiated throughout the world. I am sure it influenced the world and many untangible ways for the better.

  • Definitely. But the statement in the film that Timbuktu was a mix of "Arabs and Africans" is misleading. There was an "Arab" quarter of the city, or in fact a quarter for foreigners in general who set up their own trade posts, but the vast majority of scholars and all of Timbuktu's governors/rulers were west African.

  • @ihsansville fuck the quaran

  • Why do you think they burnt the books? You do not have to be a scientist to know.

  • Jealousy,

    Of what are we,

    Becomes tendency,

    For their thievery!

  • @WaterJumping

I think we should digitize these books; at least snap photographs of them and then translate. They can NEVER burn digital knowledge. If need be, data can be burnt into a little metal ball and cast into space for safekeeping. These brothers and sisters were clever for preserving this info unto now; we must now make sure that no mysterious "fires" occur in the near future.

  • Timbuktu was OBVIOUSLY Muslim at one stage. -as we can see here.

  • Timbuktu along with lots more of West Africa is still Muslim. It was never Arab if thats what you are trying to say. Muslim is what you call people who practice Islam. Arabs are a ethnic group.

  • No Im Not Sayin was ever ARAB.

  • Timbuktu was and never will be Muslim

  • Timbuktu is Muslim, but it's not Arab.

  • I thought there were no black people in the Sahara, only "sub-Saharan" Africa? These people and Darfurians look black to me!

  • now you see that it is a bullshit lie. they always have been in the sahara. archeologist have been pulling up remains deep into the sahara that were black for years now. yet people still say there were no blacks in the sahara blah blah blah. yet their view, the (racist) view, is still is more known. as the racist view of (everything) not just black african, is.

  • Once Timbuktu was known as the intellectual centre for the propagation of Islamic teachings. Now the'city of knowledge' is witnessing a renaissance.

  • 8:03 carried by Moslems fleeing spanish persecution?

Or Moors (black people) seeking refuge from Christian Isabella takeover of Spain which they had ruled?

see, it's funny how people switch between classifications based on different aspects of ones defining principles. One minute they are Africans the next they are Muslims. hahahaha

    Word games...

  • So much for lacking a history!!I swear stereotypes can be soo annoying!

  • I love this piece on Timbuktu. But I am sorely disappointed with the letting of Arabs off the hook for Mali Songay's fall and there by the Destruction of Timbuktu as an Intellectual institution. Arabs didn't have a damn thing to do with the creation of The University at San Chorea. They didn't come into Mali Songay seeking refuge from Spain. They came in guns and cannons blazing subjugating the Akan people. The libraries were there reward when they got there. The Arabs kept Timbuktu a secret.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

THEY WERE SO CLEVER! I WOULDN'T HAVE EXPECTED ANYTHING LESS FROM THEM! They kept the manuscripts hidden until it was safe to reintroduce them to the world. Finally the truth will come out ...

  • Comment removed

  • Very interesting...I was always thinking of Timbuktu as a metaphor for being in a remote place.

  • This is such a wonderful find! The history of the great nations of Africa needs to be understood. Without this history, the country and its contributions are deemed insignificant by other nations that present their own interpretation of historic events.

I am very happy to hear about the outpouring of support for the purpose of preserving these manuscripts.

The great countries in Africa were not all empoverished, nor were they insignificant.

We now can learn of their contributions!
