  • thats three things

  • What a wonderful video to end the day. Goodnight everybody! Love yourself and love the universe!

  • I wouldn't compare Alan Watts to David Icke. Watts never claims something science has not already proven. He just doesn't go into the details of it(maybe he didn't know or understand them in that way at the time). Today we know from neuro-science that there is indeed no individual as an acting agent. We are the entire universe. The entire organism. In harmony. And meaningless. David Icke is the pseudo-scientist.

  • i actually think the music works well in this vid

  • I really like guys like Alan Watts and David Icke but sometimes I can't ignore the thought that some of what they say often sounds like pseudo analytical ramblings. Sometimes I think myself or such and such has not put enough thought into a certain matter and other times it's the oposite. Everyone seems to be seeking some sort of higher wisdom but it just dosen't seem to come naturally to people these days, like it's forced. I don't think it works that way.

  • @TheOmegaeyes David Icke and Alan Watts are two very different characters. If you're having trouble with believing some of it, try just listening to Alan Watts. David Icke goes a little too far.

  • @CYaN1c1oWN They're both very intetelligent, I just don't conceptualize reptilian bloodlines as having any foundation in fact. I guess Allen Watts has debunked that theroy. I find them both very interesting to listen to at any rate.

  • yeah ditch the music

  • good reference to the universe and brahma. too much reinforcement to the self and selfishness. unselfishness and sacrifice is is a stronger and more devoted virtue.

  • @cremecarmel1 i dont think so in the world today. people try too hard in my opinion to please others, creating the higher desire to want independence. self-sacrifice and selfishness dont exsist, as im sure you know, while in harmony. I think alan is just trying to encourage relaxation for the many folks that feel an overwhelming desire meet the expectations of those around us. its ok to be selfish if you give alot to others.

  • Oh, and I don't actually mind the music as long as you can hear the voice above the music (which you certainly can here), but might I suggest uploading two versions of these videos (one with quiet background music and one without) so that the people who don't want the music (or may feel manipulated by it in the case of @onewingedangel326 and his 6 cohorts :) ) can watch that one, and people who want to make their own videos can have a clean version to work with.?

  • Anyone else like the band Starfucker? They use a lot of Alan Watts lectures in the background of their music (they're kind of electro-poppy-whatever; I like them). ANYWAY, they use the first 44 seconds or so of this talk in one of their songs (I can't remember if it's "Hungry Ghost" or some other song off "Reptillians" but ANYWAY), and I've always wondered what the SECOND thing that Alan Watts thinks everyone should do in their lives. . . well now I know :)

  • The core problem, demonstrable for its results in history (and in every effort to solve our problems) is PROFIT. It's our core equation and it's irrational (does not add up). You cannot "take more than you give" and expect real well-being for it. So? We have to reclaim the last real power we have left---our daily work, which Profit must have (and by which we become slaves). See WOOP: We the Workers of the World Walk Out On Profit, at jackdempseywriter.wordpress dot c-o-m

  • What a bunch of crap! Did he say that Jesus caused the Crusades? He had nothing to do them whatsoever, nor any of the things that so called (of themselves) 'Christians' did in the name of Jesus. Jesus said to love your enemies. The only trouble Jesus did; was to Satan and to those who claimed to be holy. Jesus came to destroy the works of darkness, and to bring alive the souls of men. It amazes me that after this man mentioned Jesus, it was Freud whom he called 'Healer'. This is true ignorance.

  • @FacetsOfTruth I don't think he is talking about Jesus the way you heard it. From my point of view he is talking about the 'so called Christians' and what they thought they were doing in the name of Jesus. Evil people trying to legitimize their evil by taking the teachings of Jesus out of context in order to spread hate. Similar to the KKK and other white supremacists. Not saying Jesus is responsible for such things.

  • @blkcpdconure Indeed, Jesus was a "trouble maker". Luke 12:51 "Do you think I came to bring peace on the earth?..." Most people, even so-called Christians, are so deeply entrenched in what they want Jesus & God to mean and represent that they don't see Jesus at all. Jesus words and ways have been corrupted. Many Christians will swear there is "peace" in atomic destruction, etc. Just as Messianist Jews misinterpreted God's intentions, Christians also fail to understand Jesus.

  • whats the first background song called?

  • the music ruins the speech no matter what the music is, because the music will give you an emotion that will stick with you for the speech and put you in a wrong mindset to genuinely accept his ideas and understand his state of mind

  • @onewingedangel326

Oh shit, does this mean it can be used as some sort of brainwashing mind controlling technique?

  • @pedowpn it has often been used in that way

  • @onewingedangel326 i thought that as well

  • @onewingedangel326 Then find the original :)

  • the gloomy music is quickly counteracted by the laughing

  • @p4gs

these contrasts/environs/emotional aspect is why i like music on some talks and also like just hearing the silent words.

  • nice wave!

  • 4:47 The most beautiful answer ever. I love how Alan Watts seems to be building knowledge within his own thinking from his earlier years compared to his later, where he started more traditional religious studying with stricter ties to ideas, and his later years a free flowing energy that cannot be contained by any one idea. I hate to say it, but this man is a prophet,

  • I wish people would stop mixing music into his talks. What do you think you accomplish by that?

  • what is the name of the 2 musics please?

  • what is the name of the music please?

  • wow and I really mean wow

  • the illusion of the ego comes from are selfishness which in terms means are personality is only here for one purpose, to communicate with others and give us a sense of strong understanding in our selfs. By truly knowing what is right and wrong then is when someone should truly form their ego.

  • @trainofaaron Wow. There should be no ego. The ego manipulates the mind into a deep form of ignorance out of fear of dealing with reality in an open and truthful manner which is very difficult for us because we are born into this world surrounded by all kinds of crazy egos and selfishness. The problem is the regular person has lost the courage to think and feel in an open manner. The answer is for large groups of people to again think collectively in a more healthier state of mind.

  • @recklesswit2891 lol ive been through this and the ego helps one find self confidence. It gives us a greater awarness of our surrondings. Ive spent most of my life with no ego. The sad truth is with out an ego your just a sheep in the herd. Must find out what is right and what is wrong before an ego can be formed.

  • @trainofaaronNope. Sorry buddy. You speak like those who are afraid of the truth. Never ego, only truth. There is a way to deal with reality without an ego. People have been forced to forget how to properly deal with life. What you are talking about is what current people are thinking because they were shut down for so long. They shut themselves down because they cannot handle the age of technology. There is no help when dealing with reality. The only way through is through.Try that, good luck.

  • @recklesswit2891 Im not afraid of the truth, all I see are possiblities and understanding my self is my highest priority.. The ego is formed for the comfort of self importance. "Self importance is the core of everything that is good in us and in the other hand its everything that is rotten in us"- Don Juan, but to be free of your ego would be to lose what u stand for. I dont attend to continue this discussion but in a world with mindless fucks you can depend on your ego to keep your sanity.

  • @recklesswit2891 Much love brotha

  • does anyone know the song thats playing in the background? i LOVE it :D

  • Only 25,000 views?! This guy needs at least 6,000,000,000 views.... Then the world would be a much better place. Thank you Alan, this is a real gift. Peace and Love x

  • People actually lap this stuff up?

  • @Esoparagon

please...be so kind to tell us - what do you 'lap up' ?

  • @novaflo339 Reason.

  • @Esoparagon

are you to be the arbiter of what is"reason" then.

tell us then...from whence does such reason emerge...your ass?

  • @novaflo339 The universe itself is the ultimate arbiter. My reasoning faculty emerges from my brain.

  • The background music has been inserted by others so you don't listen to this video.

  • What is it with fucking backround music.

  • @Kan2209 chill out ,u're to upset with something that is not realy a problem

  • @innox000 Since when do you decide other peoples problems?

  • @Kan2209 ego

  • So they think love is relative. Yeah so we project ourselves into things and that's why we love them because they represent ourselves. There's your conclusion of 9 minutes. Subjective though.

  • i <3 the universe

  • only in terms of x there can be a y.. F(x)

  • @BELIEVERS777...you are a fool. The story of Jesus Christ is a rip-off of the Egyptian Sun God Horas. I certainly can't say whether there is or is not a higher power; but guaranteed ignorant humans from over 2000 years ago didn't have more insight or get the story right. They were just dumb humans making up stories to explain a world they didn't understand.

  • @zarny911 so you do see that there is a higher power. You just are confused. one day you will see the truth.

  • Wow you dont go to sleep when u die. Thats a lie the devil wants you to think. If your a follower of Christ ( a true born again believer ) you will spend eternity with Christ our Lord In Heaven. Now if you do not accept the truth and believe in Christ, then you will be where he is not. Which is hell ( lake of fire). So i beg you accept Jesus Christ now. We walk by faith and not by sight, in these days, for life is a choice and God is Love and Love does not make you... Love...love ( does not mak

  • @BELIEVERS777 If there is such thing as a sin, it is blindly following an indoctrination that forces one to worship a being that can easily be called evil. I hope one day you will be as free as Alan Watts himself.

  • @ApoptosisMusic what an amazing thing to say

  • Please get rid of the music. :(

  • wtf is this music?

  • The Lord of the Ring background music was a bit much.

    Good stuff, though.

  • Boy was I relieved by all these picture moving comments.

  • it is strange, I never learn about these ideas of C. Jung and Freud in school. At least not in this way, the teachers explain them totally differently.

  • @ArroganceClause Read the books yourself, no need for an other mediating the information - trust yourself.

  • @Comcouveflor Fucking thank you.!!!!

Im so fustrated and happy you said that.

I guess living this world theres alot more anger where that came from,

  • @ArroganceClause I completely agree.

  • Alan Watts taught that self awareness is fundamental to personal and spiritual growth. Lovely extract ...

  • whats the music at 3.00 ?

  • Is the photo moving or am I tripping.

  • I like the sychophantic laughter.

  • Click on my link above this commet...I have made many Alan Watts Youtube videos "My Favorites" on my channel. So you can find some good stuff from him and Carl Jung also. Thanks for uploading this RayneMarina!!!

  • never heard this guy before. very interesting. i have to look up more about him.

  • Philokalia, Christian spirituality beat Mr Watts by 1600 years

  • wrong.

Watts quotes religions that pre date Christianity by thousands of years.

  • @randolphsonone Monotheism is the worst thing to happen in the world for the last three thousand years. It s a awful state of mind full of deceptions, illusions, false promises and exaggerated claims.

  • Damn, wish I coulda met this dude!

  • Alan Watts is a gnostic!

  • Mars Attacks at 2:49

  • @TheBanyanEmperor HAHAHAH its true lol!!!!

  • whoah listened to it again, i got it

  • So what is he saying, I love him to death but his points are really half-hazard at times. Is he saying selfishness is not being whole. Wanting TOO much?

  • Alan Watts has the one of the greatest speaking voices of all time.

  • ENLIGHTENING!

  • Cool video; thanks for the post. A rare example of a Watts video in which the music and imagery magnify the impact of Watts' words rather muddle it.

  • This music playing while he's talking is just really awful. Really really awful.

  • Brilliant. One of Alan's better moments.

  • *fap fap fap*

  • As usual... the Man inspires me. Thanks RayneMarina.

  • how do we give up the self?

if we give up the self in order to serve or give to others then does that really solve the problem because instead of serving your self you serve someone elses self,so can the self ever really be given up?

  • @carlwal01 you give it up by beliving it doesnt exist.

  • @carlwal01 No one will ever know friend

  • @carlwal01

There is no self and other, so there is no other 'self'. When you turn your attention away from your 'self' (notice who it is that is turning, please) to serve others, you open the door to unconditional love, that is, if you serve them with no expectation, no 'gaining idea'. In doing so, never mind your 'self' or the other 'self'. When serving, just serve. That is all. Nothing more; nothing less. Pure service and giving out of pure love. Therein lies the joy.

  • quite contrary to the habit that has developed in me, I didn't look at the comments section as I listened to the You Tube video. I didn't look down until almost the very end of this video. Alan Watts has continued to be almost always the most captivating of essayists , either in written or spoken formats . He has an on-going admiration, respect & gratitude from me. And I believe that all of what I refer to is not only from being entertained.I believe I have benefited tremendously from his gifts

  • @godhelpme2009

Though that may be, you still possess the very Anglican notion of superiority over others, even as you seek to descend to their inferior conceptual level. Don't worry, Watts does the same! Listen to C.S. Lewis explaining to us mere earthlings why Christianity is correct, you'll pick up on the same condescending tone. Huxley too. Perhaps I should include all British intellectuals lol.

  • @godhelpme2009 Dude, your right, this man has helped me smile more then almost anything. I love his laugh so much too, he does it without being too serious, which is key.

  • @godhelpme2009 i feel lost in my own body i dont know who i am, i question almost everything for example: why do i even comment on your comment - why am i on youtube - me being here right now- what is going on around me- . i cant escape it, its making everyday seem like a dream, everything i do is unreal i question my own existence. watching this makes me feel a little better but then i question alan and everything he says. : (

im i going to live my entire life like this? im 15 by the way....

  • @GoForBr0ke haha you sound like me at 15. im 18 now and ill let you know, its no easier than it was back then. but i understand it a little bit better than i used to. I too question everything, but the most important thing is to stop questioning. and to just let everything be. accept the moment as it is.

  • @GoForBr0ke "its making everyday seem like a dream". maybe life is a dream. i've experienced it as a dream. and in that moment my life faded from memory as though being woken from a dream. at some point i have chosen to be here. in some dimension a part of me has made this choice. so i choose to go with it. if you were conscious in a dream would you freak out? or play and explore? i still get moments of questioning. i let the thoughts come and go. i'm 31
